Enemies is a mostly instrumental math-pop band who write cathartic tropical jams to ward off the dreary cloud-cover of their UK home. They're an exceptional group of musicians whose colorful guitar tones chatter back and forth with the rhythm section's shrewd beat construction while leaping across a multitude of time signatures. Enemies makes mathematical, nerdy rock feel sunny, reflective and downright optimistic. Though often extremely technical, their playful musical banter illuminates the strength of grasp this quartet has on writing pop hooks. as opposed to Erin Tate (back when he was with minus the bear), who always looked like he was about to kill himself
I've heard a lot of trash talk about their new drummer, but I really like his style compared to tate's. He's not as much of a "niche" as tate's drumming was to MTB, but I think he brings a well put together sound for the group. Oh, and Enemie's drummer is a nice dude. He replies to his youtube video comments haha.
I have no talent and don't know anything technical about music. I do know what makes me feel good and when somebody is enjoying what they do. I love how he plays and how much he smiles and laughs when doing it. Makes me smile, too.
Erin Tate is a helluva drummer and a nice guy, but had his own problems around the time he left the band. I think of myself as a nice guy, but I know I'm concentrating so hard when I'm playing drums with my band, I look grumpy, haha
This drummer has an incredible coordination I can only desire to own.
Lorenz Resurreccion I saw him live with Plini last summer and he was really rad!
this is so fuckxing sick. Like, top 5 audiotree sessions IMHO. Not to mention they just seem like awesome dudes who loved what they were doing. So bummed I never got a chance to see these guys live.

Agreed man, wish I saw them before they finished! Some of their projects now I think are Royal Yellow and EHCO, think the drummer is in a band called Meltybrains? Too.

Man I just love this, I have watched it probably around 20 times!! I miss these guys. AUDIOTREE get Enemies back in for a reunion!! They can talk about what they are doing now and jam for all of us one last time!!! I can wish right?

What they are talking about with the dual drums and the new drummer trying to learn both parts is how i felt when i heard early Appleseed Cast because I had never seen them play and the original drummer used an Ice Bell along with his ride bell and i thought as a drummer myself "how is this guy pulling this off?" , then i saw the making of Low Level Owl and saw him hit his ice bell that was to the right of his hi hats and then it all made sense!

@@Gnarrkhaz Got that right brother. I'd love to see them perform the whole "Home Alone" album. Totorro are such artists. Their music videos are always super clever and/or very creative.

They did. It was edited out of this video for some (still unexplained) reason. Unfortunate, since it's one of their most ambitious songs, and as such, technically challenging to perform. They pulled it off with nary a hitch.
This was great live. Chat was so good. I hope those two Evans are still friends now.

I love how the bass player talked about adding odd time signatures but not over doing it. That’s one of the reasons I love enemies compared to a lot of math rock bands. I’m not a fan of the sporadic and chaotic sounds. They have a flow and everything sounds smooth.
I've been listening to these guys for a little while now, and I've noted they remind me of "Big Country": A very similar sound, despite differences in geography.

Is it me or does the new drummer's style sound denser?
If by "denser" you mean "fuller," then yes. He adds a distinctive element that wasn't present before. (That's an objective comparison, not a slight on Oisin.)
It sounds like he counts off Indian Summer in 4/4, but the time signature sounds much different than that. Can someone whose better at music than me tell me how the hell this song is counted? lol
Dana Loux the time signature sounds like 7/4. Hence why he counts 4 at the top.
The intro of the song sounds to me like a combination in between 7/8 and 4/4
