Im itching to get the Delta Pro! Best of the best!
$3,400!!!! Is this thing made of solid gold? How the hell could Ecoflow justify that price? I highly highly doubt it would be costing Ecoflow $2k+ for manufacturing cost of this small tracker. The price is absolutely insane. Maybe if it was around $1500 I would consider.
instead of investing in a bulky tracker like this, you can invest in another set of solar panel to compensate the energy lost, you get the safety of redundancy on the go , and you might even get more juice.
Thats how I did it.
I have 4 panels facing he morning sun, and 5 facing the afternoon sun.
with 9 panels, I even get trickle charging when its overcast out.
Amazing how your never fail to show us something unique and different.
This thing reminds me of those Rovers on Mars.
I appreciate that, for some reason when I look at it without a panel it reminds me of those russian missle launchers they used in the back of vans.
I'd totally buy the tracker if they sold it on it's own. I'm not in the market for the big stuff but that solar tracker is impressive. I have been planning to DIY one.
It’s $2400
At the price of it, you would be far better off just buying several more panels and setting them so they each catch the sun at different parts of the day.
Learn C++ language, Arduino Nano or ESP82 component and build yours for 50 to 100 $ (including electric motors or servo motors) and 2 weeks of conception is far better than paid this price.
@@DGDG0000000 Hell, I would skip the C++ and just use directional photo sensors and opamps to build my logic for position control,
But that would still be clunky as hell to get the motor rig set up and would likely still be better served with just a few firmly mounted solar panels faced different direction doing a parallel feed to the power buss.
@@DGDG0000000 Do you have a design? I would like to build something like that but I only see projects for tiny solar trackers and I'm not sure how hard it is to scale up the designs.
I think buying an extra panel is way cheaper and more efficient than buying a solar tracker.
Agreed.
i have a inergy flex and batteries coming next week , I think I might sell or return for this unit ( eco flow delta pro) .
Its too noisy and goes against Opsec. A loud solar tracker defeats the purpose of a silent solar generator. In SHTF when the power goes out, the loud mechanical noise would attract desperate, unprepared people. Ex: Texas and Puerto Rico.
That is true but as panels like this one I used here the Ecoflow 400 watt get more energy dense, a tracker with a single panel becomes more attractive. I am impressed that they even made this, I am sure they know they won't sell a ton but like Tesla it's nice that they are breaking some new ground
@@SilverCymbal Is it possible to use 3 solar trackers and connect three 400W panels to the Delta Pro?
Always brining us cool ideas and gadgets - thanks! 👍 Now, if only I knew how to make my house use that energy 🤔
I like the small solar tracker and the small array it uses. Everything else is already in the commercial market. As a camping unit it looks convenient for solar charging. Also remote off the grid living would find it useful.
I bought 1,360 watts of generic solar panels for about $1/watt. Hooked up in 2S2P, they provide just under 80 volts and 20 amps. These more than easily provide 800 watts to my Ecoflow Max across the day, even during overcast conditions, not being properly angled and/or slight shade without being moved. Far cheaper than the solar tracker that only holds a 400 watt panel. I could get another 2 panels and it would still be cheaper and more resilient in a 2S3P setup.
That’s true. But the tracker offers portability and efficiency in bad solar conditions.
My wife asks me to stop watching your videos because you make it easy to want to buy something lol.
As ever, yours is my most helpful, (& interesting,) UA-cam subscription.
Very nice of you to say, thank you
The solar tracker is cool, but I feel like it needs to be able to mount more solar panels in the same general form factor to be worth the cost. If you could deploy 800w worth of highly efficient tracking panels in a mobile situation, in addition to your rooftop solar, that would be worth it given the small footprint. If your system is big enough to handle that much juice I don't think the cost for the tracker would be a major hurdle.
its 4500 dollars were i am
I could just build a bigger
system to compensate for the lack of tracking
Wow! Great video!
We have 20 solar panels on our roof for 15 years.
Wow! thats awesome
My doggy brings me treats!
Loved. This will be a great addition to our Electric Scooters world!!
Wow, with this setup its easy to be fully energy independent!
Just stumbled across your site & this video, absolutely clear, informative & very good audio & visual demonstration, I’m a new subscriber so keep up the fantastic work 10/10, your video has truly given me much food for thought now I’m seriously considering purchasing one of these units, ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This would be best for specific use scenarios, ie science expedition, military, reflecting sun off a mirror to explore a deep cave, or to concentrate solar heat on one spot using multiple trackers. When panels weren't as cheap, these were moar cost effective. There are cheaper permanent trackers available for home builds. There's even a DIY non powered design using hydraulic struts, which aim the panel by using the variable heat of the moving sun to expand and contract the struts. I think I read somewhere It doesn't really work, but his cat liked it. Look it up, maybe he listened to his cat and improved it.

have a good day
G
I seen a DIY design that is motor powered but it's simply controlled(automatically) by few wires with few small solar panels as both sensors and power source for the motor
Considering the outrageous cost for this, use your money to buy additional panels instead.
Yes but if they can get this cheap and for many panels on one motor in future it would be worth it. Just like telsa had to break ground and still isn't profiting yet. This kinda tech is always expensive and buggy at first and if works will mass produce and make them cheaper and better. But yes currently it's better buying a second panel instead of the tracker.

have a good day

Looking at Kickstarter if my math is correct the Solar Tracker is approximately
$2000.00 alone. It is really cool and has a good amount of features but as others have said
it is more economical to buy another panel. Ecoflow has been constantly innovating and I'm looking forward
to see what they come up with in the future.
Yeah, too bad they are not selling the Solar Tracker by itself.
But in an example like at the beginning where a house or trees cast a shadow, the solar tracker doesn’t help at all. It doesn’t have motorized wheels to run away from the shadow, so you still need to set it up in a big open area.
And if that’s the case anyway, then as everyone has mentioned, just get another panel, put them back to back or flat, and it’s probably cheaper and just as effective.
The Delta Max is so damn cool though 😛👌🏼👌🏼
This channel is great for the mind and terrible for the wallet.
Some great things are less than a good lunch: ua-cam.com/video/sjP3YUejNRU/v-deo.html
Free power...free electricity....as long as you don't include the cost of the solar panels and other equipment.
With hyperinflation they will pay for themselves. Also the Biden administration is planing to make electricity very expensive with regulations. It gets worse. The coming new financial system with tie our social credit score to our electricity usage.
You are basically using it for portability
I love this idea, but I want to go a little further. I want to have multiple arrays like this that can fold themselves up and lower into a concrete "bunker" with a storm door cover on it. That way it can defend itself against hurricanes in Florida and Puerto Rico etc.
Damnit SC, you're on my same wavelength. Every video you post makes me want to buy something! Good thing I can't afford any of it hahahaha!
Some good things are still cheap and awesome: ua-cam.com/video/sjP3YUejNRU/v-deo.html
I think it’s odd that you didn’t mention these being on Kickstart.
I love the tracker but the current price level of around $2000 is difficult to justify. I love the units and the only real competitor seems to be Bluetti solar generator line. Thank-you for an interesting video for this new tech.
If it's american made just wait for the Chinese to ripoff the design an then get it at harbor freight.
Pretty cool. Thanks for the interesting videos!
For me, sun trackers are hard to justify from a cost perspective, unless your use case requires maximum solar production per square foot. Otherwise, adding an extra panel gives you that extra output that will last as long as your panels. IMO...most trackers are likely to wear out long before your panels.
The idea is good but the price point is crazy high and I don't see why it should be so high, it's not exactly a complicated device and in fact, you could actually make your own for far less.
So impressed with the tractor now make it affordable and with a permanent mount! Really impressed with company for taking the first steps in that direction!
The smart generator is a common sense solution for most solar generator applications. While the batteries will run a lot of things, the discharge rate is significant. It will certainly come in handy when you have a lengthy outage and find yourself with virtually no battery left after 8 hours.
Yep, if you have the money, buy the smart generator, not the solar tracker.
I generally really like your videos, but you didn't address some important things; The solar tracker doesn't move the panel to avoid shadows from trees, the problem you explained at the beginning. The solar tracker must be fastened down so a stiff breeze won't send it flying off into Oz, and even if it is fastened down, it's not clear how robust it is. Is it really something that you could permanently use in all weather?
Also, can two Delta Maxes be used to make 220V backup power like the Delta Pro? If so, if you bought two Delta Maxes can they be connected in parallel to increase the 110V run time (I'd like to use them in my RV but take them out to back up my house when the power goes out, the Delta Pro is just too heavy).
The tracker alone weighs about 100 pounds but it collapses down for easy moving into lighter pieces so you can fasten it easily using the provided holes at the ends of the legs but if you are using it short term it may not be needed. It is 90% aluminum and extremely well made and is designed for long term operation outside. The Delta max can not provide 220v with 2 units. Only the pro offers parallel operation. Hope this helps.
@@SilverCymbal Thank you for the info, it was very helpful. I'll just have to wait for a solar generator with a reasonable weight that can do both functions. By the way, I'll never forget seeing my barbecue, which weighed about 100 lbs with the propane tank, getting moved by a ~50 mph gust and being rudely deposited into my swimming pool.
The model you tested really does not help with your trees shading. However, a future model could add a high power laser which would trim off the offending tree branches.
Amazing technology, we must buy it when the price reduces
love this video thanks so much I had no idea they made the solar tracker or gas gen.
I couldn't find any info on the tracker. How much power it uses how much it costs (although it seems it can't be bought separately & it would be nice to know how the programing works, ie, how often it moves during the day. A very nice gadget though
It would be interesting to see the difference in energy capture with a fixed solar array versus the solar tracker for a day. Better yet over month's and best for a whole year.
Oh wait a minute, I just looked, at $3400 it better be beyond impressive to recoup that investment.
You get all the best toys!
I am lucky to get to work with power products like these. which I really love doing.
Looks cool 😎
I enjoyed the video. Very informative. I love battery technologies.
Another articulately narrated video, loaded with info!!
What type of panels are using in the video?
This is what I needed
perfect for long time camping.
wow humans made a big leaf that impressive, wow wow wow well done wow
A futuristic mad max would defintively have all of those
When you review things, please let you viewers know how much you paid for it or approx. cost so we are informed. Thank you.
Yes, like the tracker but the price is just crazy at their website ($2699.00) and for just 1 400 watt panel $1200 is just insane.
All of the links go to the battery. Where do I find out about the tracker?
If you scroll down they have it all one one page. Hopefully they will have a dedicated page soon on their site for it too.
This looks like a very interesting product, but you mentioned twice that this would keep your solar panels out of the shade, but it doesn’t do that. You still have to setup your panel in a place where shade will not cross it during the day.,
Solar setup... skips ahead, sees man pouring gas into a generator lol
At some point you have to start calculating sunk cost vs savings and the specific use-cases for this vs regular electricity from the grid.
Wait until the Biden admin will make fossil fuels so expensive only the rich will be able to afford air conditioning. That might change the current cost analysis considerably.
@Nomen Clature It actually depends on your usage of the device's and one of the main things is that its pretty helpful for off grid location.
@@rebellucy5610 Here in Ontario we have plenty of electricity from Hydroelectric, wind and other sources. Coal is all but done though Nat Gas is still a component of the grid.
Great product! when will these be main stream, sold instead of gas generators at big box.
Question…….. would seem that a big gust of wind would send this end over end. Do you stake it down ? tie it off ?
Looks like a very good idea. I clicked the link to the product and the page is very confusing. Can't anyone just give a straight up price any more?
something in the range of ............. whole lot of extra solarpanels that double your incoming watts instead just 30% extra....
Wow that’s clever , I think even a manual turntable base that you can easily move to face the sun would be good.
An adjustable-size panel holder on a stiff, lockable universal joint. And the base can be filled with 15l of water, too (maybe add a tap and it's also a water carrier). If strong winds are coming, take the panel away and fold up the holder, then it's just an upright stick.
wheel cart plus optional tracks
Solar trackers are best used when space is at a premium or when using expensive solar panels. There is a market for this.
I think it's a great idea but as far as I can see no price is listed for the tracker (important for me) I have the ECOflo and the A/C plus 2 200w panels that's over 2 Grand already.
Interesting , Thank You Something to think about
Great review!
Thanks!
Went and looked on Google.
Solar tracker is sold out.
Not on Amazon either.
Looks like a great product! Do you think it’s durable enough to hold up in the harsh winters and blizzards we get here in Massachusetts? Also does the stand have to be secured to whatever it’s resting on via bolts?
You don't have to secure it but it would be a good idea if you plan to leave it for a while. As far as overwintering our winters it supposed to be able to handle it but I am planning to test that as the season comes arrives.
Solar trackers are absolutely nothing new and there is good reason they never caught on. These are, at best, for portable use. any fixed installation is always going to do better with more panels and no moving parts at all. Moving parts require maintenance any way you slice it. And no way I would believe any solar tracker would be worth it in a bad MA winter.
I would love this in my trailer.
Love watching rich people reviewing and saying it's inexpensive.
Time to get this and go camping!
its a really good UPS for computer nerds that like to go camping
There's going to be a way of staking it down right? Because a strong wind would probably blow that thing away or tip it over.
That concept would be great for a solar oven.
Awesome solar panel! I definitely need to upgrade to one of these and a solar generator for using my CPAP machine when the power goes off.
I have 2 x 50 Watt monokristallin panels for about 80 € / 80 $ each set. This is scalable. 4 x 2x50W is about 320 € plus cable splitters.
My solar tracker is very easy: it's my wife. She was instructed one time what to do. Cheapest solution ever! Not known under engineers and salesman. They don't want to hear this ...
Great product waiting to order the solar tracker as I own 2, ..400 watt solar panels and ecoflow delta pro…I wish I could plu the delta version into the delta pro
Great review, and thanks for this (I also watched your review on the Delta Pro itself)! Been looking at the Solar Tracker with the Delta Pro as an off grid power source for my Airstream Caravel 19CB. I’ve seen another video say the battery lasted about 7-8 hours with a 5000 btu window unit. Do you think the Solar Tracker combined with the Pro and an Extra Battery would be able to support longer term boondocking? It’s hot where I’ll be, so the AC will definitely be necessary. The Kickstarter has a package with all 3, plus the smart solar generator, and in addition to the Cost the weight is also a consideration (approx. 400lbs altogether).
You can always add more batteries for more storage, but you have to have the capacity to refill them fairly quickly because sun isn't always available.
@@working2bselfsufficient724 yeah, was thinking the same thing. Figured that was a perfect reason to get the smart generator. Have some other ideas that I’ll share post prototype…
Thats fine and all but if your hiding during shtf that beeping will give your spot away.i would add a rv windmill generator to it also since the wind blows as seen in video just a thought.also add leg extensions that fold down and lock just incase the wind. Is too strong and flip the whole unit over.
Neither of the links take you to the tracker
How much is the efficiency gain minus what the tracker uses? 20% ish?
I’m retired so I set in a swivel chair and hold the panel on my lap. Sometimes I sleep and the sun gets away from me.
Good to know . I will take it to Africa when I go
Does the solar tracker have a mute switch. The beeping would get annoying really quickly.
Yes it can be disabled in the app.
Looks good but not on website. Where is there info for the tracker, price and how to acquire/
How about providing a valid link where product can be purchased, and the price? Link provided does not reflect real time pricing or availability.
30 Watts is constant, while 400 watts is not guaranteed (i.e. nothing can be done for the clouds or trees or ambient temperature.) That is not a good deal. A calculated placement will very likely outperform this. Or, some concentration with aluminum foil if the panel can not be moved.
How are you supposed to recover $1,700 for that solar tracker.? Even at $700 it's a stretch it only holds one panel
I don't disagree with you at all that it is costly. Reminds me of the Teslas when they first came out but this one does stand alone. It's pretty cutting edge too, no one else has anything close. It is is very well made, app integrated and plug and play. Your alternative would be to move panels yourself or buy multiple panels all of which can work fine, this is the cruise control version of it with the benefit that you can use this with different panels which will continue to get higher density also even in the future. It's not the answer for everyone but for some it could be very useful.
Unless it drives around, how does it avoid the shade? Simply tilting and rotating doesn’t seem it would avoid encroaching shadows.
So does the solar tracker have a website or just gone off their website. I cannot find anything
I could not find it either on the kickstarter page. Looks like you have to buy a power station with the solar tracker if you want one.
Do you know what is the cell's chemistry?
how many cycles can it support?
Listen it's not exactly 'free'
Really good review, but if you'd like to save $550 you can use a cheaper panel with higher wattage and make it compatible for $20. I did a review on it and its saved me a bunch of money.
Nice unit, tracker and eco max. I can't afford them. But very nice. Thanks. Greg Chaney in coastal N.C
I wish you were my neighbor.
Am not sure if you covered how long it would take to charge one eco flow battery with the tracker and solar panels in your video as is or with 3 stacked
$5400 for 400 W solar? When will that amortize? I'm worried that might take over 100 years to break even. BUT it does look nifty if the solar cells follow the sun!
one year later, the tracker is not on their website. too bad. it looked like a really nice machine.
Great video, thanks! Do you think the Solar Tracker does also make sense for a solar set up at home or is this overkill? Thanks! And is it actually build for being outside 24/7 on a roof?
I doubt it makes sense for a fixed installation. You can't get more than a few hundred watts of solar panel on there and it costs 4 grand. .So by the end of the day, if you put 10 panels on your roof you'll have a lot more solar power than having one panel tracking the sun - for a much much lower price point. Buddy of mine just bought 16 used 200W solar panels for $600 and mounted them in his yard on 2x4's. Despite the panels being a little degraded, he still gets plenty of power for his well pump, fridge and a couple lights and stuff. So no, I don't think mounting a single high power solar panel on a $4000 tracker makes any sense when you can mount 10 of those for not even half the cost.
Look up the price 3k for a tracker that might boost your solar output not even close to worth it
It looks like a cool toy, but I have children so I have already made adjusting by saying boy go face it to the sun. But a question is while solar panels are water proof what about the stand.
Maybe, but they won't get the angle or direction as accurate as this, what's impressive is it can angle and turn to get it the absolute best all day long. Not saying manual is bad but this is a very intelligent device. Waterproof is always a bad word, but it is weather and water resistant. as are most solar panels including these.
What'd be nice is if you could use two of these to get 2 or even 3 phase at a panel
Nice... How do you find my solartracker?
I've seen the first solar tracker with electronics back in the 80s. It was essentially a toy for electronics diy enthusiasts which came together for like 20 bucks - with little motors and a tiny 4 by 4 inch solar panel. The principle behind it hasn't changed at all. Looking at the price tag this gadget is at least $3500 too expensive. Yes, the mechanics are nice, but to be realistic, nobody is going to use this in a location where a fixed installation would be much cheaper. The only use I see is for i.e. RV travellers and there I'd have a few problems with it,: first is price. This thing is too expensive to let sit out on it's own without someone watching it. Second, for the maybe 50% or so increase in power collection I can buy 10 extra 300W foldable solar panels and plaster half the campground and make 4 times as much power and third it's too big to be truly portable. If this was 200 bucks I might consider it. As it is, it solves a problem that doesn't really exist at that price point. Needless to say, for those travelling who might make use of it, you'd need to put it in a place that has full sun all day long without trees shading the spot. Since the sun (well, earth) moves a lot, that's essentially only happening out in the desert and there solar collection is really a no-brainer.
In a nutshell, it's a really cool gadget, apparently well designed, overpriced and mostly useless.
OMG, 3500+ for this? As everyone has told me since 2012 that instead of spending on a tracker, or even DIY for the parts alone, just use that money for more panels if you have the room. These are only really good for people who just don't have the room for more panels.
@@generalawareness101 There are one axis DIY actuator kits out there for a hundred bucks or so. With a little carpentry you can get decent results out of them because following the sun on a east-west axis brings more than the north-south one. That you can adjust 3 times a year and be in the ballpark. But yeah, if you have the room for it, just buy 5 extra panels.
@@uweschroeder Thing is to actually make it viable it would need to track the sun for a vla (very large array) as 100 USD in 2022 is about the cost of a 200 watt solar panel.
If space is available, a well-designed system is far better than an additional solar tracker and MPPT charger, which increases the overall cost and loss that can be invested to buy more panels.
The product links you provided lead to the EcoFlow Pro, not the EcoFlow Max.
The EcoFlow Max is not available for sale anywhere.
Used the link for the solar tracker & can’t find it.
im thinking about a nitinol(memory shape alloy)metal tree like array, that moves like a plant towards the Sun light, using its own power to set its leaves ( panels ) to be more efficient as it tracks the Sun, no moving parts*, no waste of power with cables, electronics, etc... Plus it would be nice to look at, something the size of a small Xmass tree, that you unfold from the size of a big umbrella, telescopic trunks and branches, something that would look like ART, a sculpture, that you could draw 700w (to a batt that could store and output up to 1400 watts).
Tracker is cool as hell but the RRP is crazy exp although i recently looked them up & seen a reduction to $1.7K USD in my country which is better but still too much IMO. Around $1K at the most but you're probably paying a huge premium for its novelty status.
