Amazing lawn! I need to do some leveling myself, and am looking for a good screened soil and mix in some mason sand. Thanks in advance from your neighbor in South Austin.
Hey enjoying the video I had to watch a few I thought your area looked like central Texas and then I saw the weather channel and it told me one city to the south. We live in very similar neighborhoods and wow does yours look better than mine. Do you have a video or a tip on where to get started if it’s may and really haven’t done anything and just tried of having crunchy grass as my wife says. Keep up the work
Thanks brother! If you have a big weed problem, the first thing I would recommend is applying a herbicide to try and take out as many weeds as possible. After most of your weeds are gone, go ahead and scalp down as low as you can and bag it. After the scalp raise your mower a notch or two and maintain at that new height. You can follow along with my videos from March/April and do all those things in the lawn right now.
@@SanMarcosMakes Celsius is my broad spectrum week killer. I would suggest investing in a backpack sprayer and applying with a fine mist fan tip. Add in some surfactant so it will stick to the weed better. Let it soak in a couple days before your next mow.
Happy birthday to the big man! My big man named Anakin came May 10th. We just missed the mark by a few days. In any case the force is still strong with him. I got the bermuda going in the backyard where the St. Aug has been invading now the heat has picked up. The big fat stolons are easy to spot and pull out.
Thank you and congratulations. There’s nothing like it! That’s a great point with the thicker stolons! Just have to stay on top of it to keep the maintenance manageable.
Cool video man I'm definitely subscribed now and my oldest boy just turned 5 on May the 4th!!! So cool to see our kids in the lawn helping mine love to be out there!!
I put down Scotts turf builder yesterday and said I will cut at one inch high. Had winter grass so wk ago I had to cut bald so Bermuda can grow. Thanks
My bigger backpack sprayer broke today lol, got a small one now I gotta use it till it gets fixed. Gonna be doable just a headache....And yes, mow mow mow! Also got my Hydretain coming as well. Gteat video man!

@@LawnInsider Ill just have to use more granules till its fixed lol. I do like spraying though to get that instant pop of color and reaction of the grass in between my other feedings.
Just came across your channel (new subscriber here) and have to say your lawn looks amazing! Where abouts are you in Texas? We're in Arlington DFW area...and have bermuda grass and would die to have my lawn look like yours. Keep up the good work.
Beautiful yard! I think I might have put a little to much compost and sand on my low spots this time, but hopefully it grow through. How do you keep common Bermuda from creeping into your lawn??
Hey Rhett, Question 🙋🏼♂️! Do you ever have any yellowing throughout your lawn? I live in the Memphis area and we’ve had a lot of rain lately. Could it just maybe be too much water? Any ideas for remedies would be appreciated 👌🏼 just fed it yesterday with yard mastery flagship 26-0-6. Would a chelated (liquid) iron application help? Thanks-Drew P.S. Grubs?🤦🏼♂️ could it maybe be root damage from grubs
@@LawnInsider Toro Personal Pace 22” rotary, usually cut 3 times per week and always in two opposite directions at around an inch and a quarter. I did just sharpen my blade before this last mow. It’s really green from a distance or just looking out over the lawn but standing in it or while mowing the yellowing is more noticeable.
@@dcousar2352 did you start off the season with a scalp? My advice usually revolves around resetting things with a scalp. Your mowing schedule sounds great.
Man I put hydertain down about 3 days ago to help with seeding and wow. Iv gone from watering an hour and a half 3 times a day to watering once or twice a day for maybe 30 minutes. Crazy stuff.
You can continue to fertilize over the summer, you might just want to consider applying at a lower rate. As long as you don’t dump it all in one spot it won’t burn.
I think you'll be happy with either fertilizer. I've had good results with both. I will say the Scott's is the more affordable option in terms of price per pound of nitrogen.
I’ve never had any trouble with breaking my pre-emergent barrier by aerating, personally. It wouldn’t hurt to apply some afterwards though, just don’t exceed your annual max.
I found mine a few years ago on Facebook Marketplace from a gentleman in Georgetown. They’re getting a little tougher to find, and unfortunately like most things, the prices are going up.
Great lawn! What trees are those you have up front. I need to have a 9 year old tree in my front yard taken down because of too much shade causing thin/bare spots in my bermuda. Neighborhood rules calls for replacement. Will your trees stay that small and not cause a shade issue? Thanks man. Happy Bday to the little guy!
Can I apply granular fungus control (BioAdvance) and granular fertilizer at the same time? layered, 1 after the other then water in?? Thanks for the vid 👍 from Kyle, Texas!
There shouldn’t be any problems applying both and then watering, but I would always just advise to read the label of whatever you might be applying just to make sure it doesn’t say explicitly not to do something.
You won’t want to put down a pre-emergent if you’re seeding. It’ll stop germination of the the seeds. Also, Tenacity is better as a cool season herbicide. Celsius (post) and Prodiamine (pre) are the best weed killers for warm season turf in my opinion.
Question: How can you prevent mulch beds from having grass keep sprouting up? Is there any product to prevent that instead of keep pulling the grass. I keep edging around it but still have grass popping up on the actual mulch area. Thank you!
I think the thing that helps my beds the most is the difference in elevation between the beds and the grass. The sunken beds do a great job preventing the spread of the bermuda as long as I keep up with a little maintenance every couple of weeks.
I moved into a new community where the landscapers didn’t do a good job laying the sod. It’s very bumpy (4wheel drive bumpy)! I can not cut a lot of spot to a very low depth to get it down to 1/2 inch or so. Any suggestions? Want to level
My initial suggestion without seeing your lawn would be to level with mason sand. Our sod wasn’t laid with much care either, but after a few leveling projects it looks pretty nice.
I have a quick question. I have about 1.5 acres of Bermuda sod in Texas. It’s been going for about 3 years. The first year it did really well and never had many weeds. Now, the whole yard is covered in weeds and I cannot get rid of them. I’ve tried to weed and feed but nothing happens. I’ve always been told to mow it really high so it won’t kill it but I seen where you said mow it low. So do I need start cutting it lower? Will it kill it if I scalp it and try to restart?
No sir you can scalp bermuda at pretty much anytime throughout the growing season. Mow it at the lowest height of cut you can go, get rid of as many of the clippings as you possibly can, then maintain at whatever your next lowest notch is. You could go up a couple of notches if you wanted to. You might want to consider killing as many weeds as possible first though.
@@LawnInsider thank you! Gonna try that! I’ll try shortening it next cut and try to kill all the weeds possible. I started to get it green again but as soon as I cut it it’s going to be brown! Lol but that’s fine cause once it’s back healthy again it’ll look great and I’ll keep it cut low from now on!
Congratulations on the kiddo 👍🏻 Hopefully Terrible2s won’t effect y’all too much. It’s the MF’er 3’s you gotta look out for. Nap time is a great time to mow (except outside their window). Lawn lookin good my dude!👍🏻

That winter grass should start dying off pretty quickly with all this heat we’re having.
Lawn looks awesome. What variety bermuda?
Tifway 419 bermuda sod. Laid by the builder.
Can you use Play sand instead of Mason sand??
You can, but I would still use mason sand for a full leveling project. Play sand is fine for a smaller spot leveling.

I think you'll be happy with either fertilizer. I've had good results with both. I will say the Scott's is the more affordable option in terms of price per pound of nitrogen.
If you have a pre emergent down , should you not aerate before leveling? Should you apply more after aerating?
I’ve never had any trouble with breaking my pre-emergent barrier by aerating, personally. It wouldn’t hurt to apply some afterwards though, just don’t exceed your annual max.
Do Lawn companies do lawn leveling?
Most won’t. If you find one that does, they’ll probably charge an arm and a leg.
