Most trucks are now automatic, most truck 12 speed boxes. Scania is usually 3 over 3 config if manual (shifter). with a high low range and a splitter. 16 speed boxes are usually on Heavy haulage. The general idea with driving in UK you try to keep left and when you got into Europe you try to keep right

Not sure where you are from but here in Greece most scanias had 6x6 gearbox (6 splits with clutch)

if your starting in the UK distance should be shown in miles. We are a strange little island that uses metric and imperial systems depending on what we are measuring. Also as I live in Manchester! go us for being home away from home in ETS2

    Welcome to Europe, good content!
In terms of mirror setup, common recommendation here is to have the "normal" side mirror set to high and out to the side (barely see the side of your truck, but good sight on what is far and where your trailer goes) and the small wide-angle side mirror to low and close (see from the front wheel to what's just next to your tractor), so you cover as much of the close dead angle as possible.
Usually you should see far aproaching cars well in the large side mirror, as they disappear from that mirror they should come into the small wide-angle mirror, and as they disappear from that one they should come in actual sight through the side window.
In the standard mirror setup in ETS2, both side mirrors always show the same area.

You can fit a Scania specific shifter/transmission then select that in the controls settings for your shifter layout. Should give you the most realistic layout for that truck.

I’m just about finishing up my third week on my realistic economy profile on ATS and I have to say to anyone running a realistic economy profile, get a trailer as soon as possible!
The freight market has very few jobs and some cities might even have no jobs for days at a time.
With the cargo market (I use a dry van), I can drop off a load and get to choose between 4-10+ jobs from that same business.
The dry van isn’t the most profitable trailer but seems to be the most reliable in terms of finding another job at or close to where you dropped off your last load.
My 53ft dry van typically makes $2.50-$3.18 /mile (when I do my own math (pay/mileage) it can be as high as $4+/mile) the average pay rate for cargo according to the mod is $2.58/mile.
They aren’t very cheap, a 28ft dry van can cost $40k+ and a 53ft dry van can cost over $80k so it’s quite the investment But definitely worth it in the long term.

16 speed used to be accurate. but i believe the top end new Scania is a 13 speed with a 14th crawler gear.
it does not have a conventional reverse gear anymore either, it uses a planetary gear which gives it 8 reverse speeds/gears.
most European trucks use a 12 speed Forward plus a high and low reverse for a 14 gear total.
as for automatic, or manual. pretty sure no European truck after like 2012 is available with a manual gearbox anymore, at least highway trucks. they might still offer some manual options for special use trucks. as well as there are lots of aftermarket companies in Europe that do cab rebuilds and stuff like that, as well as manual conversion on the transmissions which support it.
its also not a completely stupid automatic gearbox like 20 years ago. its more like Semi-Automatic, it will do everything automatically. but you can still go + and - to shift manually if you want, as well as you can stick it in a gear and have it stay in that gear.
similar to what you might see on European road cars with an Automatic transmission. i believe its Mercedes where, when you have the stick set to D. if you push it sideways either way, you can still force the gearbox to shift down or up manually trough the gears. Automatic gearboxes in European trucks work exactly like that.
even when we did have manual gearboxes in Europe it was different from the ones in the USA in the sense that, truck gearboxes have been synchronized boxes here since the mid 90's. means you don't have to double clutch, or float gears. here a Manual Semi Truck shifts exactly the same as a manual car. other then having a gear splitter and a high and low for each gear.

Hey, nice start to your ETS2 career! Although, I felt you should have started your career in continental Europe, because the location of that first base will also affect your first truck.
Also, turn that rain sensor back on. It saves you the trouble of looking for the key to turn the wipers on (and its a thing IRL on European trucks, as one of the commenters have informed you).
Many European trucks are automatics (or to be more precise, automated manuals; matter of fact, the Volvo FH16 cabover that you'll encounter in Europe and the North American VNL model share the same I-Shift tranny) PACCAR-owned DAF offers a manual transmission as an option. On Mercedes-Benz Actros and DAF XG+ models, there's the rearview camera system, which replaces rearview mirrors entirely with a camera and LED screens on the cab.
And then there's the matter of the different chassis that you'll encounter there. There's the classic 4x2, and then there's the 6x2/4 midlift (essentially a six-axle chassis with a pneumatically raised second steering axle and singe drive axle), the 6x2 taglift (a six-axle chassis with a pneumatically raised second non-powered rear axle) and the big ones in the game: the classic 6x4 and the 8x4 midlift (a four-axle unit with a pneumatically raised second steering axle and two drive axles, generally used for heavy haul work, although in game, many players uses the 8x4 for general freight duties anyway!)
That's all for now, can't wait for the next episode. Oh, BTW, if need help with any aspect of ETS 2, try to get in touch with UA-camrs like #ParkeraNZ and #ZillaBlitzSecondGear, they've played the game (as well as ATS) for quite some time.

  • @PsychoMan
    @PsychoMan 10 місяців тому +1

Trucks are like that because of length restrictions, 16.5m for semi trailer and 18.75m for rigid + trailer. So trucks are short to comply with those lengths and tight roads.Technically you wouldnt be able to drive American trucks with a trailer unless it's one where you don't reach the length.
Also most semi tractors if not to old are all automatic, and most rigid trucks if mainly local are with shifter.

Rain sensor is a thing irl
Most trucks with the exception of Daf which offer a manual gearbox. Most trucks offer a 12 speed auto gearbox
Scania gearbox is an automatic 12 speed (I drive one on ets which is an R450)
Max length of a hgv (heavy goods vehicle) is 60ft unless on low loaders which is something else all together.
Trucks in the UK and Europe are auto.
Trucks for London are fitted with a DVS where it says vehicle turning left. Stay lane 1 (inside lane) unless over taking. Max speed is 56mph

    Scania manual.
Imagine H pattern shifter but only 4 holes with 3 speed low range with splitter and 3 speed in high range with splitter, so basically making it 12 gear transmission.
    Range dwn.
    Left and up R
    Left and down 1
    Right up 2
    Right dwn 3
    Range UP
    Left down 4th
    Right up 5th
    Right down 6th
As well you have fast R
All gears have splitter like in 18 EATON.

Basic traffic rules (slow lane, fast lane) are exactly the same as LHD traffic, except they are inverted for RHD traffic. You wouldnt have to worry as only UK uses RHD traffic.
The roads are real narrow, but would be interesting if you port over an American truck here.

SCS UK is rather outdated, best thing would be to use ProMods. In terms of driving in the UK, just reverse what you would do in the US. Instead of driving on the right, drive on the left, slower vehicles stay left. No turns on reds. Most European trucks are automatics.

We use Cab-overs in Europe for the same reason they used to be used in the US. Our legislation measures max vehicle length including the Truck and trailer. So to max the trailer size you need to min the truck length. Bull noses came back in the US because the legislation changed to trailer length only. Also in the UK we drive on the correct side of the road, that is the left. In Europe they are so stupid they drive on the right. Hence why you're in the UK with a right hand drive truck. It's easy to work out. you drive on the side of the road where the driving side is on the far side of the lane to make it easier to see when overtaking as anyone who drives a left hand drive vehicle in the UK or Japan will attest to. As an aside note Japan drives on the left for the same reason as we do in the UK. It goes back to the middle ages. Most people are right handed. So riding on the left meant you could defend yourself from other riders on the road. A no brainier really which is why the rest of Europe and the world don't do it, not smart enough. 🤣
