Jak II: Mammoth Animations - It Can Die!

- As we all know, the mammoth enemy can not die in the final version of the game. But unused death animations may indicate that this wasn't always the case during development.

I actually seen this animation a few years ago while messing around with the game. But now in OpenGOAL we can properly see all animations, so I decided now it was worth a video.
Wow, I for one am happy to know it HAS the animation to do so!
It would be crazy to see a mod of these things in the city once the invasion starts. Also does this area take place in misty island hmmm?
There is actually some unused code (and even assets) hinting that the roboguard would have appeared in the city. I want to investigate that, and meanwhile I may find ways to make other enemies appear in the city. With OpenGOAL, many of the limitations are removed (or can be removed).
The world of TPL does not line up with the world of the later games.

Kinda dumb that they never died. Jak and even Daxter has killed much bigger
I actually like the final game, forces you to wait instead of spamming attacks if you have full ammo.
maybe in early development it did well hes kinda lucky that no matter how many times you hurt it it cant die even with strongest attacks lets just say it was something that was cut from the game for unknown reasons
Like battle for bikini bottom, it seems like we're learning more about the game YEARS after the fact.
Also I dunno why, but seeing a death animation for the mammoth minding it's business made me weep

Indeed it is very nice that Naughty Dog left this animation in. Can be very useful.
My biggest hope is that one day we can mod in MORE metalheads into the city with OpenGoal. At least a small handful, if nothing else. I'm sure they would have done it had it not been for hardware limitations. In fact, there must be SOME leftover code that makes KG guards aggro onto certain other metalheads.
Animation looks exactly like the 2 legged dinosaurs in the desert in Jak 3
It looks similar but there is no way to check properly for now.

How far along is jak2 open goal because from what I'm seeing its basically fully functional
It can be completed from start to finish but there are still some minor things missing, audio can get bugged sometimes, and I do get crashes sometimes. I guess it is close to be ready to go into the launcher, but only the developers will know when it is ready.
@@LuminarLight bigmap (the one in the pause menu) and the billboards throughout the city don't render yet as well

Whaaat and how the heck can we kill this?
There is no known way to kill them, but at least they have a death animation. So possibly at some point they were killable.

I don't know why I remembered the Klombo from Fortnite, basically neither of them can die
I wonder if it would be possible to mod Jak 2 Jack & Jak one
But has anyone actually trying shooting it for 24 hours
A while ago I did try a lot of dark bombs as dark giant, and it did not die. I didn't actually check in the code if it can even die. It probably can't.
@@LuminarLight I wonder if there was supposed to be some type of equipment in the level to take it out but was scraped
It probably is something where a device or game mechanic was used to kill them but got scraped. You don't give something like that a shit ton of health & a kill animation for nothing.
