- A teammate of the transgender swimmer smashing records at the University of Pennsylvania called her school leaders “weak” and said they were afraid of cancel culture while telling NewsNation Lia Thomas shouldn’t be allowed to swim for the women’s team.
“I do not think that Lia should be competing in (NCAA championships) because there is now one less spot for a cisgender female who is of NCAA championship caliber who will not get to compete,” the swimmer said on the condition of anonymity because she feared backlash. “Whatever heat she's in, whatever event she's in, there is no longer a fair and equitable playing field,” she added.
Thomas, the NCAA and Penn did not respond to our request for comment.

Also, a class action lawsuit agains the schools and the swimming organization is appropriate as these schools are violating Title9 laws and also sexual harassment and other laws with respect to having a man in the women's locker room.

Holy **** you pay thousands of dollars to get your daughter through college, they have one opportunity to swim at this level, and this happens, THEN all the parents get together and send a letter of grievance to the school "leadership" (I use that term extremely loosely) and they have the audacity to send a letter back referring them to "counseling and psychological services"?! The utter incompetence blows my mind.....who in their right mind would ever give money to these people, let alone trust them to educate your children.
These schools are gas lighting the heck out of the female swimmers/students and their parents. Its so so hard to sit by and witness. I have a daughter who will be playing college sports in the very near future and I have so many fears for her. This is a whole new unnecessary level of psychological nonesense for our young adults to navigate. The adults in charge need to step up and start taking this serious for all involved instead of worrying about being canceled or their pocket books.

More to say: I'm a gold star lesbian. Became a P.E. teacher and coach (14 years total) starting just as title IX passed. Worked hard coaching 24 varisty seasons in 14 years. Wanted to make possibilities for girls that I did not have when growing up. Now this dude comes along, proclaims he is a woman (despite the well stated physiological differences) and says, let me play. Mr. Thomas has no shame! I'm trying very hard not to let this color my feelings for the whole transgender movement. Hopefully other transgender women and other LGBT folks will speak out. Just because you fit into the LGBT "group" doesn't mean you have to accept this. This is a disgrace and I am deeply offended.

Agree - I feel conflicted about my stance but at the end of the day these are women who have worked their tails off for their entire lives - IDK - am I biased because I am woman, do I hate to acknowledge the physiological differences- of course. But I also want hardworking young ladies to be given a fair opportunity to do their best and have a chance at #1. This is the type of thing that can negatively impact drive and motivation- why try so hard if you don’t have an even playing field? IDK - it’s complicated.
Most people who support this come up with rediculous arguments like, "Oh, are you a biologist?" As though you have to be a biologist to know what a woman is. But my favorite is, "If Lia had just a larger arm span or bigger lungs as a biological woman, you wouldn't have a problem with this."
There are rules to sports meant to dictate when something crosses from a valid strategy to cheating. I use card counting in Vegas as an example. You are allowed to card count in blackjack. And those who can pull off card counting, are considered to have an advantage. That is all true. But it is still considered a legitament strategy because it takes considerable skill to pull off and it would be a lot trouble for the Los Vegas gaming commission to attempt to enforce such a rule. However, if I took out an app and started using that to track cards, then I'm cheating. First off, that requires no skill to do. Secondly, it can be proven. And third, it's even far superior to traditional card counting which requires a hell of a good memory.
Sports are full of these kinds of rules, from weight classes to boxing, to advising baseball teams they can't use technology to "spy" on other team's hand signs. But they all have the same intent: to create hard rules to what is considered fair.
When it comes to physical advantages, you could go crazy with that. You could make a division where you can't play unless you're under a certain height. You could make a division where if your lung capacity was a certain amount. You could make a division if your feet are a certain length, and so on and so forth. We could spend forever figuring that out.
OR you could just separate men and women, and that by default eliminates all sorts of physical differences in one swoop.

So a college guy on men's swim team just wakes up one morning with the epiphany that they've been identifying them selves incorrectly...for years, oh and also decides to compete in women's division swimming?!?! This creates MORE animosity towards real transgender women and the issues they face.

Why try so hard if you know you'll never set a record ever again, never have a chance at being the best because you're competing with biological males? All four of my daughters were in gymnastics, one at a provincial level. The idea that they would have had to compete with people who went through puberty as males is disgusting. Others have suggested we change from men's and women's competition to all-comers and ladies born female. A simple rule change that doesn't violate anyone's right to compete. Of course they won't win, but that's the biological truth of it all.

Johnny Knoxville though before he did the movie sat down with special Olympics participants and made sure a good number of special needs actors were hired for the movie.
And his character went from an asshole to a decent person and came out to his “competition” and they encouraged him to continue competing. There was a lot of input from members of the special needs community in the movie.

even in Paralympics athletes are given points based on level of disability so its recognized they have different abilities and its made so they can compete fairly and against others of their same level of ability. if swimming worked like this for trans athletes they'd be competing against others of similar physiology as in other trans athletes or theyd have to give the women a handicap like not having to swim as far as the trans person. this is not even trying to be fair, its completely ridiculous.
Just think about this for a minute:
Every time a male pro athlete gets to the point where he's fed-up coming in 50th in his sport every time he competes, he just declares himself to be a woman and "starts the transitioning process". So, magically he writes his own first place ticket to trophies and money. The same applies to the NCAA environment where "money" is replaced by "scholarship money". In both cases women are being kicked to the sideline so that men can take their spots. This is sick and insane and is literally being pushed by a small minority who have access to the woke culture media machine to project their case.
If there's a genuine need for trans athletes to compete, have them compete in a third class of athlete so there's men, women and trans. Seems fair to me.
@Musicbox Entertainment You have to transition first. During his initial transition he had to swim against men. Then he took a year off to remain eligible to swim. He'd completed all the required hormone therapy so legally he is a woman. That is the problem. As long as he is considered a woman, they are stuck. Which is why Lia keeps insisting he/she's a woman. He knows there nothing they can do if he is legally a woman.

I’m a proud bisexual woman. My brother is gay. I’ve got two very close friends, one of whom is non-binary and the other is transsexual. NONE of us think this is ok. There’s an undeniable difference between sex and gender, and the fact that people like Lia Thomas abuse the transsexual community in order to ensure their athletic success is appalling. It’s cheating. It’s selfish. And it doesn’t at all create a sense of unity between cis-gendered and trans-gendered people. Only resentment and division. If Lia even remotely care about the progression of trans-women in sports, she would recognize the harm she is causing and step down from her team.

Have a trans category (or two)!! Lia can swim alone in her own category and still make the same times. She’ll be the best Trans swimmer until other Trans swimmers jump in! I was the first female long-distance runner on the women’s team at UCLA! I was the entire team, and I ran alone every day.

The LGBT community has been fighting for equality for decades. Equality means equal opportunities not greater opportunities. This is not equality and stands to alienate further those who already resist equal rights for the LGBT community and to alienate even some ardent supporters. Physical biology needs to enter into the equation of equality when it comes to sports. Lia Thomas should be allowed to compete on the men's team as a women but not on the women's team as a woman.
At least fellow swimmer Natalie Fahey (who you have never heard of) still competed on the men's team as a male-to-female trans woman.
Apart from the issue of Men having massive advantages even with hormone treatment there is the issue of SAFTY the safety of women should be a priorty .
Recently at a contact sports event a woman competing against trans person had her orbital bone Smashed, and also lost by a massive amountof points. This needs to end.
