Using Tonex Inside AmpliTube 5

  • Tonex has its own software application but it can also be used directly inside of AmpliTube 5. If you don't have a Tonex physical pedal or the hardware for modeling your own amps you may need nothing other than the features provided inside AmpliTube. The goal of this video isn't to explain all of Tonex. I found the UI somewhat confusing at first so once I figured some things out I thought it was worth sharing some lessons learned to make your journey a little easier

Thanks, great modeling software but the interface isn't designed very well.. Do you feel Tonex Max to be a worthy version to purchase?
    Your tutorial definitely helped ✌️

I don't but that is not meant as a criticism of Tonex. I just think AT5 has so much to offer and is more flexible for what I need it for. I don't have a need for Tonex. HOWEVER if you want to model physical gear you have access to, or want to purchase the Tonex pedal and use Tonex sounds live it's worth considering. It would certainly be more convenient to carry around a single pedal than a laptop, USB interface, and foot controller. Since I got it as a bundle, it is nice to experiment with crazy expensive things like Dumble amps and Klon pedals but soncially they don't do that much for me! I also have gotten some use out if by listening to sounds tailored for songs and then using that as a guide for tweaking AT5.

@@UncleTodMusic oh I'm definitely in favor of a laptop. A million more options and a lot easier to work with. I have no interest in the pedal just the presets and captures.
I say this because I grabbed a few from toneNet That are closer to the real thing than anything I've heard before..
i'm a basement home studio junkie so I think we're on the same page..
And thanks again for all the tutorials ✌️

Hello I am having issues with Amplitube 5 and not being able to save the presets as a TXP file. It looks like it saves it as a AT5 file only. I am using Windows 10 .

I'll preface with the fact that I'm pretty new to Tonex and I'm not positive what you are trying to do. However, my understanding is that AT5 chains can't be used in TONEX so you wouldn’t (shouldn't?) be able to save them as Tonex Preset Files (txp). One reason for this would be the warning I called out in the manual; time-based effects aren't supported in Tonex. If you had those in an AT5 chain and saved it as a tonex preset and loaded it what would one expect to happen? Elsewhere I have read that since tonex presets get loaded into the Tonex pedal you can't save AT5 chains as Tonex presets because the pedal doesn't have the processing power of your laptop to turn the AT5 chain into analog audio.
If I'm off base and you just want to tweak a Tonex Model and save that preset then I think you just have to do that from the Tonex software not the AT5 software.

I’m still a bit confused on it not supporting some effect. I mean I go in plenty of presets with those effects. I don’t have any IK pedals. I was hoping I could get a midi controller pedalboard and be able to switch them on and off. I haven’t got this far. I have watched your vids and still do many questions. And or so do I need to build my own in AT and find a midi that will work, figure out how to set up each button, then be able to control everything? Uggh so much to go over. I appreciate you taking the time to make these vids.

I think you understand correctly. If a particular model includes a pedal effect you can't turn it on and off. I think this is done this way because the Tonex physical pedal doesn't have the processing power that your laptop has so you load into that pedal pre-rendered effects. If you aren't using the physical tonex pedal I would say you are better off sticking to models without pedals and then using the pedals in AT5 which you can easily turn on/off with a midi foot controller (as I show in a couple of other videos in the getting started playlist). There is a LOT to go over to figure out just AT5 - Tonex adds another layer, which is why I didn't even bother with it until I spent a year with AT5! That's probably a little too long but I still haven't plumbed all that AT5 has to offer.

@@UncleTodMusic Thanks, maybe once you download and save a model? Anyways I just order an expression pedal so I can try that and see. But currently I'm looking to find a midi pedal board that won't be a pain to set up. Finding different results online.

Tonex doesn’t have the same flexibility that AT5 has. As far as I know, if you don’t see a menu for midi control for an item then you can’t use a foot pedal to control it.

@@UncleTodMusic So again I’m new to this, but looks like if I go on TONEX and find a preset someone has gone to great lengths to build then just download and save it’s now technically in AT5. I just got an expression pedal yesterday and was able to control the wah or volume with it based on one of the presets I saved. So I’m starting to get an understanding. And thank you for your time. Also all the time you take making the vids and going slowly through items. You mentioned not geeking out to much on some vids, but actually for some it might be helpful to some. I have been watching some vids and looks like the Nektar Pacer and the Paint Audio Captain might be some good options for ease of set up with AT. Still looking talked to someone with a fbc1010 and it was a huge pain to get it to work. Thanks again.

Tonex missed the mark by not having a additional Overdrive block so you could use it with the Amp Models and Captures and should have also included a Delay Effect block!I will not buy a Tonex Pedal because of this!

Have to hope in the next iteration they get these features.
