Dice was the first comedian to sell out stadiums and places like Madison Square Garden. And you're right, he was a character. It was one big act where you're watching literally any neighbor from Brooklyn who just says whatever they want.
His performance at the Hugh Hefner roast is the stuff of legends. He both cringingly bombed on a level that would have ended the career of even the greatest to riff on the mic, to turn around and absolutely slay so beautifully that the entire place was unable to stop laughing through their tears of joy. They witnessed history that night.
This dude was a breath of fresh(?) air in a time of lousy comedians. You see the transition over the years to the crowd knowing every single word& revelling in it! Funny is funny, ALL there is to it! He started all this with working colleges all over the country & became an urban legend. Within 3 years he had an H.B.O. special.
Andrew Clay Silverstein performed comedy as Andrew Clay. Near the end of his shows, he would put on the leather jacket, light a cigarette and "transform" into the Dice Man. Dice was his alter ego. Eventually, he just became Andrew "Dice" Clay, because it was the most popular part of his act.
What you guys have reacted to is like 5 minutes of a 90 minute show. He covers a lot of different things, not just dirty nursery rhymes. He is playing a character, and we understood that back in the day. You guys are great (new subscriber here).
Great reaction!!! Psalm 138:7 Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you preserve my life. You stretch out your hand against the anger of my foes; with your right hand you save me.
I watched several of his comedy specials on HBO back in the day and always found him funny. He was undeniably vulger, but very funny regardless. That said if you want something of a similar vein look up Dr. Dirty ( John Volby ) and his musical comedy. His songs are hilarious and very memorable and you will NEVER listen to the original songs again like you used to.
He might not be George Carlin or Bill Hicks but he had his on style. Definitely a novelty but he was loved by fans, that's how comic's were back then. Dad jokes dor sure but classic non the less, The good old 80s.🇬🇧
You guys should react to Bo Burnham, start with "from the perspective of god" or "welcome to the internet". I guarantee you will be blown away. Completely unique and unexpected.
I am going to throw you two strange curve balls. Gallagher or Emo Philips. Both are very talented, weird, and different. Gallagher was typecast for his Sledge-O-Matic routine, but was educated and had intelligent comedy. Emo Philips has a very unique comedy style.
Ppl that say Dice isn't funny R Bananas. He WAS a novelty, but unlike a lot of novelty acts, Dice was GREAT & never gets old. He did joey diaz podcast a little while back... STILL legendary.
@@Reefizer for the main stream. But I believe enough of the comedy/entertainment industry actually credited him for more. I recently saw a decent interview between Dice and Howie Mandel. (Quick side note: Dice to my surprise credits the idea of rhymes to Mandel. ADC said something along the lines of, he got nervous on stage one night and actually stole a poem of Howie’s. Mandel confronted him afterwards, but said ADC always gave him credit for it.) But my point is 1) that Dice said, when he did Howie’s poem he realized that people loved anything that he said that rhymed. So, he came up with the Nursery Rhymes. 2) According to that interview, it seems Dice was given a lot of credit within the industry for the development of the character and was actually a serious actor before he created the character. *Did I actually write all that? 😅
He’s a legend and all, but watching a crowd yelling a comedians punchlines back at him is cringe. It’s like comics who tour the same jokes all the time. I think the “Dice”’ character/persona was pretty limiting in what he could do.
You can’t say in one breath he’s a “legend” then 💩 all over him. I think it’s quite obvious the people loved him. His one job was to make people happy. And he accomplished that.
He’s the outlier of all comedians. No one wants to hear the same joke twice, but these people have hear it 10 times, memorized it, tell it to their friends, and die laughing when Dice does it again. He’s a king. His jokes were so popular that they became a meme. He could tell the same joke from 83 til 88 and everyone laughed, it was actually funnier that you knew the punchline beforehand

Dice is the origin of cancel culture
Dice is a legend of the 80s and early 90s, he's not for everyone but I think he's straight hilarious.
I loved Andrew Dice Clay.
He was just crude and funny.
Yu guys should check out a movie called The Adventures of Ford Fairlane. Dice in the lead role. Epic.
Also: One Night at McCool's
Gilbert Gottfried Roasts George Takei

Y'all too FUCKIN COOL TO BE SMOOTH CRIMINALS

Need to see his movie Ford Fairlane
YOU GOTTA DO THE ( CARLIN ) SKIT ( NURSERY CRYMES ) 👍😊 RIP☹ GEORGE!
I want to echo the recommendation of Best of Greg Giraldo Comedy Central Roasts!!! He was an incredible comedian and a ruthless roaster.
You need to react to Dennis Leary!!! He gives 0 fux abt your feelings!! 😂
Oooohhhh! The dice man!
This is one of the first bits I ever memorized ... ... I was -maybe- 10!!
Dice stole the rhymes from Otto & George, who took it from 'Party Records' from 1952, He first did that at the Comedy Store...
Puss in Boots: the last wish reference before it's time.
Kinda crazy that a comedian could draw an arena crowd like that
George Carlin did a bit on nursery rhymes too . its on his album Toledo Window Box .
React to his movie the adventures of Ford Fairlaine rock and roll detective
You have to watch his movie that he was in, Ford Fairlane. Good movie.
One Night With Dice (which is the best version) should be Public Domain ...
Great reaction!!! Psalm 138:7
Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you preserve my life.
You stretch out your hand against the anger of my foes; with your right hand you save me.
You guys should watch Abbott and Costello 's Who's on First
Check out his movie Ford Fairlane
So sad how they destroyed him shortly after that last set. One of the first "cancel" victims
“Pomes”
you should react to "Dice Gottfried", Gilbert Gottfried does a mocking imitation of Dice.
you can like both of them and find it funny.

Saw him in 2019 at a metal festival...does not play as well with today's crowds lol

You owe it to yourself to check out Doctor Dirty John Valby.

Dave the bus driver is no holds bar very funny 👍👍👍
React to andrew dice gay. LOL
You want some really out there? Check out Gilbert Gottried, especially his dirtiest joke in the world.
Andrew Dice Clay he's funny at first couple of times he gets boring 😴 after that he says the same old jokes over and over again
He's funny......ONCE.
He's funny...period.
That's why he was the first comedian selling out 20,000 seat arenas and was a Rockstar because once right
People literally repeating his lyrics and dying laughing……
@@ReefizerI mean , he did have like 15 jokes total.
@G_Demolished It stands to reason.
If he only had "like" 15 jokes, he could have never sold out arenas.
Expand your horizons.
You'd be amazed.

Dice is one of those comedians that is good a little at a time. He is a one trick pony. I like his NY mannerisms the most.
Abbot and Costello: Who's on First? (?)
*Poems are funny but a little gimmicky.
Yeah, that's what made Dice a Rockstar at the time
