We lived on the coast for 20 yrs. Beautiful to look at but constant maintenance, and expences. Went through one hurricane (thats enough) This is why we chose the villages. We have the best of both worlds and so close to all the great things central florida offers.

When you buy a new home in the villages it comes with automatic free appointment with landscapers to show you how to run your irrigation system also there is an appointment set up after you move in with the heating and air-conditioning people to explain all that to you and when you close you meet with the builder and he walks you through every house aspects such as the lights the roost light switches carpeting tells you everything.
Also when you buy a new home you have a one-year absolute guarantee and all you do is make a quick phone call in the next morning you will be getting calls from people to make appointments to fix anything you need.
Things such as paint touchups citing that meeting seamlessly grout needing to be filled in any particular spots missing pieces of plastic and window treatments anything you can think of.

Whoa. Go to the Sales office and get a new map. The brand new areas around Fenney? Be patient, update your GPS next year. High season is busy for all activities. We are getting a Wendy’s on 466A, others will follow. Not having big named stores keeps our little unique stores in business. Brand new wood shop being built due to the popularity. Thanks for the videos!

Another great video! You’re not alone in your selection of things that could be better in The Villages. Linda, I’m with you. The Villages needs some better stores. I’ll miss Dillard’s terribly! The one concern I have is the lot size and trying to fight for a bit of privacy. I’d like to do ceramics and I make wreaths. I’m hoping TV has classes in both that I can actually join! Thank you for your insight!

I think they do, crafty people are all around here! Small yards are a plus, but you need creative ways to store things. Nothing is allowed outside where we live... and we LOVE it that way. We had to adjust after having a basement, five car garage spaces and a deluxe shed.

I knew the beaches were 1.5 hr ride because I first wanted to live by the beaches. Look at it this way hurricanes come you are 1.5 hours away rather than a front row seat. Thanks for another great video. Have a nice warm day!

The villages GPS should be updated, not sure if you're using that?
Golf -the computer system sign up is the way to go, but you will have no tee time issues in the off season!
Pickleball lessons - sounds like that's an offseason adventure for you.
Fast food - definitely need a Chic Fil-a!!
Kids - maybe volunteer at the Villages Charter School?
In general, since you'll be an year rounder, you should be able to get into the clubs/woodshop etc in a couple months when things start to empty out around the area. Will be great to hear your updates in the summer and how you adapt and what you think of the weather - never been there in the dead of summer but am curious for the real story from you both!
Not sure if you've read the book "Inside the Bubble"- that might have a lot of the info you are looking for but sounds like you have a nice neighbor and that can be more helpful than a book.
But overall , sounds like you are enjoying everything.

Hi Jerry and Linda - I am a subscriber to your videos and find them very helpful. I will be turning 64 in July 2021, plan on retiring at around 65 and possibly moving to The Villages, but don't know if I can afford it. I couldn't help but notice in this video, you used the term "millionaire," and implied you don't have to be one necessarily to live in The Villages. It does seem that The Villages can be expensive. So my question is, what kind of "nest egg" does one need? I would purchase one of the less expensive houses ($230,000 or so), and will have a "nest egg" of about $1.3M or so when I turn 65. Does that sound like enough? (I will most likely want to work part-time when I'm down there.) Anything you can share with me will be appreciated.

I don't know all the ins and outs, but they have lots of tools... I heard 17 lathes, multiple table saws, etc. and woodworkers take turns using them. I don't think you sign up, you share. Anyone can go there anytime... after you're a member. You have to do a full day of safety training on the tools and do some community service, like making toys for needy kids. I'm kind of over woodworking. but I always have some sort of project where I need to cut, sand, or shape something. The new shop being built is supposed to be about five minutes from our house.

It is a fee that is charged to each home in the Villages at the time it is built. The infrastructure in a community including tunnels bridges etc is divided among the number of homes and each home owner that purchases is responsible for a share. That can be paid annually over the course of owning the home, or it can be paid off all at 1 time.

Hi I'm a newbee also and my pet peaves is that a lot of areas are not pedestrian friendly. For instance walking to my mail box requires walking in the grass or cutting through neighbor's property or walking to Spanish Springs. No sidewalks! Also you can't use garbage cans so you have to buy two types of plastic bags and large paper bags all the time. Another thing no gyms, have to buy a membership. Other communities have a free gym. But all in all the positives outweigh the negatives!

What’s not to like ? The answer is- Too many rules and close neighbors. The rules Such as, only 2 dogs or cats. High taxes ( i pay less than a1/3 just outside the villages). No fenced yards allowed (except villas.)no self `car work unless you are inside your closed garage. No vegetable gardens unless in pots. Grandchildren can’t stay overnite more than 30 days a year- even in emergency. Just too many rules for us. Fortunately my husband bought our big place in a deed restricted but very liberal ruled subdivision zoned agriculture prior the The Villages ( it was Orange Blossom Gardens mobile home park then) so our house value has soared. hubby can golf at many local courses. So we just give up the clubs and activities. We have our own pool.`my Villager friends complain of nosey neighbors. Thanks to the villages the whole area economy is great and crime is low , healthcare and shopping are great. Visit and look but consider moving nearby but not in’ unless you are a club joiner or golfer.

The phone tee time system is horrible, pay the 8 dollars, it's worth it. Publix is always the most expensive next to Fresh Market, go to Walmart or Aldi's. Use Waze on your phone for GPS, it is up to date. The biggest problem with activities, golf etc and crowding is because the covenants don't restrict rentals in here and this is not a real gated community. I don't mind the snowbirds who own and come down to use their places in the winters but the renters are another story. They should not allow short term rentals here. Your proximity to restaurants, shopping etc is very limited where you live and I don't see that getting better anytime soon. Now they are going to double in size in that area with the development south of 44. We are in the north end and close to all of the shopping etc. Our problem is that all the people from the south end have to come up Morse Blvd and into our area to get to all of the shopping, doctors, entertainment, bowling etc and it is getting worse every year. No kids, but you see a lot of old people which can wear on you. We try to get outside the Villages once or twice a week to help with that. Beach is a long way but there are some great lakes with restaurants etc around here. Try Eaton's Beach. They are building a second woodshop near you soon.

Hi not sure if anyone answered your question but chemical sunscreen could bother your eyes. You may prefer mineral sunscreen that contains zinc. Zinc however could leave a white cast. A suggestion is La Roche-Posay Anthelios Mineral Face Sunscreen Ultra-Light SPF 50. La Roche-Posay make chemical sunscreen in a similar bottle so read the label. CVS, Target and Walgreens carry it. You want to like using it or you won't put it on. There are lots of videos on sunscreen reviews. Here are a couple:
    ua-cam.com/video/R5irSiMtfzg/v-deo.html
    ua-cam.com/video/A4MXp8-AQfc/v-deo.html

    • @JERRYANDLINDA
      @JERRYANDLINDA  5 років тому +1

Well, Steve... good question. If you want to decorate inside, knock yourself out. As for the outside, whimsical, artsy expression would be frowned upon. If your neighbors didnt complain though, you'd be fine. The quality uniformly beautiful yards and exteriors is a big part of why we moved here.
I love art... but if I put a cubist design on my exterior, a realist may frown on it. If I put out a flower sculpture, a neighbor might feel justified with a lawn jockey.
As for bossy overseers, we haven't seen that.

Seems like everyone is to preoccupied with who doing what, or who is not. Oh my goodness. Who can live like that? Even the bird's flying around have to be quite . Be carful where they land. Kidding!!. I'm sure you have very noisy neighbor's. Even though you say there wonderful. I bet you anything when you leave your home there peaking though there blinds wondering where your going. Can you have a barbecue party in your yard with music? And I don't mean loud music. ( Low ). Soft relaxing. This is the normal American way. Well I guess you can go out to eat barbecue. So you won't' want the neighbor's to smell the barbecue. My my what will the neighbor's think. 🤔 After all this is your property. To many mental concerns. Exhausting. Anyway as long as your happy. Any time you get thousands of people in a small area you will get a life style that will not make everyone "Happy". Look at all the big cities around the world i.e. New York, Los Angles, Vegas, Philly, and the list goes on. Traffic is horrendous with a bunch of elderly, medicated, alcohol induced people on enhanced golf carts driving around. I'm just saying that if you like living in a overcrowded environment that does not have the means to provide year around services albeit Golf, Restaurants, Activities, and so forth then by all means come to the Villages. Years ago it was a great place because it was "Manageable" but like anything else it has exploded to be a overpriced, overcrowded money pit that has a lot of people saying......ENOUGH OF THIS! Buyer be Ware and look elsewhere! Rent first before you buy! Do your homework and don't get "Suckered" into all the hoopla! Just Sayin!!!!
