I AM SO TORN! I cannot choose between an oval or emerald cut. The emerald cut SPEAKS to me, I love everything about it! But all of the jewelers I have spoke with have told me the flaws will be so noticeable... The oval is pretty too but it doesn't have that unique stairway shine that I absolutely adore....

The oval only came into fashion when Harry and Meghan became engaged.
The emerald cut and its sister cut, the asscher (my personal favorite) are timeless classics and anyone who knows diamonds will know that you have a high-quality stone between those prongs (otherwise, don’t do it.).
If you are going to spend the money on a diamond, you may as well spend the money on a damn good one. Stick with the classics- they will never let you down.

I had an emerald cut diamond…..step cut. It’s like two mirrors facing each other….you get that infinity effect. If there is a tiny imperfection you see it over and over and over. That’s why that cut diamond was usually more expensive. It wasn’t the shape it was that the diamond has to be exceptionally clean, which makes it expensive. There is an emerald cut radiant which is not the step cut. I don’t think they are as strikingly beautiful as the traditional step cut.
Make sure you get excellent clarity….VS1 and better, a colorless or near colorless G or better and great proportions…..not shallow or too deep, that kills the sparkle. Remember, quality not quantity…..go smaller if the quality is better.

@@Pugtruffles- I sold diamonds for a family business. Oval diamonds have been popular often through the past 50+ years.

What did you decide? I went emerald. Love it. Even with the jeweler attempting to push radiant on me. No regrets.

I have always been in love with the Marquis cut it is so elegant even though I'm heavy set...I have very small hands, I wear a five... But they give me a six just in case my finger swell...but I have tiny hands and a marquise makes them look even smaller.

A buyer must see at least 3 stones that are the same size and same price side by side.
Diamonds are very different and the nice ones will stand out.
Find a jeweler that will show you 3 elongated cushion cut stones with a ratio between 1.27 and 1.30.
Specifically ask for one to be a hybrid. I predict that the hybrid stands out above the brilliant and the modified (crushed ice). If your budget allows for a stone with a large table ( ie. 2+ ct round or 1.5 ct elongated cushion/radiant/oval) you need to choose a higher clarity of at least vvs2.
To be as safe as possible, don’t buy any stone that is not engraved.

Different. Baguette’s are usually used as accent stones.
