Those entry level routes are basically like climbing a ladder.
LOL, at least 3 people I regularly climb with are easily fitter and are in their seventies.
Don't forget Dave's been through heart bypass surgery.

People have no idea how insane AH is. After watching Free Solo I watched a ton of climbing/alpinist docs and they all pretty much end with the protagonist dying. That sport is brutal. What he did is nothing short of astonishing. Also, if you get the chance watch Tommy Caldwell's doc, it will blow your mind.
He's also incredibly humble, and one of the nicest people I've ever met; and his mom is pretty damn awesome as well.
Those dudes in the 80s-90s were insane. Alex shook my hand once, nearly crushed it
Then you'll notice the music they used while David is climbing is from the end of Free Solo when Alex is topping out El Cap.
He is absolutely an anomaly tbh. When it comes to free soloing 'professionally' no one comes close, I dont think most of the routes he did a decade ago have still been solo repeated yet. Usually gym climbers and free solo climbers are completely different groups with very different ethos, so even if gym climbers are technically way stronger, we dont see them soloing, but somehow this guy did 10 years of gym climbing and started soloing big walls because he didnt want to ask someone to belay him lmao. Still cant get over the fact that he solo'd 2000 feet and then did a v7 on el capitan
Great getting Alex on the show I love that guy. The Free Solo climb is the single most impressive feat any man has ever achieved it was unbelievable....

Props to Dave. Even though that's probably like a 5.6 route, still impressive! Two legends having a chat.
You think so? I would've guessed less than 5.6... Most people can't climb 5.6 on their first day, let alone 77-year-olds.
@@dsspiegel hard to tell as we only see a few holds on the route. Mostly solid jugs for hands, foot holds seem smaller than most beginner climbs, and it looks like there is some minor movement required and not just a straight ladder climb. It could definitely be an easier grade. Point of it is I'm still super impressed with Dave for making it to the top on his first climb at his age. He's awesome!
Never in my lifetime did I think I'd see Dave flash a top-roped climbing route. 😊

I wish Dave would do a Netflix comedy special. Jay Leno does standup. I would love to see Dave. He's always been my favorite comedian since I saw his HBO special in the early 80s where he did a tour of Hollywood.
So crazy to see how long he’s been doing this! Climbers have long fascinated Dave. This is reminiscent - but way more PC - of his interview with Lynn hill fro the 80s!
