Pete probably has more "studio knowledge" of any popular artist ever in the history of rock music. In the DVD about the making of "Who's Next," esteemed producer Glyn Johns said that in the early 70's synths were almost impossible to program, and Pete could work them better then world class engineers could. If you have ever heard his demos of Who songs....especially from 1970 onward, they are so good that you swear an entire band was playing at the same time. The guy is a genius.
I love Pete, though Todd Rundgren certainly has as much studio knowledge as any "popular artist" ever has. At least. They are both musical geniuses, to be sure.
In my view, Pete Townshend has never really received the recognition he deserves, as a pioneer of “serious” home recording. His home studio around the turn of the 70s, could outmatch quite a few “pro” studios in the UK at the time.
This is how it's done. You make a quality piece of equipment, one that gets noticed by the likes of Pete Townshend, then you get that person to show , with real enthusiasm, how the equipment works. Then everyone wins. One of the best adverts ive seen, Pete takes this advert to another level. 24 groups? That is a lot! Good stuff. Okay Audient, you win. I shall visit your website now.
He is the reason why we picked up a guitar, wrote a song, joined a band, dedicated our life to music. He is the reason why I know what I know today. Thanks Mr Townsend.
The outstanding Pete Townsend. The real deal. Fantastic and very moving music. Quadrophenia. Empty Glass. Need a resume need anything else? HIRED! WELCOME TO THE FIRM! HAVE A CIGAR!

And Glyn Johns praised the quality of Pete's demos in that interview...he always asked himself, "How can I improve this?" Genius indeed!
