Don’t forget to add the amount you need in gallon or bottled water so the water you need for the recipe isn’t from anyone’s drinking water stash.

I'd recommend writing the expiration date of whichever ingredient expires first on the outside of each meal kit bag so you know when you need to use it by or when to purchase new ingredients for it. I really like this idea and need to implement it at my house! Thanks for sharing this.

These would be good to put in mini pantrys, (blessing boxes) , put together for a family in need, someone that has had surgery and can't shop, or someone learning how to cook. Or take to a school to distribute for families that have food insecurity. You can call a local school and ask, The administration would know who to give them to. You always have such great content.

How convenient that she posted this immediately after I searched for emergency meal kit ideas! I really hate the way our small town food pantry operates (associated with Feeding America if I'm remembering correctly) because they want so much information from people just to provide a box of food. I can't really imagine someone (who has just realized they don't have enough food for their kids to last til next payday) having to stress about all the documents needed, dealing with their limited hours of operation, then possibly going and hearing they make a few dollars too much or whatever! I want to start something that provides food to anyone that says "I need food, I don't have enough right now", whether it's every week or just one hard week out of their life.

I am the primary cook in my house and I know when I am out of town my spouse tends to eat out or order in way too much because it is easier. I am going to implement this idea for him so at least he has an easy option instead of just ordering out. Also, LOVE the idea of snack bags. How many times am I running errands and pick up something to eat because I ignored the idea that I was going to be out for several hours. To have a to go snack bag would be ideal to throw in my purse.

For fun I looked online at my Walmart for the canned ground beef-$21.47 for the same size can and it has to be shipped! BAHAHA!!! As a suggestion even though it is not "shelf stable" pre cook some ground beef and freeze it when there is a sale you can bulk/batch cook it. Then if you have an emergency or you are just pressed for time you can pull out already cooked meat to help speed along the process. These bins of emergency meals help in so many ways and EVERYONE should have some. I have heard of people using them during a job loss or medical emergency. And if you watch sales you can put them together for less than you think. Mindy is simply amazing in the way she puts together these videos and relates to us:) Mindy, I wish you would do a collaboration video with Southern Frugal Momma! You both make my days:) Hugs

They are also great meals that kids can put together. It's empowering for older kids to prepare a whole meal for their family. When I was growing up, from the age of 12 on, I was responsible for one dinner each week for our family. I loved it and my grandmother really enjoyed the opportunity to teach me how to cook, and the lessons I learned then I have used for the rest of my life. I wish I had done this with my own kids -- this is one area where I really missed the boat.

Keystone meats are great! Several years ago I called the company because their expiration dates were hard to decipher (they've changed that now) and the lady I talked to said they put the raw meat in the can with a salt tablet on top, seal it, and cook it in the can. So the roast beef is right up your alley. It’s a great meal stretcher. Make a rue w butter and flour. Add milk then after it’s thick add your broth from roast beef and shred beef. Serve over toast or biscuits. A version of sos. Also do same w noodles and broth gravy instead of milk gravy. You will like it. I canned tons of ground beef during pandemic at great price. My daughter has 7 children and I have been able to bless her family and my son’s family many times with that beef. Her basement flooded during a recent unusually heavy rainstorm. No flood insurance. Mama brings out the beef🤣🤣🤣

Thank you for sharing all of these recipes, and ideas, I'm actually going to buy stuff today to make a box for our household today, and the flashlight/ battery radio, first aid kit........ I just never really thought about making up whole meals that require no refrigeration, thank you so much!!! Chili would be another easy one too, and I have water stored in glass jars in my pantry, when I empty out my quart jars I fill them with water, so I don't waste space storing an empty jar.......❤

Your Almond Joy comment cracked me up! I love them but it tickles me how some people just can't stand them. But seriously, I found this video so helpful, it's a great reminder to get some emergency supplies together. Thank you!

Don't be embarrassed it means that you're actually going through your stock instead of leaving it until it's expired. Plenty of other UA-camrs talk about prepping but it's never in a realistic manner or useful.

Not as nutritious, but the absolute best thing to pair with the little pb servings is a fun size bag of M&Ms. That’s been one of my favorite snacks for years- just dump them in and eat with a spoon 😋

Can't believe you had never tried the Keystone canned meats. They are all good. I pressure can all our meat but we keep a few cans of Keystone on hand too. For those that can, I make canned burritos in a jar, hamburger patties, beef stew, soups, bacon, sausage pot roasts etc. So we always have jars we can just open and heat.always good to be prepared!

I live by myself and about two hours away from a proper grocery store (we have a dollar store) so buying any sort of produce is difficult. The stores being so far away, you'd want to buy in bulk to make up for the long drive and gas cost. But since I'm alone, fresh food goes bad before I can eat it all. These are such great ideas, and honestly they are very cheap too.
Instead of just the canned sliced carrots for the chicken soup, I found some cans of veg-all at walmart (I think there's a store brand too) that have all kinds of veggies and it tasted great!
Thank you for the great video! Super helpful, especially for people in my sort of situation

You have to try Great Value canned diced ham. Oh My! So good. We have Spam, Canned Ham, Canned roast beef, Tuna, Chicken and Dak & Brookdale canned ham. I am a huge fan of shelf stable meals. Over the years there have been times that we were so grateful to have them. Just finished one on Facebook through my Kitchen Creations. I am by no way on your level but I am learning lots.

I wish the Keystone meats were sold in my Walmart but alas they aren't, I heard about them about a year ago, I do keep the shelf stable milk from the Dollar Tree on hand it is good. I have several items in my pantry, I think I will get some bags and make some meals like this.

I think you were the one who recommended Lazy Day Cooking Club. I am really like it! My friend had me look at Hello Fresh and the only onion free meals were things I could easily put together myself. If you have a normal dietary restriction, Hello Fresh would probably be good. Anything with proportioned spices or broth are probably going to have onion.

My family loves that ground beef and the cheaper small cans of Walmart ground beef . Great in soup, beef and noodles, beef sloppy Joe, spaghetti in beef/ tomatoes sauce . Stuffed cabbage rolls, this meat can be used for anything you want . Also, try the Walmart cornbeef hash, but not Hormel it's grease and has a bad after taste. Thank you for sharing your recipes.

Hormel Compleat Meals are pre-made and they come in a variety of flavors. Chef Boyardee. Dinty Moore has some good canned meals that are ready to eat but also has a few blister pack meals if you want something smaller too.

Almond Joy, YUM!! Velvetta Cheese is the only cheese I use for Mac and Cheese. I’ve eaten other people’s Mac and cheese with various other cheeses but they just don’t measure up in my book. Whenever I take it to a social function I always get compliments and the dish usually comes home emptied of its contents 😊. You may already know this fact but Dollar Tree sells 2.5 gallon bags and there are 6 bags per box. They do have the slider top. I use them for storing clothes, arts and craft supplies, seasonal items, etc, etc. Some of the Keystone meats also come in a 14.5 oz can. I’ve never found the ground beef here in the central part of KY but have the chicken, pork and regular beef. It wasn’t quite as expensive prior to the pandemic but like everything else the cost has increased substantially. Still worth having in the pantry. Have a great rest of the week!

These are great ideas. I grew up in a pretty rural area and we lost power frequently. We always tried to use up our perishable items in the fridge first so we wouldn't have to discard them. You just want to be mindful that you're not leaving the fridge open too long to keep as much cold air as possible in there.
