    I guess Eva wasn't acting on _Green Acres_. She really is like that in person.

    Gene Rayburn was a such a ham! He should have been a stand-up comedian and/or an impressionist. He made us laugh so much on that show; but at the same time, he was a classy gentleman. I also liked the way he jokingly mocked Eva Gabor's Hungarian accent.
    It's a shame that we don't have an Allen Ludden, a Gene Rayburn, a Bill Cullen, a Bert Convy, a Dick Clark, or a Monty Hall today. They were all classy gentlemen.

      Mocking people’s accents wasn’t his finest hour.

    And it was in 1978 that Eva's biggest fan (that's me of course) celebrated her 21st birthday right there in Los Angeles.

    Just so we all know, Richard's worst moments on Match Game 78 start with: #1166-1195. For some reason, #1196-1215, Richard is much more upbeat. He smiles and actually takes part in more things. MGPM #117 is a real eye opener. Watch how much Richard is smiling this episode. Did Ira Skutch say something to Richard? Why is he more friendly during these episodes. The worst moments again are: #1261-1285. Richard is OK from #1216-1260. #1227 he cracks some jokes!

      He did start to gradually interact more again by 1191-95. He smiles a lot more there. PM 115 is another interesting one. He seems a bit happier there too. 1231-40 are the best of the 'OK' episodes.

      I have noticed that around the start of 1977, Johnny Olson would start to plug the panelists' television shows. He would say things like: "from _Happy Days_, Anson Williams", "from _The Bob Newhart Show_, Marcia Wallace", etc. Yet, he would rarely plug _Family Feud_. Johnny even did this for actors who were on ABC and NBC shows. Do you think this might have pissed off Dawson?

      Perhaps he knew the end was near so he started smiling again?

      I actually think that there's a few of these episodes where Richard might be feeling a little bit under the weather. He doesn't look like his usual self. His eyes seem puffy and even his skin colour doesn't look like it usually does. At the very least, I would guess that he's exhausted. Sometimes we need to remind ourselves that celebrities are people too and that they can have bad days. I think Richard Dawson was a wonderful man and I hate seeing people write negative stuff about him. He had a good heart and truly cared about trying to help the contestants win!

    1500 to have a baby in '78 ? Geez. In 1992 ours was $20,000+ for everything. Wish healthcare was that cheap today.

    MatchGameProductions You know what's weird though? I checked out PM 115 which was shot during the tapings of MG78 1186-1190 and he seems very 'up' in this episode for some peculiar reason yet I saw 1187 and he still seemed a bit withdrawn.

    At this point what it was, was Richard Dawson was simply weary doing both Match Game and Family Feud at the same time. I personally think if the producers had given him an occasional week off from time to time, and did not add the Big Wheel, he might've stuck around.

      Because she was a stupid, lazy thing, plus she was always half loaded, & she thought she was such a comedian, & always wanted the camera on her !!

    Lange-Nelson, round 2, question B: "Between the EARS, of course!" (Ding!)
    Question A: "No, Santa trains his reindeer better than that; they just left HOOFPRINTS." (Bzzt!)
    (And now we either imagine another of those Narnian tiebreakers, or pretend that I'd swapped positions between episodes with someone who matched Linda in round 1, and thus didn't actually give that last answer at all.)
    Super Match, part 1: CHANCE
    Part 2: CHAIN
    Lange-Myzeck, round 1, question A: "I took the cause-and-effect approach: you wind him up, and he tells you what a LIMP WRIST you have." (Bzzt!)
    Question B: "You folks know about the Pinto yet? She kept EXPLODING." (Bzzt!)
    Round 2, question B: "It's a thankless job, keeping this show semi-clean. LIPS!" (Bzzt!)

    if eva and david said teeth, how did the contestant get 5 matches?

    • @MWRUSSELL1
      @MWRUSSELL1 9 років тому

      revinevan87 Eva's answer didn't count one way or the other because whomever occupied the 4th slot in the previous episode matched that contestant in the first round.

    • @revinevan87
      @revinevan87 9 років тому +1

      oh, so she filled out a card even though she wasn't supposed to? just for fun.

    • @MWRUSSELL1
      @MWRUSSELL1 9 років тому

      Yes, my take on it is that she was a tad confused as to why she didn't need to play, so they just went with it and let her show her answer, even though it didn't count. The daytime game wasn't structured like the nighttime game was, so an episode could end at any point in the game, and in this case it ended in between rounds with a different crew of stars taking over (at least in slots 1, 4 & 6, as 2, 3, & 5 were regulars!)

    I would have fired Dawson after a few pouty episodes. He was willing to throw over the show for his ego, which is why he never got another series after FF.

    Bob Crane was murdered in 1978, I wonder if that had anything to do with his depressed state?

    • @hardestyrl
      @hardestyrl 4 роки тому +2

      Bob Crane's murder had nothing to do with Richard's sour mood on Match Game 78 in general. Not because Richard was uncaring or unfeeling, but because Bob was still alive while Richard filmed Match Game episodes.
      Bob was murdered on June 29, 1978. Per the Match Game episode guide, this show was taped on February 19, 1978, and Richard's final shows were taped on June 25, 1978.

    I think that Dawson was a good panelist but it get boring as they always pick him if I had been a contestant and won more then once I would have picked a different panelists each time to give a bit of variety and due to the fact that 98% chosen Dawson I would have picked somebody else like Brett or Charles to give them a chance

      I liked how for a while they had the rule where the contestant couldn't pick the same person two times in a row for Super Match. I don't know why they got rid of that. (It was only that way for like a month.)

  • @Werewolf0216
    @Werewolf0216 10 років тому +2

    It seems rather selfish and egotistical if Richard was so slighted by introduction of the big wheel. At times it seems it went to his head when he'd tell contestants "why didn't you pick me/my answer?" How did he think his colleagues may have felt rarely getting an opportunity to match a contestant, yet even so they still acted in good spirits show after show. We don't know that other panelists might have had just as good of a matching record as him had they gotten the chance (assuming a contestant would never pick Joyce Bulifant or Patti Deutsch ha ha!) To pout when your job is a celebrity working on a game show...wow.

    • @Werewolf0216
      @Werewolf0216 10 років тому +3

      Also consider that Richard's matching during the contestant-to-contestant match wasn't any better than the others and during audience match he was usually called on first giving him the opportunity to say the top answer before the others.

      Just wanna remind you this is a pre-wheel episode. This is episode 1181. The wheel didn't debut til 1246 so to say his attitude began to sour because of the wheel isn't enough. From what's been gathered he was enjoying his success on family feud and wanted out of his contract. When they refused he responded by withdrawing himself. Combine that with the wheel introduction led to a very unhappy looking Richard on MG yet he acted fine on FF. He would also comment in his 2010 interview with EMMYTV Legends that he grew disenchanted with the content of the questions on MG.

      crissrudd4554 Charles called him out during the MG74 boob's episode "he'll do anything for his own show".
      Richard hounded Mark Goodson for his own show. Richard could have been more mature about leaving MG for sure IMO.

    • @crissrudd4554
      @crissrudd4554 9 років тому +2

      Well can't really blame him. Ira Skutch by this point had been trying to down play Richards role in MG to appease the jealousy held over Richard by the other panelists. This eventually led to the addition of the Star Wheel. So to an extent I don't blame Richard for acting as he did especially when Family Feud had become a hit and he wanted to move on. Sure on a professional level his attitude was wrong but I get him feeling offended.

      @@crissrudd4554 Your explanation matches quite well what Richard Dawson said about this matter during his Foundations of Television interview.
