Thank you for showing me this! I used to do music all the time and now Bandlab is helping me get back into it
You’re welcome! It’s a super great resource for that
THANKS SO MUCH!!! My assignment is due in like a hour and you helped me
Glad I could help! So its 1 month later...how did you do?

Regarding your mention of MIDI controllers and their limitations- I have the Akai Mini Play which DOES have built in sounds and a small speaker and headphone jack. The speaker is pretty small and quiet so I mostly use the headphone jack. You can plug it into a power bank (or put AA batteries in) and play on the go anywhere without using a phone or computer, but it's also a MIDI controller. I really feel this is such a great starting tool for a newbie such as myself because it allows me to play around and practice EASILY, whether at home or on the go. I'm also going to get a portable speaker with Aux input so I can play more loudly and with other people (like using an amp). This also means you can easily hook it directly into a looping station. I'm really surprised this isn't a more popular model, I hope this mention helps some other beginner who is looking for a good starting controller
thanks you but it not work for me ...
Yo bro it didn't work for me as well but I fixed it. If you search up midi in the chrome settings and allow midi keyboards it might fix it for you. sorry I'm 5 months late haha

hi, thank you for this video it helped a ton, but for some reason after two days the midi did not connect anymore and didn't get reconized. I was assuming it was because my mpk was a 'mpk mini play' rather than a normal 'mpk mini' if u know how to fix that would be great :)
Naw, it wouldnt, or it shouldn't, be because of that. I Akai makes some pretty reliable and well supported products. I would double check that you have the latest drivers installed and then try again. If that doesn't work, then uninstall the drivers completely and then reinstall it again.
I was having the same issue on my Mac using Safari. Open Bandlab in Chrome and it will recognize the mk3
. It worked for me.
@@keemeneememan awesome! That is good to know cause I still get a handful of ppl every week saying this doesn’t work
Thank you :) Found out i have to unplug it and replug it everytime, but that is fine with me. As long as it works 😂
Hey! As long as it’s working! 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
at the bottom left, it doesn't show instrument for me, it shows source. I cant find that setting anywhere
Double check that your midi controller drivers are installed on ur computer. Same thing happened to me and I had to download the drivers for me midi controller
@@Mr_Cru2 Hey i fixed it. But also, are you able to change the note velocity while playing? If not, i cant use BandLabs lol. Its unplayable if i cant change that. My midi device is super sensitive on how hard or light i push the buttons.
It still didnt work for me. It says no midi device. Can you help?
Make sure ur drivers are all up to date for ur midi controller. Also depends on what OS ur using because some manufacturers stop supporting their devices after so many years
So I have a Yamaha electric piano, will this work if I used a MIDI cable? It's a Yamaha YPT-220 and I'm using a USB MIDI cable.
I honestly have zero experience with using an actual MIDI cable. Those things were just turning obsolete when I started producing
Can you help me ? I can't hear my keyboard playing in bandlab when I use my MIDI keyboard. I only hear the keyboard sound outside the keyboard itself.
What’s the make and model of your midi controller?
@@Mr_Cru2 casio ct-5200rd
Thank you for this video. I have another question though, when you choose Instrument, you can also pick Creator Kits... Now I've been wondering for some reason it does not allow me to play creators kits on my midi instrument... like only on the first try I was able to play four keys on my midi keyboard... that is kinda weird... Does it normally not work in general, or did I do sth wrong?
Try changing the octave on your keyboard. Sometimes when it comes to instruments that aren’t pitched (the technical term is missing me right now) they oftentimes START at C-0; so the lowest possible notes that u can play on a keyboard. Give that a shot
@@Mr_Cru2 thank you so much! That worked just fine
@@musickmuse you’re welcome my friend
What would you suggest If I want to connect my digital piano (which can function as a MIDI controller) and use the voices it has instead of BandLab's? Thanks!
Technically this is not possible with BandLab. What you are asking about is something called MIDI Out. This is where you can record or trigger the sounds from a keyboard and use them inside of a DAW. BandLab doesn’t have this capability…yet
Great explanation
can you use any instruments on the keyboard?
Yea, but the mapping might be a little funky if you are using a drum instrument
I'm wondering about the other end of the cable. Do you just plug it into a USB port on your laptop? Or do you need to plug it into some other device which then plugs into your laptop? Thanks.
One plug goes into the computer via usb and the other end of that cable connects to ur midi controller. I’ve never seen one that is NOT setup that way
@@Mr_Cru2 huh, it didn't work for me though. I looked it up everywhere and I don't seem to have anything missing. There's no "driver" or whatever that seems to need to be installed. It just doesn't detect the keyboard.
@@nitorishogiplayer3465 what device are u using BandLab on?
@@Mr_Cru2 well it's my Asus laptop. As for my keyboard it's a Casio CTK 4400
Midi clock doesn't work in bandlab on any version with any gear. So can't use this as a DAW for all your external gear. Literally the only DAW without midi clock
i really miss it being this way. now i cant figure out how to get sound going
Thank you. It works. 👍
For me I got an also mpd218 and it still says no midi device
Try to see if u can update your midi driver
@@Mr_Cru2 how do I that
Hey thanks for the information. I´m starting to use bandlab these days. I have a digital piano Yamaha P - 105 and when I a plug it in via a midi usb cable I don´t see it appearing on the screen. Should these tips work for any keyboard? Thanks for making this video!
It doesn't work! I have the same problem! I wrote to bandlab and they told me to use another browser, but it was very funny because they gave me opposite answers: in facebook they told me to use Chorme and per email they told me to use Firefox!
So just DON#T use that because it doesn't work!
Midi controllers require drivers in order to work, but the problem is that these drivers are designed to work with DAW programs...not necessarily Browers like Chrome or Firefox. You will probably run into a lot of compatibility issues with midi controllers unless they are very common or, extremely cheap, like the one i used. try using it on a different computer first tho
THANK YOU!!
I haven't seen on the internet, especially on UA-cam, anyone making a song with the bandlab, using a controller keyboard. Just tutorials.
Me personally RARELY ever use a midi controller anymore. For me, it’s been easier to just draw in all my edits and melodies.
Thank you very much :)
Youre welcome
I always get a message saying not support midi controllers no matter what browser I’m using. Using arturia minilab if that matters
Try to see if u can download the latest drivers for it.
@@Mr_Cru2 thanks, for the controller you mean like from arturias website?
Does it have to be cakewalk by bandlab
Most DAWs have an auto-sync feature that will instantly recognize a midi controller when plugged in. It’s usually not very hard and the process can be similar to this. It’s just a matter of locating those settings
Do you have to download the software if the Midi ? cause i’m plugging it in and i have the same one as you and nothing is popping up
Not necessarily software, but Google the drivers for the midi controller and download those. 90% of the time, that’s the issue
@@Mr_Cru2 what’s the driver? i also got this alwhile ago so idk if i need some paper or stuff that came with the box ? cause i don’t have it anymore
That looks so easy, but unfortunately Bandlab doesn't recognize my Kawai ca7 via usb-midi and midi in/out connection neither =(
I just tried and run Bandlab in Google Chrome. And finally it works perfectly. Before it didn't work in Mozilla Firefox.
@@ricardopaga173 I was just about to ask that! Someone put me on to that but I ultimately assumed everyone is using Chrome nowadays
Which MIDI controller do you use?
I have 2. My portable one is a Akai MPK mini and the one I use in my studio is a Nektar SE49
I just plugged in my Mpc mini play and nothing showed up
Thank you so much
You are welcome
I have a question, why when I play my midi controller it just sometimes sound so low and so high? I wanted it so that no matter how soft I pressed the keyboard it just sound normal
That would have to be a feature or setting that your keyboard has. However, once you record your notes in BL, you can turn the velocity up of every individual note
Does it work with sampler?
Yes indeed! Your QWERTY keyboard works for Sampler too
So u have to have it connected then connect the cord to the keybroad right ??
Technically doesn’t matter which order you do that in, from my experience
Can we do transpose with this particular midi in bandlab... please help...
The only way is if your actually keyboard has a transpose button. I remember BandLab having a transpose feature but you would have to go into every midi region and do it individually. There’s no way to do it to an entire project at once
Ok
Thanks 😊🙏
Why does my screen look different. I'm using bandlab on the Chromebook
Because this is an older video. They’ve since updated the GUI
Hi! I want to connect my eastar keyboard to bandlab on pc, should i use a midi-usb adapter, or connect a square-ish usb to normal usb cable that you used? Do both transfer music to bandlab? Thanks!
the one that i used in the video is the most common sort of cable, and i think that would be best. However, those cables those cables don't transmit "music" and in "audio", they transmit data that triggers the sounds INSIDE of Bandlab. I just want to clarify so that you dont get confused and think that buying a new keyboard will mean that you get new sounds.
When I press the first key on my midi it doesn’t play the first key on the piano
Try changing the octave on your keyboard up
@@Mr_Cru2 thx bcuz it works with Fl studio, mixcraft 10,9 and cakewalk fine
@@Mr_Cru2I did that bandlab read it wrong but a mapped the whole thing
Thanks
Welcome
I don't have much space in our apartment. But I need to make full music and not just beats. I already have cakewalk software. So would you recommend this? And the file that it creates, is it a standard MIDI file which I can use to control other instruments like KORG?...so what i plan to do is make the midi music at home ( in a limited space ), then in my office where i have a bigger keyboard KORG, i can use the file created and do more edits....my end product actually is I use the midi file to play the korg piano live. I don't have to do computer set up on stage. I just lay down the korg, plug it in the speakers and it works...but once i get home, i need to create my next songs (the midi file) for the next time. I use to bring home the korg with me, but it's getting difficult. So i was thinking can MPK can do it for me? will the MIDI file I create with it, can work to play the KORG pa 600. thanks Mr Cru2, for all the free knowledge you give here!
how to solve the latency issue when connected to midi keyboard
What about the loopers or Banlabsounds how can I drag them to the midi keyboard
That, you can’t do, however, you could chop up some of the loops and drag them into Sampler and then trigger the samples from your MIDI controller
thanks!
You are welcome!
Can you use the pad to chop samples?
Technically yes but it’d be very inconvenient
@@Mr_Cru2 ok thanks I only have my phone but want to get into producing and I want to get a midi keybaord but laptops and fl studio are too expensive rn
Yo why when I Connect my akai mpk mini it says midi interface not supported i mean we have the same midi
Make sure that ur drivers for the midi controller are updated. You might have to go to the Akai website to do that.
Hey, i just want to ask how to connect the midi knobs to the effects because i haven't see any tutorial to connect it to bandlab
Technically, as far as im concerned, you cant do that. Most DAWs have a feature that allow you to assign remote control to stuff like effects and whatnot, but Bandlab doesn't have that capability...yet
How is BandLab free? I don’t get it. It’s so nice.
I connect it and the volume goes in and out constantly. And it’s just not the speaker sound it downloads and records with the messed up volume as well
Hello, is this possible to buy the canto 37 key mini, which is not a midi keyboard, it's a kids keyboard. However, it has a USB, so can I connect it to my computer and will it work? Thank you.
Have you used it with cakewalk?
I haven’t yet. I may in the near future but honestly, I wanna transition to Soundtrap cause the audio quality is much better imo
i don't get any sound... I don't know what i'm doing wrong.
Nothing came up for my MPC mini play
Make sure your drivers for the MPC are updated
You just plugged it up in bandlab and got a sound, does that sound come from a bandlab default sound or do you have to find that sound on a software and upload it into bandlab?
Nope, shouldn’t have to upload any sounds. I think that was just some sound I had pre-picked before the tutorial to make sure that it would play a sound soon as I plugged it in
But yeah, BandLab should have all the sounds inside of itself
@@Mr_Cru2 Thank you for this info, I am brand new to learning how to do this and use a midipad. But really enjoying your videos. I am curios, from a Pack can you use just one sound out of pack you select and make your own song with it, with a midi contoller?
I have that same model, but it doesn't just play when I plug it in, so you know about something else I guess.
What about the bottom it says midi interface not supported?
Do some Google searching for your midi controller and make sure that the drivers for ur controller are updated

Connect a midi controller to Bandlab mobile?
idk why but the part when i plug it in and go on instrument there is no option for the midi keyboard option. it is presented absoulutley different
They may have updated the user interface but if your midi controller isn’t showing up then
1) either see if there is an update for the device’s drivers. Install it and then try again
2) see if u can connect a different midi device. If that one works then the initial device may no longer be supported. Midi devices, much like other peripherals, have a shelf life of support and if it is a lesser known brand, they may not have provided any way to keep those devices compatible with newer machines
help!! i don’t see the drop down menu for the midi info anymore!!
Can I connect à midi controller to my IPhone ?
Don’t think that is possible

Update the driver for your midi controller. Should be able to find it on the manufacturers site
@@Mr_Cru2 Hi thanks for you reply. It’s an AKAI MPK mini, couldn’t find the drivers to install on the website but I think it’s an issue with my browser (Firefox) as it works on Microsoft Edge
How to make the volume high???
Is that easy
Does it work with all midi controllers
Most, yes! Any issue u run in to with the controller not showing up is more than likely a result of the devices drivers either not being updated or that the device is no longer supported by the manufacturer, which means it’s just an oversized paperweight. You’ll have better luck with devices from popular brands like Akai and Alesis because those companies tend to support their devices for a very long time.
@@Mr_Cru2 thanks for your help and thanks for replying so quickly 👍
Can you use midi to control the loops in bandlab from the pads or something no1s real clear about this

Just so you know MIDI Keyboards and MIDI Drum pads wont work if your using Firefox Browser. FYI
Correct! I’ve since learned that BandLab has a ton of issues and bugs when being used via anything other than Chrome
