Old racer trick . ;) We did this back in the '80s lol. Here's a tip. Get an empty art/paint/bingo bottle with a dauber tip from your local art place. Fill with WD-40 and now you can take it on the go and dab as you need it.
Just a heads up. I race modified class 1/10th scale touring cars on carpet. I tried the WD40 as a substitute for a commercial tire additive. The WD40 had a negative effect on my tires. My car was all over the place, it wasn't controllable at all because I had 0 traction. I tried tires that were treated with a commercial additive and it has been day and night ever since. I did no tests on asphalt yet but I presume it will be the same thing. I wouldn't recommend the WD40 as a traction compound. However, you can use it to clean your tires before applying your preferred commercial or homemade tire additive.
This is not true it does work, You need to do it and let it dry in the tires hours or do it the night before your going to use your car, It don't work on all tires as some are silica based and it only works on real true rubber tires.
I do have rubber tires (Volante 28R) and I did let the WD40 to dry for quite some time. I applied a coat of the WD40 1 day before I go to the track. No traction. The next time I applied it 1h before using my car. Still no traction. It just doesn't work for me. I am not saying it doesn't work at all. It doesn't work in my situation in particular. I am curious if other people have a similar experience. Maybe I am doing something wrong who knows.
it can do wonders for foam on road tires, but you have to spend a little time squishing the stuff into the rubber, let sit a couple hours, then aggressively wipe/squish them back clean with rags. the foam will be soft and sticky again. for long term storage, vegetable oil! use the WD to pull the veggie oil back out, then again for cleaning/softening before running. stuff we did 30+ years ago pan car racing, we also liked tennis ball cans for 1/10 foam tire sets, helps slow air exposure that'd stiffen them.
Cool tip id love to see it on crawler tires before and after you put the wd on them like test it on a very steep rocky incline then treat and try it again 😊
Shen RC i would but i dont have and wd right now and i dont want to tell i see a video that shows it works. All i can find is video's of how to coat the tires lol I have a feeling as soon as they get dirt on them it will be 0 difference 😔 Like my pro line swampers rock tell they get fine dust or wet dirt/sand coating them 😂
It works I coat a lot of my tires. if your rubber is not silica based when you rub the wd40 into it and let it dry in you can feel with your hand they are much more grippy and if you put a tire on a surface you will feel it grabs much better.
as a person who uses this, JUST KNOW it will shorten the life of the tires.. it works because it breaks down the rubber compound. what im saying is it destroys your tires but does give better traction.
@@ShenRC it does soften them by penetrating into the rubber.. i use it on my tires under race conditions, yea it causes them to wear faster.. i understand this and just consider it part of racing.. the petroleum based wd40 breaks down the petroleum based tire rubber
@@lcpeterbilt379 they may wear faster But it much safer and better on tires than that nasty stuff they purposely make for making your tires more grippy for racing that stuff is toxic as anything and really messes up your tires... WD40 is much better.
@@ShenRC lol im not saying anything bad about using it.. i do and liquid wrench, im just saying it breaks down the rubber in the tires is all.. and people who try it need to know that it does damage the tires,
@@lcpeterbilt379 I know what your saying but any tire traction makes tires softer and wear faster but wd40 does not make the tires dry out and crack or melt like the real rc traction compounds they make for RC cars can do to your rc tires. I know from experience with this I ben doing all sorts of stuff with RC's for over 40 years now.
Great tip, Steve, thanks! 😃👍👌
Your welcome =)
Works well. I put my tyres in bags and rotate them over 2 days and they're awesome 😎👍
Wow that must really make them grip, I only coat them and they get grippy. Thanks for watching.
Very good! Thanks Steve! 👍😊
Thank you =)
Haven't tried that one yet. Heard of soaking tires in simple green but haven't tried that yet either. Thanks for sharing! Thumbs up #17
Try it out, =)
Thanks for watching.

Yea it's a good trick that's for sure! =)
Bottling it is a good Idea =)
What rc buggy is that? I know this is a old video but the manx is awesome
Thanks check out my latest videos I have 2 of this beauty running. 👍
I remember this one now, Thanks again.
Good one! I usually do this to make the tires Look better, but yep.. makes them work better as well :)
Yep!
Thanks for watching =)
Is it recommended to do this with touring car tires that have treads on them as well?
Hi yes it works great on most all tires. 👍
Good tip! I've seen others recommend it also so it must work. Got some of those hard Tamiya wheels to try it out on.
Thanks , those tamiyas rubber tires gets real dry...I put a coat let it dry in and do it one more time for my street rover tires.
Good job man.
thanks man!

+Boris RC probably not doing anything wrong it just don't work on some types of tires 😀

@@modelnutty6503 i remember that from the early 90s in cali.
should be good for crawlers i geuss, nice tip mate :)
you bet ya! =)
It works great in no prep rc drags
It's not considered tire sauce.
And it works on my crawler great
we used to use gojo hand cleaner on foam tires when we used to race on carpet ,haven't tried that on rubber tires yet though
cool! thanks for watching.
gojo is very good stuff to work into foam tires too, cheap and available!
great idea brother
thanks man!

👍😊👍trust me it works... only don't work on some of them silica cheap rubber types. got to test it out brother!

:)
I’m going to do this tonight on my Gen7 tires. 👍😃👍
😃👍 Beauty let me know how it goes!
I need grip on my slicks for the street
try it out.
I will do that tomight
Test it out on different tires. Thanks for watching.
Very cool idea! I will try it out with the Gmade 1901 (which sucks a lot :))
yea give it a try may want to let 2 coats soak in!
Gonna try that one.
Cool!
Will wd40 work on foam tires?
I think it may work one way to find out give it a try. =)
it's GREAT, you have to work it in deep, and hours later work it back out with clean rags.
What does it grip better on?
works better for all surfaces , coat your tires and let it dry in and give it a try.
Nice!
Thanks.
Ancient chinese secret revealed :-D
Yep =) Thanks for watching
I put my scx24 tires in a bag of wd40 for 24hrs and they actually got bigger.
😁 Only need to coat them lightly. Thanks for watching.
Saucy! 👍😎👍
LOL! thanks for watching =)
Wd40 is a lubricant, stop lying
Wd40 is not a lubricant lol.
