  • Balancing food security with animal and human health in India: Can a One Health framework meet the challenge?
This second webinar in India’s Roadmap II activities will help explore the need for a One Health framework to ensure a sustainable and safe poultry supply chain for food security in India. Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is closely linked with animal welfare, the safety of poultry, biohazards and usage of growth promoters etc. The Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 2 focuses on zero hunger and stipulates that animals harmed by AMR affect farmers’ livelihoods and negatively impact food security. Similarly, Goal 3 underlines the threat of bloodstream infection due to antimicrobial-resistant organisms and the increased cost of treatment due to AMR.
Roadmap II is a series of country-level events taking forward the discussions of the One Health Poultry Hub-wide Roadmap Series. The first webinar, 'Beyond Blueprints: Opportunities for implementing One Health AMR governance in India', took place late last year. Roadmap II in India aims to contribute to the evolving discourse in the country on policy design, implementation and monitoring of sustainable poultry production, and strengthening the One Health agenda post-COVID-19. The webinars are to be followed by a high-level roundtable taking these important discussions further.
