- Dragon's Dogma 2 is the sequel to Capcom's cult classic Dragon's Dogma from the Xbox 360 that really came out of no where. Fans like myself were shocked when it was announced that Dragon's Dogma 2 was in development and the time leading up to launch was filled with promising trailers and gameplay that made the game look better in every way compared to the original. Right before launch the reviews for the game released and the reception was overwhelmingly positive and it looked like Dragon's Dogma 2 was a real contender for Game of the Year 2024...that was until the Microtransactions, Performance Issues, and Save File Drama emerged. Not only is Dragon's Dogma 2 an extremely poorly optimized game on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X, but the game featured some microtransactions that granted immediate access to easily obtained items in the game early on in this single player story driven RPG. Some going as far as to describe them as Pay To Win. Did Capcom's Greed RUIN Dragon's Dogma 2 and cause the game to FAIL?

Well you are either here for 2 reasons:
1. You Think Dragon's Dogma's Microtransactions are "Pay to Win" - They're Not & They are All Easy to Obtain Items
2. You are Here to Defend Dragon's Dogma 2 - The Game is Fun But DEEPLY flawed and runs like absolute shit
My main critiques are:
1. PERFORMANCE
2. No Save File Deletion
3. Traversing the Open world without fast travel is tedious and gets old very quick
Overall though I am enjoying the game and can still point out some flaws, but some of y'all need to calm the fuck down. This shit is gaming and it really ain't that deep.
Go figure that Point 3) Traversing the open world isn't easy, has been a problem since the 1st game.
Shame since it has clear potential.
I haven't played it yet but is it worse then the first game? The first game had a lot of problems with fast travel...... let's say complications .......

@@MrVlad12340 I don’t know what you are talking about, but the cost for making these kind of games have double maybe even triple in the last 15 years, inflation is hitting even harder, every product, food, cars, houses, electronic went up in price
but guess what ? Games have not change in price at all, the cost of AAA games are the same, the games that cost 80 at launch are very few, but 99% of AAA games cost 59,99$ at launch and this hasn’t change at all
and due to this problem we are getting more micro transactions even in single player games, but you all decide to ignore the reality of the situation, refusing to accept that these cost of producing these AAA games is double and it continues to to increase.
This game is a perfect example of corporate greed overpowering real issues. I literally had to change my sorcerer pawn to ranger because the magic attacks dip the frames into the low 20's.

The reputation of Shadow of War was completely ruined for some people because of the Micro transactions that were later removed from the game. Goes to show even if you fix a bad thing it’s the lasting taste people will remember
Eventually these games end up selling for 5$ at sales.
Star wars battlefront 2 did quite a decent job turning a new leaf with players and eventually found itself fans who forgave them enough to play.

Arrekz Gaming (iirc) (posting a comment on Asmon’s video of Cowboy’s video) said something to the effect of “actually, it seems Capcom gave out MULTIPLE / DIFFERENT preview game packages to various reviewers / streamers… and some of those DIDNT have the same revealing language that Cowboy cited. In other words, is it possible that Yong / Arrekz got one version (not showimg clearly the upcoming Micros), while Cowboy (and others) did in fact get a more detailed / accurate preview package ?

This is my game of the year just like the first one was when it came out. I fucking love this game so much. This is an actual video game and not a 30 hour movie with gameplay segments.
Yeah, about the same thing here except i didnt played DD1. I enjoy every minutes of playing it so far and im at around 30 hours of play time. I just wish ill be able to play other toons (multiple saves).

I don’t like that people feel that reviewers need to be scathing in their reviews for the MTX that aren’t relevant because they “might” be pushed harder in future games. That is a future review problem.
You can delete your save I did it myself and started again, you have to do it through the save data on the console storage this does work and deletes your character and progress
The reason why the micros in dd2 and re4 don’t bother me is because both of these games are complete. The micros don’t hide anything exclusive like weapons or armor or anything enticing to pull the player into buying.
They’re items that you already get in the main game. These micros are extra for those who want to shortcut (why, I’ll never know). If capcom took the micros away, it wouldn’t effect the base game whatsoever.
The micros that are problematic are the ones that entice you, like really cool looking weapons or skins, powerful armor, shit like that. Capcom doesn’t seem to do that. So this is a genuine situation where, if you don’t want the micros, don’t buy them, is a good response. That response becomes condescending and pointless when we’re talking about micros that change the course of the base game.

the DLC they sell separately is the DLC of the pre order bonuses and deluxe edition, but most people are misinformed about the mtx that Capcom provides.

My main problem with Dragon's dogma 2 is the DRM and the single save file issues. Like, oh a quest is bugged? Well tough luck, stuck in floor and can't get out no matter what you do? Well that's your problem.

What I think the reason for the way save data is held is cause a guy who lost his max lv fully kitted character and pawn twice I think this will keep them safe but I understand what ppl want
I disagree with traversing the open world. I actually do like their isn’t much fast travel as a method made me appreciate the things I found in world. At first I hated the idea but it grew on me. Now that’s just me traveling in the day. Night I did that once my pawns and I got wrecked by some random drake then a griffin swooped down and helped the drake as well.I almost wanted to throw my monitor out the window because by chance of that happening and especially the drake was half health I never experienced something so unscripted and random for all my years gaming. Except my friend Carter’d him self into a tank for the squad in battlefield 3 while piloting a jet. That and you can just throw a random child at a monster. Did to an attacking Cyclops at one of the cities grabbed a random child and just chucked them into a orc’s eye. A game that can let you do that is a 10/10 for me
There's nothing to explore in the world though. You just backtrack through an empty generic landscape and fight the same enemies again.

@@xavierpeterson7139 Wrong. Backtracking is one of the worst things about video games. It's busywork that is often implemented by lazy or incompetent devs to pad out game length under the guise of "immersion" in exchange for actual fun. Just have it accessible in the world map. This isn't hard.

After sinking 5 hours into this title I decided to look at the GriffinGaming review. Excited knowing a fellow gamer appreciates the quality of gameplay put into a single creation for us all to experience..... But I was wrong. Shortly into listening I heard the forbidden words in the gaming industry "Micro-Transactions" 😮 me in shock, "Could I be so nieve, Did I miss something like this hidden in plain sight" Then proceeding to rush to my console and head to the store page.... My worse nightmare's were confirmed. Confused, Scared, and Abandoned these were the feelings the purged my mind as I sat there in distraught. Continuing listening to the review I hear the words of our video game LORD AND SAVIOR Yong Yea says he doesn't agree with said PAY2WIN mechanics in a title I thought was near perfection. "Am I a fraud?" I said to myself dropping to me knees.. Shedding a single tear I knew what had to be done. I proceeded to stand up. Wipe my face and hover over the uninstall option. It prompted me "Are you sure you want to uninstall" I shook my head yes then decided to throw my console off the top of my roof knowing uninstalling wouldn't be enough... "Never again" I said to myself knowing I could never settle for such savagery ever again....
My issue is definitely the save file thing. Like why have we regressed to the point that you only have one save file with some of these modern games. In the case of this game you can't start a new game either which sounds very stupid. I hope they patch that in and at least give the player 3 save files minimum.

I admit that i prefer optional purchases you can get by just playing the game normally to staight up purchases you can only get through the cash shop or suffer grinding 2 to 3 months for the mere chance at getting something that you should arguably get by just completing objectives, by instead artificially extending the grind through bs like unnecessary time locking.

ACG was my go to dude for reviews, not anymore, he lied about it during a stream, said he saw the store option in the menu and wasnt active at the time of the review and thought nothing about it and didn't mention it, a few hours later here comes the document showing reviewers had a full list of what dlc will be available.

Im a dragon's dogma purist. I struggled through DD1 as a kid. THe quirks grew on me, and many of the jank and tedium that grew on me from the first game is still present in 2. So, performance and shady mtx aside, I can 100% see how like this first game, this won't be for everyone: doubly so now that the world is significantly bigger. (perhaps made worse by the fact you can buy fast travel nodes).
But whenever I replayed the first game I never used the freebies the DLC/remastered releases gave me and this will be no different. Strugglemaxxing. Shame Crapcom had to drag what is otherwise a solid (but not perfect) sequel through the mud like this and cloud any discussion surrounding the game but cest la vie.

In terms of the recent outrage, it's curious. While it's true we had that stuff in all Capcom games (I recently got RE 7 on discount - great game), the price for games has gone up and we have a world-wide inflation going on. Maybe that's the reason why consumers are miffed.

It's crazy that this is the reason why people should not buy the game instead of the actual issues that should be front and center like the performance and save issues. These are optional items that are obtainable in the game, which serve people who want to speed up the process.

Ive been trying to push back on monetization for years because my fear is that it will get worse over time, which it seems like it has. I mean, we have Sega paywalling NG+ in a game series that always had it.
Sorry but I need people to support this game. just like the original game, it is one of the best action rpg games that actually focuses on amazing unique gameplay and not cutscenes. It’s actually pushing the genre of game forward. The micro transactions shouldn’t be there sure but like you said it’s in every capcom game, it would be something to complain about if the store was in your face like a Ubisoft game but it isn’t, it’s a stupid tax. If we skip every game with MC, we would’ve skipped on Resident Evil 4 remake. I wish it wasn’t there but it shouldn’t stop anyone from experiencing an actual video game that is actually fantastic, in a game series that was so underrated and under appreciated for such a long time. Don’t steal it’s shine away Grif. The stuff we should be calling out for the game is the frame rate and not having multiple save slots.
Holy hell, somebody said it. I saw the Microtransaction List, and yeah I don't think Microtransactions are good, but these ones are not even as bad as other games. I'm not even past the Capital yet and I have 2k right crystals, and 8 wakestones. All of that, as you said, can be earned by playing the game. Exploration is part of the Open World RPG element. You've already spent 70$ on the game, just don't buy anything else and explore.
This thought process of "Pay to Win," is clearly a skill issue.

I'm glad I waited. I wanted to see how the game was at launch... and I refuse to pay $70 for base game. I got TOTK around $50 - 60 as I used my discounts on the game to save some money.
I love Dragon's Dogma, but I can't support this tactics. I'm sick of DRM. I'm sick of these MTX. I'm sick of these greedy business practices. And I'm SICK of CONSUMERS defending these practices. I'll wait to see if they fix them AND they reduce the price over time.
Even though I'll think about. I wanted a sequel to Dragon's Dogma, but I'm happy with the first one. Even when that got MTX they removed it for Dark Arisen.
I hope this year Game Companies finally get the slap in the face they deserved.

I'm here, for the third reason!
We're right to be upset, at MTX that seems to shadow drop with new games. It's normal to feel betrayed, when we got some reviewers down playing it, while others are straight up gas lighting and lying about it.
Only the most expensive MTX, the camping set, would actually make any real difference to your enjoyment.
But, that's further encroachment upon MTXing the fun factor, out of games. Carry weight matters, in a game with no easy/infinite fast travel, food spoils, your max health drops and can only be restored by camping, and golden beetles that give you an increase to carry weight only give 00.5 increase, even 0.5 less carry weight when I first set out on a journey matters.
The next Mega Man game, will sell E-Tanks for five dollars
The next DMC, will only let you play as Dante, if you pre order
The next RE, the merchant from 4 will be on the menu screen when you bring up item inventory, to sell you bullets for 0.99 cents per pop.
There's no need to boycott, just don't buy it until they sell us the "complete" edition, in another six months.

When i read what the deluxe edition came with i immediatly knew there was gonna be microtransactions but i assumed the rift credits were a premium currency. Regardless this whole debacle has been a straight embarassment on the consumer and content creators side. A real shame that people waste their energy on this bs
the fact most of the item you can get in the game and it low price that I bet all my money on once they finish the game, Capcom told the dev to add at the last min, that why the price so low that I bet if the item was put in the game in the beginning, the price would be high
I find it weird how people are just complaining about microtransactions in capcom games considering how in all their games have similar monetization
It's a fun game to zone out with. I wish more enemy varieties existed, and that i think the feel of combat is a but floaty due to mo caps and the physics system. It's definitely impactful when doing big takedown hits, but movement has that imprecise feel to it that can be irksome.
I’ll wait till a goty edition or something alike. Maybe with a dlc in it.
I'm still enjoying Grand blue rising and FF 7 rebirth along with RE4 remake. Every game from every dev isn't something you have to support. Find a diamond in the rough and just enjoy. And if you're enjoying Dragons dogma 2 good for you just remember what you stand for and tolerate.
Ive been liking the game it does have its fair share of issues but overall its a fun game i did like how the first one we were able to get an eternal ferrystone made fast travel much more accessible wouldnt mind if they added it again in an update or possible dlc
I watched my brother play it and he played for almost 10 hours straight and had not a single performance issue at all, at almost max settings.
That you can only have one char was the same in the first one as far as I remember
And the fact that there was no fast travel was openly advertised by the creators, since they wanted it to feel like a actual journey , to make a game you fully need to experience and openly said it wont be for everyone in the slightest
The micro transactions couldnt care less about i mean honestly...you can just ignore them

The thing I like in your videos, is that you don't come up with some stupid bullshit, you always cut right to the important bits giving your thoughts on something, I've only followed your channel since 2020, while I was waiting for Doom Eternal to release, but your content is genuinely good dude and your honesty and how you straight up explain things goes a long way, as much as I despise all the shit Capcom has done to Dragon's Dogma 2, I'm still gonna buy it, because it was one of my most anticipated games, like ever since they announced it lol, again tho another good video.

MY biggest issues are
The lack of new classes, I personally would love a monster tamer class. The trickster class being a proof of concept.

The lack of new enemies to fight, you will be fighting the 5 or 6 same things all game that you've already fought loads of times in the first game.

The last game I pre-ordered was Cyberpunk for PS4. That game taught me a lesson and now I never pre-order again. I wait a month or two and if the game is ok, then I buy it.
I decided to wait until DD2 gets some patches so I can't say anything out of personal experience, but I very much agree with your actual critiques. Not being able to delete your game save is just odd and even though my PC could propably run the game without going under 30fps I want to be sure that I'll enjoy the game. What I'm most pissed about is the ammount of rage bait comments online. At release day I wasn't sure at all which critiques were true and which were false
