Just put a split charger on my 2012 caddy. Perfect route. There is a grommet where the main loom goes through the firewall. Need to remove airbox, battery and battery tray. A pair of long nose pliers to poke through the grommet and pull through the passenger footwell. Cable is then routed under the centre plastics.... Don't have to remove them just slips under. Then to the passenger footwell. Looks tidy wouldn't know it's there.
Sir.. I used a cargo spilt charger.. all was working well to start with , now all im getting is a clicking sound and the spit charger keep going off and on every few seconds. Would this be a bad earth? Thanks and hope you can help
Hi does the the small black from the split charge relay need to be grounded on the starter battery or can I have it grounded on the leisure battery ? Cheers
Hi there, may I ask what split charger you purchased? I’m looking to buy one and also get a leisure battery too for my caddy, for window cleaning. Any recommendations for battery’s too ? Cheers
I am building a leisure battery for my Volkswagen van. Off of my split charger for my secondary battery, can I use a lithium battery, even though the battery the powers my engine for the van is not lithium. Can I get away with having my secondary battery be lithium?
I want something that’s going to hold up for a long time though. I’ve asked this question on a couple different videos hoping somebody has a definite answer for me. At Home Depot they have these small little lawnmower ride along type lawnmowers, that use little lithium batteries. Smaller than a car battery that only weighs a few pounds. I wonder if something like that would work?
@@Trentmatthews i have a agm leisure battery running of split relay.. You will need to put an isolator switch from relay to leisure battery, when i turn on van i turn isolator on so it charges battery as my leisure battery holds more charge than starter if rear battery is full it starts putting charge into starter and draining to starter battery power levels so when engines off i turn isolator off. If charging leisure battery from mains without isolator switch it confuses chargers leading to all kinds of beef.. There are smart relays now think a ctek duo costs £450
Was looking where to put the positive wire and found your video!! Thank you so much, it's amazing.!!!
Very good, didn't realise it was that easy, save me the fitting cost 👍

Do you have any pics mate of this as I’m going to attempt to in my caddy maxi next week. Thanks 🙏🏼
Cheers pal I'm doing the same to my caddy first video and Ive learned everything I need to. Just got mine up and running 👍
Legend, thanks for the tip very nearly drilled through my firewall but this is miles better 👍
Well explained and great idea.....stay safe....thanks for sharing
I've got a 14 plate caddy, will this set up be OK, or do I need to connect to alternator?

absolutely cracking that, have you got a list of materials used?

How exactly did you test you’re ground/earth with the multimeter? What did you test between and what reading were you looking for? Thanks! 👍
Test the live feed coming from the van battery and on the other end a ground. If it shows 12v its completing the circuit so a ground
Thanks for that - very helpful
Your videos are very clear thank you 🙏
What length cables did u use for battery?
Good video can’t wait for cheap mods pt2
Thanks! What's the gauge of the wire?
Not sure i think its about 50 amp cable but it comes in the kit on ebay which I recomend buying for easy of install
no fuse at battery source ? and loose positive in the wing is not a great idea,
perfect fire waiting to happen.
It is fused and still going strong
proper cowboy work with the wires wrapped around the battery terminals too...
Aren't these installed with "smart" alternators now? Which makes the relay useless. My Caddy model is from 2012.
They might be, mine doesn’t have a smart alternator its a 2011
yeah if they have stop start tech. then you need a DC to DC relay
@@paulbullimore2871 yeah I found out the 2012 model didn't have it, I installed the split relay between batteries and charging worked fine
Good Batteries those
Good show ol chap good show!
Nice 👍
