The history is correct but you are missing out at least 30/40 years of Costal Andra Pradesh people investing into Hyd as there capital. Much of the Richest and Brightest people invested and built a lot of Modern HYD. AP now is lagging behind because of the improper redistribution post bifurcation.
If one understood the real factors that had led to the partition, one would not have posed such a hypothetical question. The nation witnessed 3 separatist agitations on Teluguland since my birth. 1. The Telugu politicians are the worst pack in India. Others may resort to corruption and violence too. But our leaders are distinct in that they resort to an extremely narrow version of regionalism in addition to the above. They may rest for a few years with their mouths shut. But there is no guarantee that they won’t rake it up gain. So the Telugu unity always teetered precariously on a fragile ground. Our leaders won’t allow any semblance of it. If not in 2014, partition will happen in 2024 or 2034. You never know. In fact, right now, AP is sitting on another regional time-bomb. 2. Because it is very easy to divide the Telugus, caste-wise, district-wise, region-wise. You name it, you can divide them that way. It is so easy, easier than drinking a glass of water. Easy to accomplish for everyone on the earth. It is enough if you just throw the stone of a nasty debate on something like the greatness of a caste, or the meanness of a caste, the villainy of a region, the backwardness of another region. Praise a dialect or insult another. Immediately tempers run high and you will find the Telugus in an unstoppable mutual assassination mood.
3. This is perhaps the only large sub-nation in the world, living with such most outdated and anachronistic mindset and concepts, unbefitting of its size, wealth, history and civilization. No attempt has been made yet by any leader or party or government to lift these people from this mental morass and make them stand proudly by the side of other civilized international races. Whoever came, they strove only for dividing the Telugus further and further. They just worked hard to keep the Telugus at the tribal level. They are still at it. So, how do you think keeping them united is possible in this atmosphere? 4. While it was a regional bifurcation, why am I speaking of castes? It is because a huge campaign ran before 2014 that certain castes and communities would benefit from the bifurcation. It was also argued that it was necessary to divide the state to escape from the hegemony of a particular caste. They called on the people to teach that particular caste a lesson by dividing the state. Not many know that the castes in AP-TS are not simply castes, but the dominant local sub-nationalities in their respective regions. So some other (one single) caste ruling over a pan-Teluguland was unacceptable to them. So they wanted/ still want their own “caste-state”.
5. Why so much casteism in Teluguland? The Telugus are a highly brainwashed race. It is all an indirect activity. They were, and are still being brainwashed in every manner possible, that there is nothing to be proud of their common Telugu identity. As a result, this is perhaps the one and only South Indian race which studies in the English medium on such a huge scale. For them, the Indian identity is too big and a very distant and faceless thing among 29 states. So with their God-given linguistic identity demolished by politicians., now they have nothing to mentally fall back on, except the local caste identity for a sense of belonging. They seek all friendships and enmities solely on its basis, and within that framework. 6. The Telugus are a hopelessly divided sub-nation on the basis of economics as well. Nature divided them on a permanent basis. Here you have 3 regions with very diverse economic backgrounds and the attendant inequalities which cannot be bridged by any government working in a democratic setup any time soon. Financial position stands in the way of one Telugu identifying with another whole-heartedly. In stead, currently one Telugu is happy for another Telugu suffering.
(a) COASTAL ANDHRA : Nearly 95,000 sq.kms of productive land with a population of 3.70 crores. Does not boast of any notable industry anywhere except at Visakhapatnam. Known for its scenic beauty and idyllic nature. Has the largest number of assembly seats among the regions. Yet the people in general are interested in money-making but not politics. So they are always happy to give away the leadership positions to the Telugus of other regions. They are also the people of a reserved mentality and therefore, it is difficult to elicit their actual views on the inter-regional relationships/ disputes. Coasta can be called the Gem of the East with its extremely fertile and irrigated farms, where you can grow anything in the world from coffee to apples, also having 3 crops a year. Commanding a huge share in the agricultural and sea-foods’ export market. High rates of literacy and education. Full of high net-worth individuals. (Rural land-rates here hover between Rs. 30 L - 1 Cr. per acre on an average). More than 85% of the families owning permanent RCC houses and vehicles. Slums mostly cleared up to 60%. Adequately urbanized with a decentralized growth model. Abounding in NRI families. But a highly casteist atmosphere with too much capitalistic bent of mind. As such they enjoy several types of upper hand which is viewed by others as hegemony.
Thus you can notice that Coasta is an object of envy for every other region. Its financial clout is something formidable and extraordinary from an Indian point of view. It still continues to be the economic powerhouse of the Telugu states, supplying them with all the capital and skillsets. Ironically, the region never encourages nor supports separatist movements. But its very existence and status is the main reason for all separatist movements. The rest are unable to accept it to be one of them. Had it been just ordinary like the rest of the Telugu regions, the Telugu unity would have been a reality for ever. (b) TELANGANA : 1,12,000 sq. KMs. with nearly 3.80 crores of population, of which nearly 1 crore live in Hyderabad alone. Growth is highly centralized in that metropolis which is a hub of higher education, IT, ITES, film industry and high-value industrial manufacturing, besides having a huge Defence research conglomerate. Not as fertile as Coasta. But it also has several fertile regions like Medak, Nizamabad, Karimnagar, Adilabad and parts of Warangal and Khammam. Can produce a lot more if irrigation is made available round the year. In fact, nearly 1 crore acres in Telanagna are definitely arable but do not receive the requisite irrigation for various reasons. But for the city of Hyderabad, mostly backward due to historical reasons. This region innately believes in socialist ideals.
(c) RAAYALA SEEMA : 67,000 sq.KMs. with 1.6 crore population. The unfortunate one among the Telugu brothers. Though the terrain is predominantly rocky, it is rich in some mineral resources. But all of them were in the hands of a few Seemites and therefore, not useful for the common good. It too has a few fertile pockets like Chittoor and parts of Kurnool. But the rest of RLS faces serial droughts, as rainfall is erratic and inadequate. The region has no river of its own but dependent on the mercy of other states for river water. In addition to its woes, it is also a land-locked region. But for the large towns of Tirupathi and Kurnool , no big city (at least of Amaravati’s size) exists here. There is a good number of small and medium sized towns which are essentially local trading hubs and service centres, but without any industrial manufacturing. As such, the job potential of this region is extremely limited. So most Seemites are constrained to migrate to Hyderabad, Bengaluru or Chennai for livelihood. The moneyed class of Rayala Seema is not assured of quick growth if they invested in their own region. So they too migrate along with their money to the aforementioned big cities to make investments. As a result, RLS is unable to reap any benefit from its own potential capitalists.
