Your approach to tuning is absolutely what I would do. Longevity is far more important than ultimate performance unless you are racing professionally. Awesome my friend.
Awesome Andrew 👍 I think you made the right decision going to the Pro’s. Just love the old girl and how you built her. Also really digging the rear wall with the channel logo 👊🏼
307 is nothing to be ashamed of, because it is a nice clean 307 that sounds great. Your build is nice and tidy all around. From the performance, the sound, and the looks. I shall dub the Mr. Clean.
I've followed this entire build, Andrew. Congratulations on creating a GT40 replica true to the spirit of the original small block cars. A push-rod Ford, four deuces, and a bundle of snakes are necessary choices to achieve that as far as I'm concerned. Your build choices and skill are inspired. You've also kept in mind these were endurance racers, where reliability counted. 302 in.³ at 1 hp/in.³ should be plenty for such a light (can you give us a weight?) street car while remaining reliable. If/when you want more, a cam and retune will do the trick. I've also enjoyed your presentation skills. I hope we'll see more, if you can endure another project! Cobra? Grand Sport? Light aircraft? A big block GT40? Thank you for hours of interesting content, Andrew.
Really appreciate the comment Brad, thank you. My journey and evolution of the car is definitely not over yet! I'm already formulating a plan for the next build which will be a rep of a 300sl gullwing :-)
Congratulations Andrew. That sounds and looks superb as you say and that BHP is virtually identical to that which the original JWA “road car” spec 40’s left Slough with back in the 60’s and ample power to weight ratio IMO I’ve got some work booked in tor some cooling fans for my oil cooler, new sump and a rolling road setup myself in late March, so hope I can start mine as easily as yours 🤞. It’s been up on its lift with the wheels off since late Sept last year and not attempted starting it since then.
Thanks Doc! I hope so catch you somewhere over the summer perhaps! Are you able to attend the Kitcar show at its new location of the Malvern Showground?
@@RatchetRebuilds Malvern is a bit far from me up on the North Norfolk coast. Only U.K. shows I plan to do are Sandringham Pageant which is literally round the corner and Petrolheadonism as I had such a great time there last year. Will also be at a few circuits inc Le Mans for the Centenary. We will bump into each other eventually I’m sure 👍
That output will be great…for a while! Drivability is definitely paramount BUT, once you get some miles on the clock and you get comfortable driving it, I guarantee you’ll want more. Not a lot more but, well, more. You’re definitely feel the difference with adding the Webers and a professional tune. Should be day and night over that old, fat 4bbl. Should be a tad more snappy. Regardless, nobody deserves a clean, open road more than you. An absolutely gorgeous build. Now, about Track Days…😊
@@RatchetRebuilds what cam? For sound alone it is hard to beat the old Motorsports F303 or better yet, the B303 roller cams. I know there are more modern options but dang it they sound great.
Hi man, loved your videos. Just wondering if I can apply as your personal editor. I would love to enhance your videos including thumbnails and any other elements that might be a great asset for your channel to grow exponentially. Pls let me know what you think!
jesus christ, a guy could really gear up taller in a GT40 if it had the torque of a decently built 390 and pull well past 200mph without breaking a sweat.
@@johngibson3837because that means Cleveland heads (probably from Australia) so different exhaust, different intake, some small machine work, pointless without a cam change too ... then theres all the Cleveland valve train and all to sit on a stock thin wall cast factory 302 block??

let me get this straight. You are fastening aluminium sheets on a square tube steel chassis???? WTF. you are creating sacrificial corrostion on your steel frame which is the critical structure of the built. I hope you used aluminum tubing instead.EVEN with alu tubes the faying surfaces are moisture traps. Your little caulking is doing nothing. You are a very talented guy and I respect that. Thanks William!!
The carbs look fantastic and the induction sound is really sweet. This is a major upgrade IMHO.
I don’t know if I had a chance to comment on the Dyno testing but fantastic look and sound👍👍👍👍
Came across this vid searching for an intake, couldn't resist the thumbnail. Car sounds fantastic!
Pure click bait! haha
Congratulations! This glorious green machine you've crafted is amazing on so many levels. Every meticulous detail, nothing overlooked. Fantastic.
Thank you very much!
Andrew, car looks and sounds fantastic. We'll done!! Have many exciting drives and adventures in her. Safe travels.
Thanks 👍
congratulations! what an amazing feeling. The immediate startup and no leaks is such a cherry on top.
Some might have skill, I think it was more by luck! haha
I always find rolling road runs scary as hell! Well done on the small jobs and the car sounds and looks awesome.
Almost as nerve-racking as an MOT! haha
Not too shabby at all! It sounds glorious and should be a blast to drive. Can't wait to hear your impressions.
I've a close eye on the weather forecast that's for sure!
It has been a joy watching you refine and perfect what is the most beautiful sports car ever made! Congratulations.
Thanks! 👍
Great to see the new carburettor set up Andrew, it really is the icing on the cake. 100% worth it. Looking forward to your drive.
Thanks Stephen, I can't wait to get out in it!
Sounds very healthy, looks like it will be a lot of fun to drive.

🏁Nice car... Tastefully well done. Happy for you.
Thank you! 👍
Nice looking car mate, I like how you're keeping the engine close to OG, not chasing a 1000hp, the car doesn't need it!
True that!
Fabulous Andy! That's plenty power and will not overstress the gearbox, sounds sweet!!
Thanks mate, I'm sure it's got enough to keep me entertained!
Well done Andrew - outstanding as always.
Thank you! Cheers!

300 bhp is absolutely plenty. it sounds truly unbelievable. so pleased for you bud
Thanks bud, felt like a real achievement!
Looks like some solid ventilation in there. Hopefully ya got a door open somewhere. Awesome job by the way.
Thanks 👍
The sound of the car on the dyno couldn't have been better.
300rwhp is healthy for a 302 man👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 And honestly that’s heaps in a 40! Very cool!

Congratulations Andrew, any data on torque and RPM
No mate, I didn't come away with the dyno printouts, printer issues unfortunately at the dyno place
It sings beautifuly. I wonder how tough is it to drive - does it fight the driver a lot?
It's actually very compliant to drive by no way relaxing but on a gentle cruise it's very enjoyable :-)
Super cool!!!! That puppy needs a big fat cam now hahha. What rpm did the power peak at?
Not sure re: the peek power, I'm waiting on the dyno print outs as I didn't get chance to go away with them
Beautiful car. Buy a vacuum coolant fill tool. You will never regret it.
When you look at the state of the roads and the traffic situation nowadays, driveability wins hands down over absolute power ...
Is that engine built to the old K code spec or Shelby 306hp engine?
Neither to be honest, its a very basic engine spec built from a bare block, pair of ali heads and not much else

They're Edelbrock aluminum heads

Don't know but would spray foam in the doors work better and help if you had a hard impact wreck
The compression these engines had would make your guts quiver and boots vibrate
Thought this was a 427 my bad you must have built this for your wife
When you can get 2,000 hp from a Honda 2.0 liter engine it shows you how antiquated this technology is.
Haha, very true!
True, but this is wheel power, so probably cliser to 450 at the engine, and it could do this all day, unlike the honda.
