    A learning curve isn't a straight path to walk, and it's nice bumping into others on their own hike along the way. Sometimes we stub our toes on the rocks in the path, but those same rocks can be a talking point where friends are made too 😁

    Make sure you blow out your lines on the drip tape before they freeze. I made that mistake and ruined my sprinkler system. I froze garlic last season and I am still using it to this day. Don't be afraid to dice up garlic and freeze it. I can also relate to family getting sick of hearing how much canning I did for the day/week or how my plants are doing. So it is nice to have a community of people to share with and listen to. Congrats on your baby.

    • @bluebirdhomestead
      @bluebirdhomestead  5 місяців тому

      The gardening community is great! We did blow out our lines already thanks for the tip though! We also used pex instead of pvc in the underground portion of the irrigation and it flexes when freezes instead of cracking. That is a great tip on freezing garlic. I did freeze one bag of garlic minced up and ready to go too. -Cara

    Hi Cara, I came here from Betty and DeBorrah's channels - what a great place you have! I grew up on a small family farm and it was an adventure every day. When I grew dahlias, I would save tall twiggy brush in the spring from pruning the shrubs and stick them in the ground to support the taller dahlias (they eventually become invisible as the dahlias grow) - you may have too many dahlias to do that but rows of string at different heights should solve the problem. Love your channel!

    • @bluebirdhomestead
      @bluebirdhomestead  5 місяців тому +2

      Hi Welcome 🧡🧡I am so happy you are here! Saving twigs from pruning is a great idea! I saved a couple from last year to try and do that, but I think they ended up being dog chew toys haha 😂-Cara

    I don’t like the word fail, I use learning opportunity. Yes your dahlias were gorgeous, would you be able to lay cattle panels flat and off the ground a foot building a support and let the flowers grow through them? Great idea about the extra drip irrigation 👍. 😂😂 yes always accept help especially “free help”. Gardening like life is always a growing process no pun intended. Have a superb week Cara and family stay safe 🙏, Ali 🌧️🇨🇦

    First of all-We give you a garden fail “pass” this season. You were kind of busy 👶🏻🥰
    My main veggie garden “fail” is my brassicas (broccoli). I knew better than to not cover them but I didn’t cover and I lost my crop to cabbage worms 🤦🏼‍♀️ My “fail” in my cut flower garden is that I always overcrowd things. I want to grow “all the things” and it becomes a jungle! As for Dahlias-for me, I individually stake each one. That’s the only way I can keep them under control!

    You did pretty well this year though. I have a few areas I can improve on as well. Wonderful thing about gardening is that you get to do something new every spring! 💖😊💖
    I have been growing raspberries most of my life and what I have learned is if they have good soil and plenty of water, they will grow most anywhere sun or shade. But they do prefer rich soil, full sun, and lots of water. Not soggy, but damp. Which is why they grow so well in ditch banks and along creeks in the wild. 🤔💖😉

    Gardening fails currently in play as its still our growing season. 1. Not having irrigation hooked up to all garden beds. 2. Assuming I could plant straight into my gardening extension and now allowing that soil is almost straight clay 😢

    • @bluebirdhomestead
      @bluebirdhomestead  5 місяців тому +1

      Irrigation is defiantly a huge blessing and time saver. I am sorry you had struggles with clay. Our native dirt is very rocky hard red clay here too, we have to add compost to everything. That is one of the reasons I love raised beds. -Cara

    Thank you for sharing your tips with us today I started a deck garden basically this year for the first time and one of the main things that I started growing was peppers and culantro. Peppers have been a great challenge for me. One of the reasons they have been a challenge is because the original peppers I ordered were not the peppers that actually grew steak number one for me is buying seeds from Amazon. The second mistake I made with my peppers is overwatering And I believe the last mistake I made with my peppers was not giving them adequate spacing all in all through all the mistakes I’ve made growing the peppers I do believe that next year I will be able to be more successful because now I know what I was doing wrong
