Back in the 70s when my daughter was little, I'd sing the chorus "my pearl, my precious little pearl". I still do. She is my precious little girl, always.
picked this album up for 99 cents used at the record store in the early 80's because I liked the cover . had no idea who the players were , what a find still one of my favorites to this day .
If Jimi and the Temptations burned one backstage and then went out and played, this is what it would sound like. This album is in my top 25 of all time.
@@geocs5895 Yup! Montrose was the headliner. Will always remember Ronnie Montrose dancing around the stage jamming on guitar and how delightfully aromatic the air was inside Winterland!
Hey I saw them in London at the Marky in June 76 I was so great. Jerome Rimson on base and then Tony Harvey on base at the end they blew they were frigging loud too. What a great band
lol , yeah same here it was early 80's in Detroit . saw the album in the dollar bin didn't even know who it was just liked the cover art . loved the album and later a friend of mine told who the people were on the album.
Thanks for the full version. One of the best albums of the 70's. Got to watch them rehearse and jammed with Pat and the bass player. Very underrated band. Bayete was great.
Wow! Great tune!! And yes, although we "in the know" folks remember it from Spring/Summer of '76, it didn't crack the Hot100™ until Feb 12, 1977, debuting at #99!! IT ONLY WENT TO #97 THE NEXT WEEK (Feb 19, 1977), THEN IT DROPPED OFF OF THE CHART! But that's why I LOVE UA-cam because it proves you're not crazy when it comes to obscure tunes like this!
Yessssssss that's definitely me😀😙😍🤗 guess i have many songs about my name. There's another version of Stevie Wonder also it's about Pearl. Thank you for uploading the song just made my day. 🤗😗😍😘
What! a song. This one will always stand out in Time for me. Thanks for the upload.Mike Shrieve was in the studio at that time with Steve winwood in England. is that him on piano?
This was the first album. The only one that is listed anywhere and the only one I can find. It's obviously Thrall since he is unmistakable. However, they had another album. Their second one. Titled 'Animation Generation'. Same line up except for Carlos Rios on guitar. I had a cassette 40 years ago from a friend's album, but it is long gone. Wish I could find that one. I guess it didn't sell so it went out of print?
Their 2nd album actually was “Visitors” w/a pink alien head similar to this-I know cuz I still have the orig. vinyl, bought it as soon as I saw it after its release…Now, I want some of what U had when writing this comment of your-LOL!!
Bayete! Now that's a name I recall........the late BBC Radio 1 DJ John Peel played the amazing "Inter stellar tracking devices" which is what made me buy the LP. It was an import I think.
His real name is Todd Cochran, a classically trained keyboardist from Chicago-he’s done-actually-mostly Jazz music too-BUT yeah, what a voice w/these guys-PHENOMENAL!!! ❤️❤️❤️Love ‘em all-esp. Michael Shrieve, the drummer-former original Santana band drummer, who did the infamous drum solo at Woodstock!! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Todd_Cochran
Harvey & Al-Di played on Stomu Yamash'ta's "Go Live In Paris" (1976). Oh, wait, no, faulty memory! It was Jerome Rimson (from AM's second LP) playing bass on that album. So, it's like, almost. One degree of separation. FWIW.
Back in the 70s when my daughter was little, I'd sing the chorus "my pearl, my precious little pearl". I still do. She is my precious little girl, always.
Still sounds fresh & contemporary in 2024!!! Way Ahead of their time. Rockers who can play & sing!!! Timeless❤

First time I've heard this and I'm in my seventies! Found it from Boom Rock radio
I don't know why they never caught on....only heard them on the 'progressive' stations here in Boston back in 76
Thanks so much for posting!
WZLX & WAAF right? Charles Laquirdiro (spelled incorrectly I'm sure) used to play it.
WBCN FM and WNTN AM. I think that's where I heard them, too. Great music.

We still have the record, but I bought 3 copies of the CD just so we'd never be without them !
Hendrix played with The Isley Brothers
Exactly - genius song. Brings me back to first love, teenaged innocence. The 70's were the greatest era for music
So spot on
This song always reminds me of seeing Automatic Man Live at Winterland, San Francisco 1976.
Great memories
With Montrose, right? I was there too.

So badass man!Thanx for posting this! Flashing me back to sleepless nights of recklessness while watching the 70s quietly vanish.

Wow, I haven't heard this since 1976. It was the "power play" on my local radio station and I bought the single. Still sounds great.

ha ha still got the original-used to play it at the restaurant good times
every thing on this album is excelent!
My younger son said that Michael Shrieve took a big risk leaving Santana to start Automatic Man. I wish they'd had more success.
I've not heard this song since I lost the cassette of the album in ... so long ago, I can't even remember. Great band!
I'm interviewing a guy today by the last name of Pearl. Every time I look at his resume, this song pops into my head. Love it.
lol that is funny
yes I have this album and I love it
one hell of a song.
This tune alone is proof that they should have been bigger. It's okay, its made it into my RocknRollgirl Hall of Fame ; )
