A resolution to your light switch issue is to go with Lutron Caseta. No common wire needed, also it has a Pico remote that you link with that light and add it so it acts as a three way light switch
Great! I will start soon 👍

TP link Kasa also has 3 way smart switches, which is what was needed for your application.

great vid! we need more from you lol
Thank you! I’m almost done with my new office setup and should have the video up hopefully by Wednesday!
Change the Kasa Dimmer to a Lutron Smart Switch. It gives you the chance to add remotes and eliminates the 3 way extra wiring. This allows light control from the other points as well. Another plus the lutron switches work without a neutral.
Oh nice! I've heard really good things about Lutron and I'm most likely gonna make the switch over to them. Thanks for the info!
Lutron has been doing lighting and shades for over 50 years. They know their field top to bottom. I’ve installed them for clients a lot and I still recommend them.
@@LeeLechner can’t go wrong with the Lutron Casetta switches. Installed and just work no drip issues they just work and have the back up option of using the switch on the wall when needed.
Agreed love my lutron..I only install kasa in areas of my home where I don't feel to spend $75 a switch.
Very nice set up! You should do as I did and remove the chain from your garage door and replace it with a kneaded cable. That makes it more adorable, illuminates to need to have to oil the chain since there is no chain and it’s quiet as hell not to mention that it’ll add years of life to your garage door system.
Thanks for your support!

I have several 3 way smart witches and always only install one 3 way switch.
Does not matter what the position of the dumb switch is in, the smart switch will work and I’m able to create routines since the smart switch is there. Just fyi.
Thanks for watching!

Lutron caseta 3 way switches. These are nice bc they have amazing reliability and customer service. But to answer your question the 3 ways (2 switches on different walls for 1 light) come with 1 switch you wire in (all caseta dimmables don't need a neutral wire either) and a 'Pico remote' that can be simple placed right over the 2nd switches box with no wiring at all and looks exactly like a regular switch, with the addition of a $8 bracket. And if you only have 1 switch the Pico can be used as a remote carried around, taped with 3m (comes included on a detachable back clip) to you coffee table, bed, kitchen counter, or really anywhere. Plus the 3 way package is only maybe $10 more than the single switch and you get the pico which was a no brainer for me. Although they are a bit pricey, you will know where your money went after you get them installed and learn 'em. I bought a caseta and another brand when I first started, ended up returning the other, and finished my whole house with caseta and never looked back. Out of all my smart home devices (and its a very very long list) I would say the caseta switches are number #1 or #2 on my highest recommendations of smart home products (in competition for 1st with a few of my eufy devices). If you'd like some more info feel free to give me a shout and I can send you some pics or info to better explain.
Oh, and since I wanted the caseta switches everywhere, but also wanted colored bulbs on my whole main floor, I used caseta non-dimmable switches (since the smart bulbs are already dimmable) and proved that the mass majority of people who say smart switches can't be used and won't work with smart bulbs are entirely wrong. I also have all caseta 5 speed fan switches for my 5 ceiling fans (they offer just the fan or a fan and light switch that's also dimmable with 5 speed fan, if the fan has a light), and the other dimmable light with 5 speed fan for my bathroom vents with lights, that they offer. I just started working on a UA-cam video for all this but feel free to give me a shout with any questions. Nice house BTW man. Congratulations.

Sense you can control the lights with the switch or through your wi-fi system, I would just take out the second switch and connect the wires straight through.. Check local electrical codes first before doing so. You will need to have a blank cover plate so people know there is power in there. I'm planning on having single switches in my new home just for that reason. Maybe put in a receptacle and install a night light that turns on automatically or is very low light level.

For the switches, i use Zooz 3 way switches. You need to have a smart switch at each switch location but theyre cheaper and still work great. I have them installed in all but 2 or 3 places

I just added this video to my smart home tour playlist, did you end up changing your switches at all?
Great video. I have the same 3 pack of Ring cameras plus solar panels on each one, it’s the only way to go. It would be neat if the cameras has built in solar panels though. I also have 6 Echo Dot 3’s around the house as well. I have Feit smart bulbs and plugs from Costco.

Cool video and great information. Just wanted to let you know that a basement is not technically a floor of a home. You would technically have 2 floors and a basement officially.
I never understood subscription based security. I use a xiaomi security camera, can view it anywhere around the world and record on a local hard drive as well, but I never have to pay for anything aside from the hardware. Am I missing out on something great with the ring branded ones?

One thing I would say is, don't be afraid of mixing brands. Most everything is Alexa controllable, and even big brand automation manufacturers seek that compatibility. Plus, all you need to do is stuff those various apps in one folder on your phone and out of sight out of mind. Go with what works for you in your application.
Congratulations 🎉Great fan,🎖💫

Also just letting you know, the amount of wire that you stripped for the switch you put in on video was very long. This could cause a short inside the box if not careful. Maybe a tip for the future.
Immediate like for putting networking as the first point. Too many people get into smart homes and because no guide told them how important networking is, they have a bad time.

This is eerily similar to my new home. Same fridge, ring, same switches, switching to Alexa from google home. I recently got a couple Facebook portals for like $50 each from Best Buy which are pretty nice looking, cheap Alexa devices.
Why did you decide to switch from google to alexa?
Just out of curiosity, Is there a reason you didn't go with Home Kit? Looks like you're in the Apple eco system.
I'm going to start using it more. The main reason why is because my fiancé uses a Google Pixel and REFUSES to give Apple products a shot (for right now). She's obviously missing out haha. But, because of that, I wanted to start off our smart house so that we could both use everything easily enough
which product did you use to find the electricity in the wire? (i mean the yellow pencil)

This fridge screen is a cool idea but, I think it's overkill
Right now, I agree with you here. I'm glad it came with the house purchase. It's nice to have, but right now, I'm not doing much with it besides still using it as an Alexa device, calendar, and seeing the time/weather.
@@LeeLechner I bought one about a year ago. I can't help but think it'd be much better if it just ran Android instead of Tizen.

Great title, great video but Ring stuff is terrible 🤢
What would you recommend otherwise? Building my house now and I have run the wires for the camera. Looking for an option with local storage and remote monitoring ideally on google home.
@@jollz45 Lorex is a pretty good bet with their HDIP line, I recommend POE cameras 10/10 times. You have to run a cat 5e cable to each camera but if you're building thats easy. Lorex or Unifi are my 2 go to's unifi is really expensive though
@@sookysoy Thanks for the info on this! I'm going to look into Lorex, Unifi, and I saw Reolink as well as a potential option. Appreciate the feedback! I've been pretty happy with my Ring cameras so far, but I also had a general idea of what to expect with them (so not super high standards). But I'm betting that comparing them to a POE camera would be a day and night difference. Thanks for the feedback here!
