Some of the scientific and industrial c-mount lenses can be searched and sorted pretty easily on Edmund's for sensors up to 1.1"... I'm looking to see which ones will run all the way to APS-C though, having a bit more trouble finding which ones have a shot at that aside from a handful of pricey machine vision lenses.

Is there not a way to make a adapter with a "focal expander" for these lenses, similar to how focal reducers scale full frame down to apsc style sensors, but just changing the projection to match a apsc sensor?

I watched this recently and then not that long after I lucked out on a pentax 8-48mm 1.0 I'm excited for it to come in! Should be any day now. I believe it's a 1/2 C mount, I found a 16mm 1/2 C - Fuji X mirrorless mount on ebay. Would that work? If you could find out for me that'd be cool. I'd hate to order it and have it not fit. There's not many videos about it. Just been kinda digging through old forums for info so far. I guess there's a more common rainbow Tv 8-48mm 1.0, and the rarest canon model, those are identical apparently. It says 1.0 W or 1.2 T which is pretty cool on the pentax. I've seen some simply marked 1.2 but look near identical.
I had sold my kipon ibelux mark II 40mm 0.85 portrait lens for fuji x and it was so bulky and not good for handheld use. Definitely a lens you mount on a tripod or use in a studio indoor setting. Weirdly enough this is kind of close spec wise. 1.2 at 48mm and 1.0 at the 8mm setting is pretty nice with fuji crop factor, the film simulations and x-trans sensor. The crop factor would be even better on m4/3 but I'm stubborn to get a different camera system too. Pentax Q seems like the best fit since it's a pentax lens and would be a cool kit 🤷‍♂️

Firstly, the Camera MFRs cabal decided to define 1-inch sensors NOT as 25.4 mm ... but 15.86 -- and throw the term "class" in occasionally to avoid lawsuits?? There's an ONEROUS (BS) excuse why it's DEFINED as 15.86 mm, but more important is proving it to those for whom which it's news.
Your GH4 has an M4/3 sensor; let's evaluate the term _Four-Thirds._
M4/3rds...of _what_ exactly..? Why, an INCH of course!
Let's just check Camera MFR's math real quick at 15.8mm to verify, as I claimed above:
    15.8mm / 3 = 5.3mm ... and
    ..5.3mm x 4 = 21.2 mm.
Remarkably similar to the 21.6mm of your M4/3 sensor's diagonal, no?
And, though I LIKE Micro-4/3rds cameras & sensors, [SENSOR SIZE] DOES NOT matter.*
Only the sensor's diagonal vs it's MAXIMUM resolution matters:
It's actually PIXEL SIZE, not SENSOR SIZE ... that determines _image quality._
(And, larger sensors are usually cut in more MP, keeping pixel size down!)
    Your 21.6 mm, 16MP (4608 x 3456) has 3.70μm pixels.
    but my 8.58 mm, 2.38MP (1945 x 1225) has 3.75μm pixels! :-)
And we're talking about 1080P here ... so, nothing else really matters. ;-)
Why yes, your M4/3 humps my 1/1.9" sensor's leg ... as my D800's 43mm sensor humps your GH4's leg ... and so the humping continues.
BUT, I've yet to find a technical document explaining the effect of REDUCING a cameras's NATIVE resolution has on its 'relative pixel size'.
Do they 'coalesce' to provide 22.75 μm pixels (FX) or 18 μm (on M4/3) ..?? Not a chance. They are what they are. Pixels are a physical property which cannot be altered ... You can no more UN SLICE A PIZZA than combine resolution in to pixels! And -- it's the size of pixels which determine their light sensitivity (within that generation's technology -- as is generally detailed by the amount of gain or increased "ISO" -- in all that term's throwback-glory -- to be increased without causing the image to become replete with red and blue artifacting.
I'd FAR prefer a large-pixeled, LOW resolution sensor for video ... as it's also cheaper to compress H.264 in to HEVC (to avoid ungodly-large files) which look good. Which itself, brings up yet another principle that regulates quality (at least of the recorded output, assuming the display receives RAW HDMI) ... The BITRATE! And which CODEC the camera's processor has.
Last I checked, the cheapest UHD camera which provided HEVC (H265, etc) were a small fortune...as it requires a dedicated (and powerful) CPU, as well as a means of cooling it.
    AUTOFOCUS:
I didn't realize until last week that _industrial cameras_ often have (ARM) CPUs & some miniature Linux OS running. Which of course, plays a rather crucial role. One examplar of the CPU's job is that _industrial camera's AF_ is ENTIRELY DIFFERENT than in D SLR's which perform AF in the LENS. Unbeknownst to me, industrial (pupose-built) cameras perform AF by moving _the *SENSOR ITSELF* to localize the focal plane.
Even IF a conventional D SLR lense resolved an image that didn't extend beyond the field of view,, D SLRs have no reason to provide options like ROI (Region of Interest), in which you specify the region to keep in focus -- which avoids the AF becoming "confused" by a tool or hand passing within the frame.
I don't for a second think the camera I purchased is generally better than the GH4 ...
    Photography? Fail.
    Videography? Fail.
    Good lens choices? Fail.
    Max resolution? Fail.
    Sensor size? Fail.
But in this exact use case..? I expect it'll perform if not better ..? It'll provide me a minimum of double the value ... but also, will likely do the job better.
(And I cannot WAIT to get rid of my D800 and get the mirrorless Nikon Z7 ... if only the lenses weren't even more expensive than the camera!
