You guys need to do more of these types of crossovers. Whether you're doing straight-up retrospectives like this or some sort of comedic throwaway. Love you guys!
Watching Game Sack is why I discovered Ys. They are also how I discovered this channel. Love all your Ys videos and I'm glad you and Joe were able to get me into the series.
'Ys the Oath in Felghana' & 'Ys Origin' are my two favorite Ys games. They are master pieces. Great graphics, great gameplay, great stories & fantastic music. They are an absolutely must play for any Ys fan. 'Ys the Vanished Omens' on the MasterSystem was my first Ys game I ever played. I was an extremely little kid at the time but remember it fondly. I was really excited to play Books 1 & 2 when I was older to finally finish the story of Vanished Omens. Especially on PSP.
Been playing the Napishtim engine games this month. So far, Oath is just off. Enemies and bosses don't feel good to fight, dungeons are too long and the story is just alright. Much prefer Ark and Origin over it. But I'll wait til I beat it to really compare.
I love your Ys videos. It's so awesome to see someone who loves the series as much as myself. I originally found your channel a while back while looking for Ys videos. Great job, keep up the great work!
My first Ys-experience was about 10 years ago when I downloaded Turbografx-CD-version of Ys Book I & II from Wii's Virtual Console. It was Christmas, and when the opening(s) started playing my life basically changed. Can you believe that a game from very late 80s early 90s could make such an impact for a kid who were playing mostly modern 3D-games at the time? I can only imagine how it felt for people who experienced Ys years and years back. I'm glad to say that while the game's content is definitely aged, the experience itself, the presentation/artistic decisions and polish (even compared to PSP-remake)/soundtrack/design choices (not all of them!) and boss battles etc. were still top-notch. The year was 2008. It blew people away "back then" but, I assure you, Ys Book I & II is still pure gold.
Wow it's like my dream come true! So cool to see this collaboration between you too. I'm a massive fan of both channels and of course everything that is Ys
The Japanese version of Ys 6 on PS2 was exactly the same with CG cutscenes and the code to add the original ones back. I own the Japanese version, it wasn't a change for the USA.
OMG that tune at 2:37 the ruined city of kishgal I'll never forget the first time I went through this area in the game.. So atmospheric. Ark of napishtim Ost is one of my favorite ys soundtracks :>
I bought y's viii back in november and absolutely loved it didn't mind the translation at all one of my favourites games last year. The soundtrack blew me away.
Two of the fabulous five retro gaming channels! Metal Jesus Rocks, AVGN and CGQ the other three. Thanks guys for bringing back our childhood with your amazing videos. 👏🏻
This is awesome. Ys was the reason I've found your channel. There's no other placer with so much love about this saga like this. Keep on the good work, and happy new year!
Ya know what would be a frickin' BAD New Years special? A FULL livestream of your annual New Years DnD game!!! Not sure if you did it this year, but I just started a campaign with some friends from work. This would be AWESOME.
I love that you are giving more attention to the Y's series, it's a very great and underrated one. I actually started the series with the DS version of 1/2, but it was Ark of napishtm that drove my addiction to the series... Probably my favorite one. I love gamesack! and made sure to subscibe to Happy console gamer.
Totally unexpectedly became a huge Y's fan this Christmas. I bought Y's VI on steam not thinking much of it and it got me HOOKED man. I have a trick for remembering the pronounciation btw. In an old English lady's voice I think "that Tim's feeling a bit napish." I'm not sure if English people say "napish" but it feels right. Anyhow that's how I get it: "Napish-Tim" I'm a bit stuck grinding at the end 30 hours into VI but I went ahead and bought I & II, the VI's remake (Felghana) and Y's Origin. Will definitely get Lacrimosa of Dana after all of that. Phenomenal series. Loved this video.
6:30 ark of napishtim was my introduction to the Ys series definitely a good game and then i went back and ayed all the other ones :> I can highly recommend this one to new players starting to get into Ys.
I picked up Ys Origins on the Steam sale because of you, and MAN have I missed out. Immediately ordered the Special Edition for Ys VIII before it would sell out, because this is definitely a series I will love. I heard Origins isn't even the peak of the series!!!
My first Ys was Wanderers from Ys, SNES Version....My stepdad got it for me that Christmas....We played like hell all weekend, never beat it though...Loved it till I eventually lost-sold it...now I play Ys alot...lots of nostalgia there for me.
Great video. I also purchased the turbo CD attachment when it first came out. I bought Ys Book 1 & 2 connected it to the stereo and was blown away... Been a fan of the series ever since.
Fun conversation and thanks for sharing. I never had issue pronouncing Ys because, somehow, I first found out about Ys from TV. I don't know if it was featured on a show or if it was an ad for the Turbo CD.
I never even heard of YS until watching your show Johnny, but after I watched one of your episodes about it I went and played Books 1&2 and fell in love, ive since played most of the games and must thank you for introducing me to such a great series!
in Ys vi once you enter the Sacrament Door the Ark actually says " I manage the weather for the entire Atlas Ocean. Weather Control systems Napishtim." this is where you hear it enunciate the name.
Great video Johnny and guest Joe from Gamesack! Always look forward to any videos involving Ys! Hopefully one day you can cover Falcom's other big franchise, The Legend of Heroes!
I first heard of ys on the msx2 platform, unfortunately at the time I didn't have a high density drive as it was only available on 720k disks. So I missed the chance of being blown away at the time (I believe it was 1989).
Thanks. My game to play list is so long. I have never played a Ys game. I am pretty sure a friend gave me one of them for the master system. I may have to check it out. One day....
I played Ys3 for SNES and fell in love with the music so much so, that i used the cheat that allowed you to change the music in game to any song just so i could listen to my fav track, the shop music, over and over. I forgot the series for a while until I heard that there would be a remake of 3 on PSP with a soundtrack cd and preordered the special edition. the soundtrack was fully redone in rock and is easily one of my all time favorite soundtracks ever made (thought it was missing my fav song). i became a huge fan of the JDK sound team at Falcom and bought up every game in the series i didnt have and just recently went out of my way to get the physical copy of Origins. I also special ordered the Anime you mentioned because it had a really cheezy 80s style music video for "to make the end of battle" that was so awesome to watch the guy actually play the guitar with the insane riffs lol
same with my fave, Memories of Celceta T_T (Johnny never talks about that one, but it's a very good game) and also Oath in Felghana. Oh well, they still covered a hell of a lot of 'em
I already finished YS 8 (with one trophy away from platinum) was awesome, great RPG with fast-paced and easy to learn combat system, coz of you i'm into YS thanks,, also got Ys I & II Chronicles(psp) i'll start playing it soon.
Great video. I experienced my first Ys game on PSP with the port of Ys VI, and since then I played all the games of the serie on PSP and VITA. Anyone who like action rpg need to play Ys VIII!
I recently just picked up Ys VII out of the blue and my god I fell in love with that game and the series, just finished ys 1 and bought all available ys games on pc
Great way to start off the new year johnny.Talking to joe of game sack about the Ys series. To this day,TG16 version of Ys 1&2 is still my favorite one.Sure it's sequels, have out done it in terms of game play but those have yet to capture of the magic of Ys 1&2.By the way i still need to buy Ys 8 and play that one.
My first RPG was Ys Vanished Omens on Sega Master System. Loved it but could not finish it. Finally finished it last year after figuring out what to do with the hammer! One of my favourite games on the Sega Master System. Such nostalgia
I just got several Ys games on sale on Steam, I'm going to start playing through them soon. I only played a little Ys 3 for SNES years ago, it's a fairly obscure RPG series that not a lot of pepole got to play.
What!! No love for Ys Origin? My first Ys game was Ys 3 on the SNES and I enjoyed it a lot that so when I saw that the TurboDuo included Ys 1 & 2 I preordered the system. Ys 1 & 2 blew me away too, I was 13 or 14 at the time (remember that time when kids could get jobs - paper route and fast food). I actually imported Ys IV in the days, there was a mail order catalog just for TG-16 games. When you talked about the old lady blocking you that brought up a lot of memories. I never finished the game. This year I went back playing some of the older Ys games on the PC. I can't wait for Ys VIII to be released on the PC (hopefully soon). Great video to start the New Years!!!
Check out game SACK if you haven't heard of them. Very down to earth pair of guys. Watch their UA-cam parody episode where they make fun if alot of UA-cam channels
shocking admission from me being an anime and RPG fan ive never played Ys i never knew about it growing up i cannot wait to play them for the first time.
Great segment, man!! I love this stuff!! 19:51 - what IS the Y's formula? A guy with red hair? Action RPG? Top-down camera? One character party? I'm not sure anymore.
Ark of Naphistim was the first of the series for me and it went south after that with I & II on DS lol. I did actually finally play the TG16 version when it was released on Wii Virtual Console though.
With the trend of how Ys game mechanics come and go, we are due for a change up, so I wonder if Falcom will stick with the 3 party member switching or what, since the formula is working for them. I hope they drop it, personally. I liked it for Seven, Celceta, and Lacrimosa, but time for Adol and Dogi to blaze a new path! >:D
why didnt you guys talk about the pc remake of ys 3 "oath in felgahna" which was awesome or the bullet hell game ys origin. those are both amazing titles and never talked about. if you did mention them im sorry i must have missed it. :)
I bought Ys Books 1&2 in so many formats including the Master System, Turbo Grafx, DS, and Steam. I also bought Ys Origins which I do like a lot but I'm stuck on a boss... I recently live streamed on Twitch Ys Book 1 off the Wii VC. I plan on doing more Ys live streams.
also played ys ark of napishtim. By the way...the ark at the end of ys vi actually says its own name during its arming sequence... NUH PISH(as in fish) TIM...
I remember wanting this game the last couple years but the price was high and I rarely could ever catch it on sale. But back in December 2019 it was 30 bucks so i got the game and let me tell you: I was not disappointed. Not since Persona 5 that I played a RPG game so much that I didn't want the game to end. I took my time with it and completely finished it today! Definitely a game that put me in my feels. Loved the twists and turns of the stories. One surprise after another. Loved the characters, especially Dana. Wished that there was another outcome for her though. Loved the music especially! The best I've heard from a game in years! YS VIII was the first game of the series ive played. And i'm an instant fan. But as i look back on past YS games on youtube, they do't really interest me much to play them. This one is my definite favorite! I wish there was an extra DLC story content for this game and I wish there was a real animated series for this one! I even wish that Adol was a DLC character for Smash and the stage and music can be from YS VIII!
Wow! Clash of titans! hauhauhua. Thanks for this video, i´m a huge fan of your channel and Game Sack too! Here in Brazil was hard to find games like Ys because when i was young we had only Mega Drive (Genesis) and Super Nintendo. A lot of japanese games didn´t come. Hopefully emulators saved the day and now this industry has been developed in my country. Not as much a i like, but is better than before. Ys still hard to find, very hard to find T_T. Even many youtubers here talking about old game they don´t have the experience that you have. We had US Mangá for example, but not as much as you had in Canada. Watching you and Game Sack make me very happy because this kind of stuff (movies, games and old school anime) i just enjoyed in low resolution or only a few episodes on my computer. Internet here was so fucking prehistoric. I remember waiting a hole week only to watch one episode of Macross (Robotech), Cowboy Bebop and Trigun. Still talking about Ys... I had played on a emulator exactly Ys: The Ark of Napishtim. Was love for the first sight! It´s a game so simplistic, Adol is brave, and heroic. The action is frenetic and the soundtrack is phenomenal! This game is the truly mean of the word adventure. Well, thats it. Thank for the video and i ll be waiting for you guys. Until next time!
Thanks for having me on Johnny! This came out great! Long live Ys!
Long live Ys!
Thank YOU for dropping in to HCG! Anyways, Joe, until next time.
You have to watch the anime sometime, it's pretty good.
Joe you're awesome, but, what happened to Dave?
You guys need to do more of these types of crossovers. Whether you're doing straight-up retrospectives like this or some sort of comedic throwaway.
Love you guys!
I love the Ys series.
I love the Happy Console Gamer
I love Game Sack.
Happy new year and I look forward to GOOD STUFF FROM ALL OF YOU THIS YEAR!
Watching Game Sack is why I discovered Ys.
They are also how I discovered this channel. Love all your Ys videos and I'm glad you and Joe were able to get me into the series.
Joe is a straight G and real Sega man. Happy New Years youse two!
Your onscreen presence and energy and interview skills are just so refreshing. I love it
This was real good. Have a great new year.
Ys is the best
Gamesack is a must follow
We need more of these collaborations
Awesome! Love the border graphic so much. Great watch all round. Happy new Ys!
This Ys a good video.
Ys Get out.

Those are what got me into Ys, when they were fan translated back in 2010 & 2011. My favorites as well.

Ys 8 on the switch is my first Ys game and I'm absolutely loving it.

I own the Japanese version, it wasn't a change for the USA.
Two great UA-cam channels collaborating keep up the awesome work 👊
Over the past year, I've gotten into the Ys series thanks to Johnny and Game Sack. Big thanks, I love it!

I really love it when games have those kinds of actors. I strongly wish most anime had those kinds of actors.
I never played Y's in my life, but listening you guys talk about it with such passion is great!
Yes! This was the perfect Ys-y start to my New Year :)
Thanks for the effort Johnny, here’s hoping we all have a great year!
Happy Console Gamer, Game Sack and CUPodcast are my favourite gaming shows!!! Keep the good job!!!
This right here, is the cure for my hangover hahaha.
Loved the video Johnny! I really need to go back and play the older games, but Ys VIII was fantastic. Definitely an underrated gem of 2017.
This is awesome. Ys was the reason I've found your channel. There's no other placer with so much love about this saga like this. Keep on the good work, and happy new year!

No hangover here, quit the beer and blow awhile ago!!!
What a great collaboration. Love me some Game Sack as well as HCG.
Love this collaboration.
Great video. I also purchased the turbo CD attachment when it first came out. I bought Ys Book 1 & 2 connected it to the stereo and was blown away... Been a fan of the series ever since.
New years Ys special with Joe (Mama); the guy doesn't age.
Fun conversation and thanks for sharing. I never had issue pronouncing Ys because, somehow, I first found out about Ys from TV. I don't know if it was featured on a show or if it was an ad for the Turbo CD.
GameSack and HappyConsoleGamer started this year with a nice special
Rob and Dave should make a sequel to this video. Lol. Thanks for this guys!
Having them together would be too much sexual tension! I run a family show, sorta..
See how 2018 is becoming!? Pure Awesomeness!!
I never even heard of YS until watching your show Johnny, but after I watched one of your episodes about it I went and played Books 1&2 and fell in love, ive since played most of the games and must thank you for introducing me to such a great series!

Feliz 2018! Muy buen episodio! Sigan asi! Saludos desde Argentina
I first heard of ys on the msx2 platform, unfortunately at the time I didn't have a high density drive as it was only available on 720k disks. So I missed the chance of being blown away at the time (I believe it was 1989).
JACKPOT!✊. My two favorite channels doing a joint video. Well done.
Hope you have a great 2018 Johnny, looking forward to more of your vids!
I’m playing through 8 at the moment and it’s such a awesome game
A HappyConsoleGamer episode on New Ys day is good! An episode featuring Joe is better! All the best in 2018! :)
You too my childhood console!
As an Ys fan this was an awesome video to watch! Thanks guys :)
I'm sorry if I missed it, but, why the hell did they not talk about Ys Origin?! It's my all time favorite Ys game!
Next year!
same with my fave, Memories of Celceta T_T (Johnny never talks about that one, but it's a very good game) and also Oath in Felghana. Oh well, they still covered a hell of a lot of 'em
I never hear of this series. I'll check it out
I’m half way through Ys2 on the turbo grafx! Really love it :D
I already finished YS 8 (with one trophy away from platinum) was awesome, great RPG with fast-paced and easy to learn combat system,
coz of you i'm into YS thanks,, also got Ys I & II Chronicles(psp) i'll start playing it soon.
Ys 1 & 2 PSP versions are definitely the best versions. I played that version on Steam and it was amazing.
ty for telling me your opinion about Ys 1&2 coz haven't played it yet,, Awesome :D
Thank you for this vid guys.
Great video. I experienced my first Ys game on PSP with the port of Ys VI, and since then I played all the games of the serie on PSP and VITA. Anyone who like action rpg need to play Ys VIII!
Happy Console Gamer and Gamesack, a dream collaboration.
Joe looks so old in this. Cool to see these guys together.
I recently just picked up Ys VII out of the blue and my god I fell in love with that game and the series, just finished ys 1 and bought all available ys games on pc

Happy New Year Johnny! Keep the good stuff coming for 2018.
I just got several Ys games on sale on Steam, I'm going to start playing through them soon. I only played a little Ys 3 for SNES years ago, it's a fairly obscure RPG series that not a lot of pepole got to play.
You guys are getting me hyped up to get back into playing Ys on the PSP.
Game Sack and Johnny fuck yeah!
shocking admission from me being an anime and RPG fan ive never played Ys i never knew about it growing up i cannot wait to play them for the first time.
Try 8!
You record a month in advance?! That's admirable. Great Ys-cast, especially for someone new to the series.
Great segment, man!! I love this stuff!!
19:51 - what IS the Y's formula? A guy with red hair? Action RPG? Top-down camera? One character party? I'm not sure anymore.
I really enjoyed this video. Happy New Year Johnny!
Two of the best games channels on the web.
Upvoting for Joe's MSX!
Holy crap! hadn't seen that. good eye! I'm sooooo gonna savour that Game Sack MSX episode. whenever they upload it, it'll be a treat!
They should include Ys I-III on the MSX in that episode.
Great episode guys! Y'all helped me decide which Ys game to try next.
Happy New Years! And may there be more Ys to come!
Ark of Naphistim was the first of the series for me and it went south after that with I & II on DS lol. I did actually finally play the TG16 version when it was released on Wii Virtual Console though.
Great episode guys! I've never seen the Anime but its on my list of things to do before I die. Y's book 1&2 is the best Y's then Y'S VIII.
my first video ive watched of you was the ys video. glad youre making another one

This the video I need to watch to get to start the Ys 8 game after shelfing it.
why didnt you guys talk about the pc remake of ys 3 "oath in felgahna" which was awesome or the bullet hell game ys origin. those are both amazing titles and never talked about. if you did mention them im sorry i must have missed it.
I thought there was some legit beef between you two from the Lets Make a UA-cam Show parody so I'm glad to see this :)
I have played through Ys 1-4 back to back a few months ago and Ys III, for some reason, was my favourite.
also played ys ark of napishtim. By the way...the ark at the end of ys vi actually says its own name during its arming sequence... NUH PISH(as in fish) TIM...

Ys 3 TGCD was my first CD ever. Great sound track!
