No other tales of game gave me the feels this game gave me. The main villains (God generals and Van) where morally gray and werent straight up villains except Dist, The main character is an incredible static character that went from most hated to a fantastic friend, Even the strongest boss had her own story via a long sensitive side quest. The main cast where flawed and human. They felt like real people.
Dist isn't evil at all, at least not in nature. Dist and Jade are the same, the only difference between the two, is Jade was stop (At start of the game due the emperor and the army, by the end Jade understand his own mistakes), while Dist pursue his and goal (Which was Jade goal) due luck of friends and eventually being a tool of Van, no wonder the game keep him alive out of all the Six Generals (Although this probably for plot reason)
While it's not noticable for people who haven't played the ps2 version, it is for me. There is no voice echoes where there needs to be. Also Mohs' monster form is supposed to be distorted. Especially with that second issue, its really jarring for someone who has played the ps2 version first.

Actually, I'm LOVING the reduction time on loading, it's far more easy to level up in the open world and stuff. It has only 4 slots for saving, I know, but I never used more than 3... so, for these reasons, 3DS port is better for me.

*!*SPOILERS*!* (UA-cam really needs a spoilers option) I first thought this song was so lovely. And now that I just finished the game, I can't bear my sorrow any more. Thinking of Ash, Ion... I really wished a different path for both of them. I really hoped they could avoid that dramatic ending. It's too painful, but my tears don't want to come out, making it even more sad. I didn't except I will miss this game and theses characters so much. Thanks Tales of the Abyss.

This game really surprised me. I expected a generic anime plot with some OK characterization like most tales of. Then, I got a well done character story with an endearing main character who went from an absolute hate straight to my favorite JRPG Protagonist.
this is why abyss is my favorite game in the series. it is not like the other games in the series it is mature and every one no matter if it's the party or the villains is well developed. the only game to be close to abyss is berseria.
@@megamike15 WHAT, I agree with you on everything about abyss, but the fact you said berseria comes close puzzles me, everyone has an opinion, but I thought it was basically a forgotten thing, everyone knows every tales game except berseria, and the majority of people I meet say it's bad(compared to other tales games, but the game isn't too bad), or it's not too bad but other tales games are definetely better
@@megamike15 Abys is my favorite game and I found Berseria to be pretty average tbh. The story didn,t mark me at all. I also dislike Vesperia, the cast is great, but nothings happened in the story... Maybe I'm just a little hars on Berseria, but I found it to be lacking style, it was missing an identity, graphics weremeh and nothing standed out. I'm not saying that graphics makes a good game, but an example of style/identity would be Persona 5, awesome design.
@@simshadows I think there's a lot of thematic overlap in the Tales games, they definitely have differing impact depending on where a person is in their own life when experiencing the story of each. Berseria coming out around the same time as Persona 5 and attempting on a darker tone for each may have resonated better with younger audiences at the time. Perhaps not a coincidence, Disgaea 5 also was doing the same thing, it might have just been where JRPGs were as an industry at the time. And I definitely agree that Tales games aren't made or broken by their graphics either. In terms of polish artistically and mechanically Vesperia absolutely obliterates Abyss, but I enjoyed Abyss on a narrative and emotional level leaps and bounds above Vesperia (and really all of the Tales titles tbh). There's definitely no perfect formula on good character writing, but something about Abyss' characters seems far more timeless than the rest of the Tales games, the plot twists and moments of tension felt like things beyond just the confines of the game itself.
If you don't want an older console and have a 3DS there is an exported version of it for that system as well! I have both, and the graphics have been slightly modified and there's a bit of lag during mystic artes, but it's basically the same! Be prepared for a very long game though, and it's worth every minute.
I found this old game in my dad's ds bin, I played it the first time and it hit my heart so badly... Then I found out my dad had the PS2 version and omg my heart sank. I still play it and I will continue playing this game!

i love how they only made one song and they keep making different renditions of it, either on different instruments or with different tempos, sometimes with lyrics sometimes not, sometimes it's on a flute, eh who knows what's going to be next, maybe slow piano, wait i found it. gang stay golden, maybe platinum

Adding to the that, in the last scene of the game when they show Luke/Asch's backside and his hair blows to reveal his blade, the handle is on the left side. Interestingly enough, Luke is left handed while Asch is right handed, further implying the end result is Luke
Well, the devs are smart enough to get good, fitting songs for the intros each time, but beyond that... almost all the Tales games have the same composer, so it's consistenly similar and good music.

Played it when I was 17 in high school. So many feels.
The normal version brings feelings of Grandure, this brings feelings of sorrow and need. It's amazing, how one instrument changes it all.
