Recipe: Butterfinger Candy Bars Copycat Recipe - Peanut Butter Candy

  • This is a copycat recipe because Butterfinger candy bars can't be sold in the EU.
    Butterfinger Candy Bars (Copycat):
    2 cups (400g) sugar
    1 cup (225mL) water
    3/4 cup (180mL) corn or rice syrup
    2 cups (480g) peanut butter
    1 tsp baking soda
    milk chocolate (optional)
    Combine sugar, water and syrup in a pot and heat to hard crack. Remove from heat, add baking soda and peanut butter. Stir until combined. Pour hot mixture into a lined or greased baking tray. Cut with a knife while still hot. Allow to cool. Break apart and dip in melted chocolate, if desired.

    Nestle, the maker of Butterfingers, was bought by a European multinational about 3 years ago. They changed the recipe. Someone who had never had the original might like their version. I used to not only love to eat the candy, but I also put it in cookies. I made double recipes of the basic Nestles cookie recipe, divided it up, and replaced the chocolate chips with broken or diced up candy bars. Yummy. But nobody can get the real deal anymore.

    Omg I just made these they are better then store bought. I love this recipe it's easy and so good. It's the 2nd recipe I've tried and this turns out perfect I only made half the recipe and it's enough to last awhile. Thank you for sharing with us

      Wow, really? I've never heard of using candy corn to make butterfinger candy bars. This is actually a recipe from my family that we used to make when I was a kid.

    I am very excited to try this; thank you for the recipe! I have a silly question: what pan size did you use? 1/2 sheet, 1/4 sheet, 9x13?? It's tough to determine visually and the actual size is not provided in the written directions. Much appreciation!

      You can use any size pan, actually. I used a standard cookie sheet.

    Is this crispy or chewy ? Cause other recipes i found happened to get chewy instead of crispy

      As long as the sugar syrup gets all the way to hard crack, it's quite crispy. If your sugar isn't at the right stage, it can be rather chewy. So watch the stage of your sugar syrup.

    Mine keeps coming out dry at the end and not at all pliable - any advice???

      Um, these are crispy candy bars and aren't meant to be pliable at all. They crumble, but they don't bend.

      Is it possible the sugar syrup boiled past hard crack? If it ended up changing color to caramel stage that may have potentially made the mixture thicker. Or possibly not enough peanut butter. It's hard to say for sure.

      It's a baking sheet. You just need a flat surface.

      Any size. You only need a surface to allow it to cool.

    Does it have to be corn syrup or can it be a low carb syrup

      I don't have any experience working with low carb syrup, so I'm afraid I can't answer that question. If you try it out, let me know if it worked. I would love to know how it went.
