I just picked up a 1974 FG360from Japan... has replaced bone nut.. beautiful closet queen, with the original case for $350... sound very close to my neighbors martin... and I can't put it down...
Yes indeed I feel Yamaha acoustic's are Really Something quite phenomenal, I have owned many over and at the moment I have 4, an FGX- 830, FG-TA, and a '75 black Label FG- 180 , and an FSX 800, and all are stunning, but the FG 180 though it's a laminate/ top, if you didn't know that, from it's sound ( nice bass, just medium not heavy) you would think it was a solid/ top, it certainly says alot about the Yamaha Company...😮😅😊
@@susanroycroft89 For sure. I have a FG331 and it’s all laminate (although Yamaha used Spruce plywood laminate which is much different than normal laminate) which was their key to great sound.
Yes the plastic has a nice soft, smooth ring to it but the bone definitely has a sharper, harder tone....wakes it up a bit! ..good idea to try it out and keep the old saddle and nut if ypu ever want to change it back! Thanks for the comment , happy playing!
Of all yamaha guitars i recently have, so far this is the best sounding yamaha guitar for me ,its underrated, previously i own a 1969 fg-180, it more warmer, but this fg-140 is the sweetest one! If you have a 1 yamaha guitar to keep? this is it👍 previously i own a lot of yamaha guitar, fg-730, fg-301b,fg-201b, fg-300D, and now have a mint fg-140 almost new, almost no fret ware marks All in its original parts.
Great guitar - quite different to a Martin as you say. Mine has just had a neck set - fret's are pretty low but still love it - Gauge string's you prefer ? Nice video
Great......i like to use very light strings on these....with low action... .47 .40 .30 .24 .15 .11 Bottom end is extra light, top end is custom light This setup gives you alot of overtones and great volume!
@@cmatthewwilliams6182 very interesting - I have owned many vintage Martin’s plus GE , Authentic etc. This FG140 was super cheap but just as beautiful to play. Neck not clubby, not skinny. Scale nice too. Bottom end is similar to a scalloped Martin but not boomy. Excited to experiment with string gauge now - I play D modal quite a lot so don’t want to go too light.
Lighter strings will bring something new to your playing.... Too much tension on a top and you lose all the subtlety...... there's a bias towards heavy strings... But light strings can do things heavy strings cant.... You need more finese and sensitivity with lighter strings..... That makes you more receptive..... That's been my personal experience..... But it's also just my opinion..... Thanks for the comments..... All the best
@@cmatthewwilliams6182 Didn't know about the others. Godin has been using epoxy for quite a few years now. Previously they did bolt on necks for their acoustics claiming they get fewer returns. Bolt on is simpler and very strong so I don't know why they would have fewer returns.
I play 1968 FG 140 red label. I like everything about it

Sounds very nice, thanks for the video 😊😊😊
Thank you too!
Sounds awesome...I too have lots of Yamaha's - oldest I have is a '76 180-1 Black Label (Taiwain).
Hey thanks! They are nice....3 piece back?

Thats great, yes many say the 140 is their favorite even over the 180....the inline tuners transmit the sound well!
I just got one for 50& fig 140 in great shape
How about this sir is this a laminate ?

Thanks, i record with my A53 Samsung phone....easy to use!
The Yamaha FG140 was made between 1968 and 1972. It sold for $95 brand new !!!

Good deal!
if your serial number is 160000 or higher, it was made in Taiwan! Production moved from nippon gakki in May 1971...
Were you alive in 1970 when this guitar was built?
Born August 5 of 1970....
Contemporaries!
180 laminate and 140 solid.
@@honestnewsnet the 140 is not solid, only the higher series 400 and above have solid tops!
Old Yamaha guitars had necks glued with epoxy. They are almost impossible to remove and reset.
