5/4 is somehow very depressing

- Upon doing a song in 9/8, it was suggested I do something in 5/4 because its equally if not more confusing
I made a chord progression, booted up a random pad, and it sounded super sad but it was pretty inspiring idea-wise so I made a song out of it.
Pretty repetitive and unrefined (I made it in 2 hours) but considering how the song is I think I can get away with it being a little sloppy and pass it off as "intentionally distorted" lmaoo
the drums are straight out of a 2000's horror game
The beginning reminds me of a song that I'm unable to remember...
Is it At The River by Groove Armada? That's what I hear.
Ever so vaguely reminds me of Child in Us by Enigma, but that is a bit clearer and lighter. I swear I’ve heard this too before…

Nice. I like odd time signatures because I tend to get a fun vibe from them, almost like how 3/4 and 6/8 tend to feel more "free" than 4/4, but compounded to the scale of the signature. I'm not really confused by much, and 5/4 is included in "much", but I belive youve made great use of it. Honestly this song feels more bittersweet to me than sad, due to the "free" feeling I mensioned earlier, and because the major chords feel somewhat hopeful to me. Anyways, on the topic of odd time signatures, perhaps you could try out 7/4 next? (I know im a month late but to be fair I literally just found this channel. Cut me some slack) It's my current favorite time signature, mainly because I feel like it has a lot of potential for interesting rhythmic lines, but isn't too complex for my tastes.

7/4 sounds a bit daunting but when I'm in the mood for funky time signature compositions (provided I don't forget lol) I'll definitely try it out ;)
if it seems daunting to you, just be happy I didn't ask for something like 17/8, though I might if you ever end up getting comfortable enough with rhythm shenanigans.
