  • This Brabo Choke is a fantastic option from the Full Guard in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu.
The Brabo Grip itself is excellent for posture and Full Guard control. And it leads to numerous sweeps and submissions.
I often show the Brabo grip early on to my White Belts because it's strength can often be helpful for a newcomer to BJJ who wouldn't mind a little added control.
In this video I'm not going off a viewer request. Instead, I wanted to simply show you a nice Brazilian Jiujitsu technique that might be useful for your game.
As you'll see in the video. I show the basics of how to open up the Gi to achieve the grip. Then discuss how to setup the choke or use it for positional dominance.
I hope that the technique helps you with your Full Guard submission game in BJJ.

Could you do this with a T-shirt? Say you put your fingers in their collar, then with your other hand, pull the bottom of the shirt up and bunch it up with the rest of the collar... Would it offer the same kind of control?

I remember watching Alabama football team under Coach Bear Bryant, and they ran the wishbone offense and wore tearaway jerseys. I can see where a "tear away gi lapel" would be useful, lolol!!

I’m trying this a lot at the moment (my coach showed us a similar version). But I can never get the lapel out properly, I don’t know how the hell you do it when the guy is resisting.

Hi Chewy, I'm a 36 year old who wants to start jiujitsu, but I had a gym accident a couple of years ago which has resulted in a weak knee ligament that acts up on cold days and whatnot. What should I do? Should I stop thinking about starting jiujitsu? Thanks.

Nice video as usual. It works against a bigger and stronger opponent? I'd like to choke a big guy at the gym that sometimes goes heavy on rolling.

So here's a question for chewy and the community here.
Last week in judo class I tryed a new counter throw thst I learned on my training brother. I didn't do it correctly and I hurt his knee. Today I found out that its possibly a torn ACL. He may be out for 3 to 12 months. I feel terrible and have apologized many times. He is very nice about it and is not making me feel guilty over it.
He is a great training partner and great guy. I learned many things from him. I feel terrible that my mistake hurt him. What should I do?
