'I know now why I came to this earth. It's so you find your place.' This kills me everytime. Thinking about how she had a million dreams in her at the beginning and now she puts them into her son is just heartbreaking.
Anyone else notice the tune to The American Dream (the song that The Engineer sings literally before this in the show) playing right before Kim shoots herself? Terrifying...
Remember when she says " I'd give my life for you in another song " and she says it again here. THAT WAS SUCH A CRY MELTDOWN MOMENT BECAUSE IT DIDNT MEAN THE SAME !!!! DAMMIT KRISS Ellen will move on( hopefully )
They realized they didn’t want to give away the ending, i.e. Kim shooting herself so that Chris and Ellen would be left with no choice but to take Tam with them to America.
(In KIM's room she has dressed TAM in his best clothes. She lights candles at her family shrine, then picks up the photo of her parents.) [KIM] From this picture I keep You, my parents, look out And you smiles show no scorn I am happy today For I know what to do And my heart is not torn Spirits know when to fly When it's time There's no reson to mourn For the great sacred bird is reborn From the ashes he'll rise And upon his wide wings I'll watch you from above I will never be far But my son, it's your turn To know your father's love I know now why I came To this earth It's so you find your place But for that I must leave your embrace You will be with Your father now Give all your love to him When I am gone Take one last look at me Don't forget what you see For now you must move on You will be who you want to be - you Can choose whatever heaven grants As long as you can have your chance I swear I'll give my life for you No one will stop what I mjst do My son, I'll give my life for you (She kisses TAM, prays before the shrine, hears people approching, blows out the candles. She checks to see that it is CHRIS comming. She gives TAM a toy, and disappears behond the bed curtain)
I fantasize Chris wrestling her down. Him taking the gun away. Putting her in a state of rescue, then Ellen and Chris have no more feelings on eachother. Then Chris falling back in love with Kim. Both growing old together, spending the rest of their lives together.
Oh we all wish for that. Like Chris saves Kim, then Ellen gets mad because she thinks Chris loves Kim instead of her. She leaves back to America, and for some weird reason ends up married to John (?) The Engineer...well he gets whatever he wanted, I guess... And Thuy is turning in his grave lol
I wish I could have seen this live D: Anyone know where I can buy the music? None of it on itunes is the original london cast and it doesn't have Lea Salonga or all the songs, and Lea is one of my role models. Please!!! :) Thank you
I remember buying this when I was a teenager and listening to the whole cd. I cried at this point then and still do today. I never got to see the original production (so gutted) but did get to see it a few years ago. Not the same impact. They replaced this ending with another one and it just doesn't have the same impact. I am still glad I got to see the production but left a little bit disappointed at the ending.

I'm glad that someone has posted the entire album. Most of the other playlists are missing songs.

Just like from a horror movie 8-o
The emotions coming from lea made me weep
This is musical genius at its finest!

Because it shifts into LITERALLY giving her life for her aaaahhhh!!!
goosebumps too.
Wish they had retain this song in later productions. It really portrays Kim's sadness more realistic.

:.....( Oh My God I cried!!!! I felt s bad for Kim! She really didn't deserve to have her life end like this! She's a good, kind person!!!!

From this picture I keep
You, my parents, look out
And you smiles show no scorn
I am happy today
For I know what to do
And my heart is not torn
Spirits know when to fly
When it's time
There's no reson to mourn
For the great sacred bird is reborn
From the ashes he'll rise
And upon his wide wings
I'll watch you from above
I will never be far
But my son, it's your turn
To know your father's love
I know now why I came
To this earth
It's so you find your place
But for that I must leave your embrace
You will be with
Your father now
Give all your love to him
When I am gone
Take one last look at me
Don't forget what you see
For now you must move on
You will be who you want to be - you
Can choose whatever heaven grants
As long as you can have your chance
I swear I'll give my life for you
No one will stop what I mjst do
My son, I'll give my life for you
(She kisses TAM, prays before the shrine,
hears people approching, blows out the candles.
She checks to see that it is CHRIS comming.
She gives TAM a toy, and disappears behond the bed curtain)
This was literally my music assignment
I believe, this is the first and the most powerful ending. The next 2 or three endings were less moving
Totally agree.
im listening to this at work and IM CRYING WHILE I FIX MY TEAM's ATTENDANCE :(

Anyone got any tips how to listen to this and not cry.
Saw this edinburgh, never forget ur tissues, you could hear people balling.
I love the song that replaced this, but this is absolutely beautiful. I wonder why they removed it.

That song made me cry.
And how did the ending of the song become The American Dream?
political commentary I almost would say...
