The miniB and miniT brushless costs more then the Nascar. If brushless were to be offered, it would he significantly more expensive. I feel anything that is "Grom" related is intended for entry-level and with Nascar, Losi is already bumping up against a non-entry-level price. Do we all add brushless to these? Generally, yes. I think the most obvious solution is to offer the Nascar (as well as other Groms) as a roller for a cheaper price, therefore ensuring it stays in that affordable range. Ideally, the Nascar could be offered WITHOUT the Nascar body, so licensing wouldn't be an issue, and costs could come down even more. In addition to entry-level being the goal, I think club racing might have been the goal, too. Club "spec" racing, that is. In that situation, it would be ultimately up to each individual track's rules, but keeping everything stock would ensure an even, and inexpensive, playing field. Should it be offered as brushless? I think not, as that defeats my perceived intention of the vehicle.

Nice job, very informative, is the brushless motor used in this video the equivalent to the 380 stock motor? If not do you know of a brushless motor equivalent for the stock 380?
I'd say the brushless motor is a fair amount more powerful than the stock 380 motor but I still think it's pretty appropriate for the chassis. Is there a reason why you want the same amount of power as the stock brushed motor?
Thanks for responding, and yes I was looking for a brushless replacement for the stock 380 reasons behind this is consistent motor performance with brushless versus brushed that degrades during use and eventually would need replaced with new motor. My understanding is that the brushless would last longer than me if it was ran within its specifications and wouldn’t need as much maintenance as a brushed motor. I do know that would require a brushless esc and receiver. Taking it out of the stock class racing but possibly a mod class of the stock might happen. Really like the speed as is for oval or simulated scale rc nascar racing. And long run times!
@scottbrodie3071 I would recommend giving this set up a try. It's a really reliable combo and where as it does give you a little bit more power than stock It's not a crazy amount and especially on 2S it's definitely a good system.
I don't normally do links but you can Google the ESC. They are sold lots of places. The motor is available from Amazon if you look up the brand and model I state in the video you'll be able to find it. Thanks for watching :-)
Unfortunately you're probably not really going to find tires that get good grip especially with increased power. This is a very light very small car and traction just isn't something that is going to be easy to come by.
This should really be a brushless rig for more money, say like 225ish, or have been more like $150. I think a lot of people justify it by saying the Mojave is $150 so it’s just $30 for the nascar licensing, but that makes the mistake of assuming the Mojave is worth $150. I would argue none of the grom platform cars earn their price tags. They have a weaker driveline than many of the small brands out there, I would say that $125 is the top dollar that any of them are really worth. It’s also a shame that the granite buyers just get shafted on the motor cooling situation. It’s not that hard to mount a fan on top of an appropriately designed heat sink even the competition like redcat use larger 390 motors for around $100 instead of 130+. I just sold my granite grom for $80 and haven’t looked back.
I think the Grom line wins an overall quality ease of repair and maintenance availability of parts and upgrades. You do pay a premium for those things though.

I personally haven't had any issues with the stock servo. Check out my video after this one where I put even bigger tires on it and put it through more abuse. I think this is my fourth or 5th Grom now and I haven't replaced a single servo.
@@Rcjamaica876 almost certainly not. That's a massive motor. I don't know if they make a motor mount that will work for it but I don't think it'll fit the stock area.. The 1010 I put in the second video is just about as big as you can get away with in diameter.
Unfortunately at least over here the options for appropriate motors with the appropriate shaft size are very limited. Since I don't know what you have available over there I really wouldn't be able to make any suggestions.
This is NOT the updated diff! Not for that Mojave grom anyways. Those two little plastic gears are the ones the metal gears in the center strip so easily. Mine lost the rear end in 4 battery packs. Arrma all metal diffs ar 50.00 US for front and rear. Cvd axles will also have to go. Highly recommend Hot Racing HR! Around 26.00 US for each. Also, great choice here on ESC! AWFUL choice on motor...
You're thinking of the upgrade diffs that have been available as an option since the first Grom was released. This is the updated stock diff that was introduced with the Mojave. It has revised plastic output cups and metal internal spider gears.
@DoRC hell no it aint!!! I bought it day one. They are the same stock diffs. Because I have them all together in a plastic little bag. 4 of them! All been taken apart. All exactly the same! I didn't but I could smell it so it was probably pretty unhappy.
I might just get one of these someday
It's pretty cool little car.
Big problem with these is that they make it really hard not to use terrible spectrum electronics. Other than that it's a sweet street version of the mini t
True though check out my latest video. The fusion 16 definitely makes things easier.
Links to the motor and ESC? That u swapped in
I don't normally do links but you can Google the ESC. They are sold lots of places. The motor is available from Amazon if you look up the brand and model I state in the video you'll be able to find it. Thanks for watching :-)
I put a spectrum 2s brushless all in one but no grip, I cant find rod tires to fit ..... any suggestions the servo sucks too lol
Unfortunately you're probably not really going to find tires that get good grip especially with increased power. This is a very light very small car and traction just isn't something that is going to be easy to come by.
Did you find the Typhon Grom handled the speed better?
@@anthonyalbanese9023 off-road definitely. On road not entirely sure.
Great tear down and build as always! Please don't put Xmaxx wheels and tires on this one!
Hmmm:)
We all agree that Losi needs to release brushless versions now that Arrma has, right?
Would be nice though even the brushed current version can overpower the tires pretty easily on smooth surfaces
On-road Gorgon?
Hmm:)
that body looks thicker than the real NASCAR bodies.
So far it seems reasonably stout.
It’s so much more expensive because the licensed body and teams on the body I think the price isn’t bad for what you get.
Yeah they're definitely paying a premium for that and it's a cool car. I'll be curious to see if they come out with an infraction for less money.
NIIICE 👌
Glad you enjoyed. Check out my latest video!
I’m a NASCAR guy looking to get into it, but I think its cost is bad for how slow it is stock.
Absolute top speed is pretty low but they're actually fun cars even out of the box.
What parts did you buy?
It's all detailed in the video :-)
Does anyone have the link to these parts? I’m new to this and would love to upgrade my car
I describe each thing I use in the video. You should be able to do a Google search to find them.
You do pay a premium for those things though.
how big is this truck .. everyone keeps tallking about it but not mentioning the size of it..
Wheelbase is 9 in and the whole thing is about 13 in long.
I see back order parts in your very near future.
Eh?
While brushless would be nice out of the box, with all the licensing losi had to do I don't see it being possible
I agree and this thing's actually pretty fun brushed. It definitely has a decent amount of power though it is more fun with more power :-)
Should have run it 2s
I appreciate the feedback. I did end up running it on two as I just ran out of time to put it in the video.
It should absolutely come brushless out of the box.
It would be nice but of course that would make it more expensive.
Why are you saying Grom when the Groms are Arrma, are they the same company in the background?
Yes Horizon owns both Losi and Arrma. This vehicle is on the ground platform and shares most of them basic components and design with the Grom vehicles.
@@DoRC ohh didn't know that, thanks for the information.
@@qfc1313go look at exploded views of these Losi Nascar models. They are littered with ARA part numbers. Compare them side by side with any Arrma Grom and you’ll see A LOT of parts sharing
The real nascar cars use hood pins so it makes sense for these to use body clips.
You know what you're right. I just looked. For some reason I thought they used a flush style pin system not the standard old school one. I stand corrected :-)
Link to parts please
Sorry I don't do links but the motor is available on Amazon and you can get the ESC just about anywhere.
Where can I buy one?
Check Horizon hobbies. I don't know if they're in stock currently or not though
How many times did he say grom?????
163
No need to change servo???
I personally haven't had any issues with the stock servo. Check out my video after this one where I put even bigger tires on it and put it through more abuse.
I think this is my fourth or 5th Grom now and I haven't replaced a single servo.
Ok will go so can I put a surpass 3650 6000kv with a 150amp esc for 4s could that motor fit ??
@@Rcjamaica876 almost certainly not. That's a massive motor. I don't know if they make a motor mount that will work for it but I don't think it'll fit the stock area.. The 1010 I put in the second video is just about as big as you can get away with in diameter.
i cant get that motor in my country you have some diffrent options?
Unfortunately at least over here the options for appropriate motors with the appropriate shaft size are very limited. Since I don't know what you have available over there I really wouldn't be able to make any suggestions.
@@DoRC any 2440 or 2445
and kv suggestions
+ pinion gear
@@politie_jip112 for 3S around 3,500 KV seems good. If you get a hot racing 1/8 in bore mod 0.5 pinion it'll open up your motor options a lot.
@@DoRC a hotracing pinion is about €17,50 on aliexpress
and a 2445 3600kv is €20,80
also i can go with a 16bl30 if i get that motor
@@politie_jip112 Yeah 16 BL30 should be fine For most use cases.
what is a Grom?
It's a platform created by Arrma. It includes several vehicles Is the platform this vehicle is based on
@@DoRC Thank you!
I wonder why losi/horizon lists this as a 20-60+ mph car?
Probably because the platform is technically capable of it with enough power? I don't know.
Probably because the platform is technically capable of it with enough power? I don't know.
ok i need 1 or 3
Definitely a fun car!
Poor Losi... Just a rebrand lable now..😢
I don't know if that's necessarily true. It is platform sharing but this is far from just a relabeled current Grom model.
They still have TLR. That is closer to pre-HH sellout.
Plastic at the ends! Metal in the center. The metal gears strip the plastic gears on the end. YOUR COMPLETELY WRONG TRUST ME! They didn't upgrade shit
lol I feel like Honda is going to sue Arrma and anyone else using “grom”
Nah they are not Traxxas
Maybe they'll get Traxxas to do it for them :-)
Nah. Honda is FAR bigger than any RC company. Hardly worth it.
Meanwhile, Hyundai just came out with the Ioniq 5 XRT, I wonder if Traxxas will chase them over that.
@@PigglyWigglyDeluxe It is an electric truck so....

The car or the upgrade?
would i buy a HORIZON HOBBY budget comprimised RC car today ? 🤔 nah 🤣🤣🤣 . Maybe so. LC racing does make nice stuff.

I absolutely love my emb-sct. I've had for almost 10 years and still love driving it. It's got pretty much all the upgrades on it. You are right about the amazing handling. I used to do carpet racing with it but my track closed down a while ago so now I just bash it around. I'm thinking about converting it over to the rally. What wheels and tires do you use for your rally? The stock LC Racing ones?
lol just a toy for sure …. Folks just get a traxxas slash!!!
they're all toy cars :-)
