Luke: "I don't even have a past to lose, but i've still decided that i am me. It doesn't matter what you think, here i am. If that's the source of the strength you're talking about then i won't lose!"
This version fits the feeling of Luke's story so well. It starts off slow but feels sad somehow, which I feel like can signify the weight of the trauma of his past as well as Akzeriuth, then it becomes a triumphant orchestra, which I feel like can signify the resolve he found after Akzeriuth, the will to fight, the will to protect his friends and the world, even when things got tough. Say what you will about Luke, but from the moment he cut his hair, he really did change. It wasn't right away, and that was to be expected. Nobody can ever change their bad habits immediately. From that point on, he actually felt like a real character, and no matter how bad things got, he never gave up. He never gave up on his friends. He never gave up on Tear. He never gave up on Natalia. And he sure as heck didn't give up on Anise. He stuck with Guy throughout everything, became a better friend to Mieu, and despite what had happened, he never left Jade behind, as much as he would have had every right to. And the most important part was that he never gave up on Asch, the person who blamed him for losing his past and his future, nor did he give up on Van. Right up to the end, Luke still called Van "Master", a title for a person he held respect for. Despite it all, regardless of what Van had done, he still respected him to an extent. Luke was one of the most real characters we had ever seen in the series. And I'm glad it was him. Abyss has been one of my most favorite games, and he was part of the reason why. Good on you, Luke. Good on you for proving that people can change.
The best is that it's redemption, not from being some "villain," but a completely relatable inconsiderate and self-entitled ass who finally gets that how he operates is causing his problems, and resolves to do something better.
finished abyss last night, ending up becoming my favorite game of all time. Sad to see i'm still crying over the bitter sweet ending, and the amazing redemption of luke!
The ending made me cry! The story is so good, and yeah Luke has some of the best character development in any RPG that I've played! Luke, Lloyd, and Emile all develop a lot. Yuri on the other hand stays pretty much the same throughout the whole game. Then again Yuri is 26, while Lloyd, Emil, and Luke are in their teens.
@@GuardianAngelEatos Yuri has what is called a "flat character arc". He is already developed and fleshed out from the beginning of the game, and instead his role is to develop and move other characters along, which he does really well. He is also pretty refreshing in that he gets shit done - he does what other RPG protags would only think about and is overall just such a chill and helpful guy you can count on.
I randomly found this piece of music around 5 years ago, and I used it while studying. This year I graduated highschool, marching to the stage to this piece of art.
Mine too! The story is so good! The characters are very memorable too, including the villains, even though the villains in the game weren't really true villains.
Beautiful. Takes me back to when I first played Tales of the Abyss. Namco should do an HD remaster of Abyss next, I feel it's definitely a story everyone should experience.
I remember playing Abyss in middle school, getting to the Tower of Rem and feeling convinced that Luke was going to die there and Asch would take over as the main character, and man was I _sobbing_
For the people who seem to be wondering why Xillia is on the cover and not a more popular title like Vesperia or Symphonia, they have the characters from the anniversary titles on here. Cress and Mint - Tales of Phantasia, first tales of game Luke - Tales of the Abyss, 10th anniversary game Milla and Jude - Tales of Xillia, 15th anniversary game Sorey - Tales of Zestiria, 20th anniversary game While Eternia came out 5 years after phantasia, they didn't refer to it as a anniversary title, same with Legendia, which came out the same year as Abyss.
to me Eternia is the 3rd best after Abyss and Vesperia xD (girly voice) Thunder blade BAAAAAM But I have not played Symphonia, graces, zestiria or Berseria (i don't count the DS and PSP ones or the only japanese)
MrZahsome It had nothing to do with Eternia being boring, just with this particular titles being the "Anniversary Project" games. And Legendia was not considered an Anniversary Project because technically it was suposed to release earlier, but it got hit with delays and they had to rush it out of the gates. It was also done by a backup team composed of different studios that were not part of Namco's Tales team (if I recall they had members of the Tekken and Souls teams working on it).
Xillia is my favorite actually but when I went through the comments of this (and the other songs from this cd) a lot of people kept asking where's lloyd and one even said why do jude and milla get to be on it rather than him.
Every Tales of Game seems to have the same themes that I think could be described in this song. No matter who or what you are, whether a replica of someone else, a half-elf, or even a dark lord (in Velvet’s case), everyone has a right to live.
I love Tales of the Abyss so much. Listening to this song, especially at x 1.25 speed while reading the comments just reminds me how much I love this game. Played it on 3DS last year and since it's been very special to me. I hope they give this a remaster so more people can experience Abyss, maybe get the original cast to voice the skits (Like considering how Luke, Tear, Jade, and Natalia's VAs are in Fire Emblem Heroes, and Mieu's VA being in Vesperia DE, I don't see how they can't get alot of the original cast). I bet this song would've been great to listen to at the actual concert.
There are a lot of Tales of the Abyss reference in Tales of Vesperia, like a monster, I believe called gentlemen. The monster wears a mask with Luke, Tear and Mieu's face on it.

(it requires you answer the question of who mystery man is at the end and that is guaranteed to divide the fanbase)
