Klimt's brilliant and sensual paintings inspired me to make a film of his struggles.

Fascinating film footage from that era, but as a professional artist/former retired NYC fashion illustrator/floral designer and painter of impressionist/lyrical abstract expressionist paintings I beg to differ on "Gustav Klimt being the most famous artist of the 20th century"! We also have Henri Matisse, Picasso and even the late great Claude Monet lived until 1926 in the early 20th century! I would say Klimt was the most famous of the Art Nouveau/Secession movement of painters back then! He was the quintessential artist, had many lovers and fathered many illegitimate children as well and also a "Cat lover"! What made his work so unique was his ability to paint in an academic style as well as breaking all the rules and creating his own unique style which included painting with real gold leaf paint, and encrusting his paintings with real gem stones, why those paintings are so expensive as well. Thanks for sharing more aspects of his life here.

Although alot of this is in books, the footage is creative, well put together and interesting.
    Love that painted interior!
It is short, but sweet. I will watch the rest of the series.

A helpful note: at 6:51 "Franz Matsch" is Gustav Klimt (Herr Matsch is in dark suit, top left). Also, at 6:57 - the photo is from 1906 (Oskar Kokoschka is at the right!).
This is a good film. I know how hard it is to create a film with small resources. The modern footage of Wien/Vienna is very well done. Congratulations and good luck!

There was a long period of time that his works were not all that famous. I suspect this occurred after World War one; when art started shifting went from representational to abstract (I believe those are the proper adjectives).

The ashes of the canvases and frames at Schloss Immendorf were inspected by those who arrived later. The confiscated Klimt paintings of the Lederer collection were gone forever.

That was just Schiller's opinion. At that time maybe he hadn't seen anything better. May be.

The narrator's delivery is timid and dour. You need a more suitable commentary.
