wow i'm so glad i watched this tutorial. i've been wanting to know for months now how to continue designs in a circle like the demo above, i've been painstakingly doing it by eye. oh the joy you feel when someone shows you how to do it in a few clicks, it also saddens me knowing i didn't know this technique. thank you Debbie for making my life that much simpler. i'm so grateful for you. i watch every technique you do. you're amazing.
Oh Debbie you make my head spin with all your talent,I wish I had 2 laptops so I could watch on one and try this on the other one. Your one sweet lady. Blessings,Jocelan
Debbie, you are the absolute best! I am going to be a circle cutting fool, this video makes it so easy. Thank you so much for all of your hard work and for sharing your talent.
Hi Sally, you can turn off the crosshairs by going to the "Grid" settings and click on crosshairs if it is highlighted. Also, you are able to convert to path, depending on what you're doing. I hope this information helps. :) Debbie
Hi BJ, you made me smile. I'm so glad you enjoyed the video. You'll have lots of creative fun playing with the Studio software. Thank you for your comment and for visiting. Blessings and hugs, Debbie
Thanks so much--recently I made a little French maid card and couldn't figure out how to add a lace collar in an arc shape. You solved the mystery. What a treat!
I so love your videos, Debbie! Not only did I learn what you intended to teach (too bad we can't do "object to path") but that I can turn those cross hairs off!? Woohoo!
Hi Lynne, I'm glad you enjoyed the video. The reason I rotated the motif two motifs back is; if I rotated the last one it would over shoot the space it belongs in and you would have to manually and carefully rotate it backwards..
Hi Kate, Under the advanced options reduce the percentage of the angle. this will bring the images closer together. If it doesn't work at the first angle try increasing on decreasing it. You may also need to change the amount of times you replicate it. All of these can be done under the "Advanced" settings for the replicate tool. Hugs, Debbie
OMG - thank you so much for doing this. I actually used the knife too, duplicated additional images to go around the circle (good practrice for me) and totally was "dah" about the replicate in a circle tool....geeze...talk about knowing your program tools. I love this great tutorial because I have a few more straight images I want to make into other shapes, too. Thank you again - YOU are the BEST!!!!!
fabulous video Debbie - definitely learned how to do something new, using the tools I can already use - but don't!!! You've inspired me to make more of my own stuff. Thank you xx
Hi Lemontop, please make sure you have the most recent update. I received an email from someone who had the same issue. We discovered her Studio software hadn't been updated since the 2.5.8 version. I will say; I don't care for the 2.7.6 version. I reverted to the 2.7.4 version. You can write to Silhouette for this version or find all version on the Silhouette Plus forum. If you still have problems please email me by visiting my blog and clicking on the "Email Me" link on the right hand side.
Hi PeachMelba, thank you for your very sweet comment. I'm so glad you're enjoying them. Tone, I sent you an email. You can do this to create an oval shape. I'm hoping to make a video tutorial showing how to do this.
Wow...what a great tutorial! Thanks so much! If I ever remember that I can do this with Studio, I'll have to remember to come back and watch this again!!! Thanks so much!!! BJ
I really love this tutorial! I was thinking that you could copy the mat and save then add inner circle to create frame and end up with 3 different elements; border, frame and mat. Tfs, Lena
What is the difference between making a compound path and grouping and how do you know when to use each one? I enjoy watching your videos. I learn a lot from them. They are clear and concise. Thank you for taking the time and doing them for us. :-)
Dear Debbie! Your Uotorails are so much fun. I always have the Studio open at the same time and work along with you. I have the same "problem" as hcdejonge...no cross hairs...I still use the original Studio Version 2.7.6. (not the Designer Edition) but that is ok. I still learn something. After watching all your video s I finally grasped the thing with the compund path . Thank you!
thanks for the tutorial Debbie, I learn so much from watching them. I have one question though, I am trying to recreate this shape, but I run into a snag, I don't seem to have the little circle with the cross hairs in the middle when I select the shape. I am sure I can switch it on somewhere but can't find it.....
That was so helpful and will save so much time!!! Thank you so much for sharing this. 1st time viewer. I look forward to watching more of your tutorials.
Hi hcdejonge, Which Silhouette Studio version are you using? I'm using version 2.7.4. I didn't update to the 2.7.6 because so many have had issues with doing Print and Cuts. I also use the Studio Designer Edition. One of our very kind Silhouette Plus forum members has shared all versions of the Studio software If you would like to chat more about this, please visit my blog and click on the "Email Me" link on the right hand side of the page. I will be happy to help.
This was fantastic! I have a question. Every time you replicated the final rotated copy, you went back two motifs instead of replicating the last one. Why did you do that? I know you had a very specific reason as you emphasized that point twice, and I'd really like to know!! Thanks so much for the time you give.
I truly love your videos! You have taught me so much on my cameo! Thank you so so much! I just could not rap my head around how to do this. Have a good weekend ♥
This is a great tutorial and I've always wanted to try this but for some reason, I cannot get the tiny circle with the crosshairs to appear on the border once I affixed it to the circle. Since I'm unable to get the crosshair tiny circle I cannot extend the line to the middle of the big circle in order to replicate. Any suggestions as to why? Thanks in advance.
I would love to be able to do this! However, my center of rotation isn't showing up. I clicked "show center of rotation" in the default settings and have restarted my computer and the icon still does not show up. I'm at a loss about what to do next.
I watched your video again as it had been a while since I have used this feature. My problem is getting designs touching or close. How do you adjust the distance or judge how many replications??? Thank you.
Hi ,how do I get the little circle with the cross in the box when you click on an item ,my box doesn't have it when I click on an item on my grid, hope you understand what I mean.
I am trying to get hearts to go in a circle but when I am using a circle from the Silhouette store, it does not have the little circle inside the image that you used to drag it down. What am I doing wrong?
Hi Debbi I know its been a while since you've made this video, however i just came across it today, while making the steps you made i found that when i click on the replicate button it replicates to left and right at the same time, so its not aligned, its in fact scattered all over the circle.. i'm so lost and dont know how to get it fixed , any chance you could help please thanks
Goodness... a 10 year old video. Thank you for sharing. The icons in the studio I have look completely different. But I'll play around untill I find the similar, probably updated, options.
Yes, it’s been a long time since I made any Silhoutte videos. I need to make some updated videos but these help if you correlate the old icons with the new.
Hello Debbie. Thank you for the tutorial.. I am new with Silhoutte and when trying to follow you tutorial I experienced one problem. The center crossed circle is nowhere to be found!! So I am unable to displace it to the center of the larger circle to replicate the objects. Please help me!! I am using Silhouette Studio Designer Edition V3.
Hi Li, Currently, the new Studio 3 is undergoing beta testing due to these bugs. In the original Studio 3 the "Center of Rotation" tool wasn't working correctly. You can turn it on by going to the Preferences,Default, and turn on the "Center of Rotation" tool by turning it on but it's not working. The expected soon new update release has fixed all of this and you will be able to turn it on and off by touching the letter "O" key on your keyboard.
Hi Debbie, great tutorial, just having a bit of an issue that when I do rotate five copies it spreads them all round the circle not one after the other so there are lots of gaps, have I got a setting wrong? Many thanks
Hi Tabitha, make sure you choose " Same Position" in the "Advance settings and also make sure to change the degree of rotation. For example: I use the 30 degree angle for a lot of projects. You can change the degrees accordingly. I hope this will help you along. Hugs, Debbie
Debbie. I'm new to Studio also, have not upgraded to 3.0 because it doesn't work on my Win 7 machine, locks it up tight. Will wait for some bug fixes then try again. ANYWAY, I cannot get the rotate copy to work correctly, the green rotation dot is on the top of my piece, but don't think that makes a difference. I move the crosshair dot to the center of the circle and the copies just spin around the original placement of the crosshair, as if it is not moved. If I grab the green rotate button the piece rotates around the circle so I really confused. Help?
Hi Shawn I apologise for just now responding to your comment. UA-cam had you placed in the Spam folder. The issue you are describing has been reported in both the Legacy 2.9.45 and Studio 3.0. As a beta tester for the upcoming release of the update Silhouette programmers have addressed this issue and it will be working well. We are still beta testing but I know the update is just around the corner. Hugs,Debbie
Debbie with you, they go to one side right, left and right with me where should I change something in avance I do not I hope you understand me get it because I translate with google
Hi Lennyvw, Yes, you change the settings under Advance in the "Replicate" window and you also need to select the degrees you want the shape rotated. I always use the setting of "Same position" to make the doilies. I hope this will help.
Hi Debhie I'm new to silhouette, but learning fast, but I've watched the video for making doilies, but i cannot get the little square in the middle so i can drag it to centre of the ring to duplicate, i know i must be doing something wrong, but at a lose to now what it is.HELP!!!!!.Jean
Hi Jean, I'm not sure if this is only a feature in the Studio Design Edition or not. If you hit the letter "O" the center of rotation tool will show up. After this, you should be able to drag it to the center. Please make sure you are using the most current edition of Studio. Previous editions had trouble with this feature. I'm using the Studio 3.1.417. You can download the newest update at: www.silhouetteamerica.com/software/silhouette-studio I hope this will help. Hugs, Debbie
Debbie H. Debbie, Thank You! Thank You! Thank You! I have followed your tutorials before on this subject with success, but after the last two updates (I updated today to 3.3.277). I too found that the center grid for setting rotation missing on my selected image. I have been looking for an answer all day and had used many different names for the little icon. Finally stumbled upon Jean's question. I wonder why they would make this removable & why there aren't clear instructions somewhere for putting it back on? I am so glad you are out there giving us answers.
Beth Graham Hi Beth, some people don't like the "Center of Rotation Tool" in the center of the shape they draw because it is often times grabbed by accident and dragged around, getting in the way. I keep mine off except when needed. Guess who grabs it by accident....lol..Hugs, Debbie
Hi Debbie, I came across your UA-cam video Straight Borders to Circles and I have a bit of an issue. I do have the designer edition but for some reason when I click on the shape I do not get the crossed haired circle in the middle of the shape to drag down to place the object. Hope that makes sense. Can you tell me why?
+Ingrid Slatta Hi Ingrid, it makes perfect sense. This question is asked quite often. If you hit the letter "O" it will turn the cross hair tool off and on. Have fun with the rotation tool. You will be able to do so much with it. Wishing you many blessings, Debbie
+Ingrid Slatta Hi Ingrid, Hardly any manufacturer of anything makes a decent manual. This is why I started making videos so others could enjoy these wonderful cutting machines as much as I. There are so many capabilities with the Studio software; I could have made thousands of videos instead of just hundreds. You will learn as you go along. Don't be afraid to experiment; you will learn so much on your own. Enjoy lots of crafty and creative fun with your Silhouette. Best wishes and hugs, Debbie
Julie, if you have downloaded the Studio 3.0 it is impossible fo rus PC users to do this. Silhouette programmers are working on getting thsi fixed. I thought I would warn you ahead of time. Hugs, Debbie
Debbie H. No I haven't. I read there were delays, then when everyone seemed to be having such issue with it, I thought I would wait. There seems to be many good improvements, but maybe they were in too big of a hurry to release it! Looking forward to the improved version (I hope) Thanks again - julie

why dont i get this little cross in the middle?
That is great but no matter how I try I can't get the cross hairs to turn on!

Susan
great video as always, but that little circle does not show up in my design, how do you get that? Thanks. OH, I am running Silhouette 3.0.343ssde
Hi ,how do I get the little circle with the cross in the box when you click on an item ,my box doesn't have it when I click on an item on my grid, hope you understand what I mean.
You need to tick "centre of rotation" option on the default tab of the settings in Silhouette studio software.
I’ve done exactly what you say on my cameo 3 and it does not give me that option
Debbie? Does this also work for oval shapes? Ive been trying but the border element get out of line. Got any ideas?
I am trying to get hearts to go in a circle but when I am using a circle from the Silhouette store, it does not have the little circle inside the image that you used to drag it down. What am I doing wrong?
