I absolutely love Jet Wan and his Wing Chun. One area that I'm concerned about is the stopping of the strong hook with a tan that most sifus utilize of which I have questioned. The tan will not be able to stop a full force hook being thrown by an attacker that wants to take your head off.

Wing Chun instructors I've seen would agree with you. You don't just put up the tan and wait for the hook with how they taught. Rather you step into them with it and catch the hook as it starts if you can. Ideally you don't simply block either. When you can its attack and defense, so even if you can't time your block right or something, try and land a good hit to the head first, and hopefully that'll be enough to remove the focus from the hook.
But taking any full force full body hit with a block is bad. No blocking roundhouse kicks with the forearm or anything. You either have to move into the strike so it's before the main area of power, or move away so the strike is recovering from the main area of power. In a lot of cases when dealing with full power blows, the blocks are more like wedges to stop the motion prematurely or covers just to make sure you don't get hit on the tail end. Footwork is what really matters but most people just want to show the hands.

Your not going to stop a hook with the tan sau

I agree. Jet Wan is clearly awesome so maybe there is something we are missing. But forearm needs be the opposite way around with preferably and elbow out round structure to take the hook. I think it can be done with the elbow in but the forearm definitely needs to be facing the other way to make use of the springy structure in the arms.

It can work if you throw the hook at the crook of the arm, however I believe most wsl practitioners use the fook instead because it is stronger than the tan

I beg to differ in that these conceptual hand arm utilizations could readily be adapted to ground fighting

GET THESE TYPES OF FIGHTERS ONTO THE GROUND. THEY WOULDN'T KNOW WHAT TO DO THEN. THESE PUNCHES WOULD BE USELESS. ON THE GROUND, YOU PUT YOUR TEETH ON THEIR NECK AND BITE THEIR WIND PIPE OUT. POKE THEIR EYES OUT WITH YOUR FINGERS AND PUNCH THEM IN THE MIDDLE OF THE TOP OF THEIR HEAD. YOU HAVE ONE DEAD WING CHUN MAN.IN COMBAT YOU KILL OR BE KILLED.

I agree with gouging and no holds barred tactics I merely state the hand fluidity and interchangeable elements could be used in grappling as indeed I believe wing chun has a grappling tradition within its structure

perhaps but pretty much everyone is busted if a really good grappler takes them to the ground. the trick is to keep from being taken down in the first place, say by knocking the guy out with a straight punch or busing their knee with a kick
