Being a convicted felon, in the great state of SC, and having done some time, I cannot agree with you more. When I first got out, it literally took me a year and a half to get a decent job that just took advantage of the fact that I was on parole. Finished parole and left that company… Fast forward to today, I run a well drilling company that I now own part of. I’m married. I have a son who I’m training to be a well driller… Life is good for me. Anyone can screw up in life… It’s how you handle it after the fact that will define the true character of an individual… Great story!!!
Honestly Rob this had to have been one of the most evocative stories you’ve told on your channel. Something about it got me thinking a lot about life, can’t wait to hear the stories of 22.
If you judge people solely on past mistakes then none of us would come out looking very good. It’s not about whether or not you messed up, it’s whether or not you learn from it. Thanks for the video.
I am a criminal defense attorney, and many clients don't want you to judge them (obviously). I tell some of them that we have all messed up at times but it comes down to two things. First, some are lucky enough to never get caught while others aren't so lucky. Second, did you learn from your F*** up or not? If you did, this is probably a worthwhile situation to be in. If not, here is my card.... I had plenty of run-ins with the law in the younger years, but you live and learn and (hopefully) grow as a person. Never too late.
I want to say how much we all just love these stories. But to tell you that I gotta go back and tell you this story - glad I found you through Ed and vinwiki. Rest in power, brother!
When Miami Vice was popular, an electric shaver designed to leave a bit of extra stubble came on the market under the name The Miami Device. I can’t believe that it’s the explanation, though.
Absolutely agree my son is a convicted felon . Did his time got out and completely turned his life around and I am so very proud of him ! He is married now and I have a beautiful 2 year old granddaughter that I am completely in love with and she is spoiled by me and her grandmother. Thanks for bringing light to this subject it is proof that people can turn their life's around !
My uncle Nick is a car slanging cow boy of the Lynnwood Everett lake Stevens area from the 80s and 90s growing listening to his stories and him showing me "a few old car salesman tricks" were always one of my favorite things to do , I started watching these pod casts awhile back while out in the shop working on the whips and it's just like being at Uncle Nicks again. thanks rabbit your alright brother.
Thanks for sharing, Rob. Great story, as always. Goes to show that we all can use a little forgiveness, as well as a little humility. Be well and keep doing your thing.
I have known many con men over the years. I once heard one comment on a guy we both knew well. He said with great admiration. He would sell you a radio. And leave you with nothing but the music.
Them old guys who been there and done that are some of teh best friends to have. They are gonna make you smile and watch your back. Hope your old friend RIP.
I bought my first "classic" a few weeks ago. An 89 town car signature series with 70k miles for 5500 bucks. Replaced the cooling system and going to mostly daily it until car prices go down
I worked with a guy repossesing cars in the Gary/ Valparaiso area... Lets just call this guy "Frank". Getting into repo work I never quite felt comfortable just taking a car that was in someone else's driveway. "Frank" always told me act like you're doing nothing wrong and you're golden. He said if you got keys walk up like you own it, "fire and burn tire" as he put it. If not "hook it and book it"...lol. i only stayed at the job a few weeks and got out of that line of work... repossesing cars in Gary can be scary. So I ran into "Frank" years later and I ask him where he's been (hadn't seen him in like 6 years) he tells me he had gotten 5 years in prison for auto theft. How? He then tells me that 90% of the repossesion orders were fake and they printed those to fool any police into thinking it's a repossesion. He'd always go "repossesing" on a Friday night. Being closed for the weekend by the time the owner called the finance company on Monday and figured out it was a sham and the car was stolen the car was long gone. I had watched this guy stand there and wait for the police and casually have a conversation when they show up, show them the fake paperwork, and the cop tells the owner to let him do his job and take the car! Lmao. Guy was criminally genius and had the biggest balls ever. "Frank" passed in 2020 from complications of lung cancer and covid but this story made me think of him. RIP "Frank"
I met some dandy people when i was a detailer . you learn some tricks and ins and outs . we can learn alot from folks you wouldnt think would have much to teach .
In Nashville Tennessee where I lived 1980's. A Metro unmarked police car sat at 2nd avn and Broadway. Was locked up running a marked car was there trying to get the car unlocked. I watched then went got my plyers, coat hanger and prize tool. Unlocked the car real quick for the detective (other officers were butt heads). Detective said " your in the wrong business" I said No I don't look good in stripes ( prison garb back then).

Rob. I'm Trying to buy a vortec 5.3 and I've seen allot of " lower miles" engines on ebay. Is it safe to buy an engine they're?? Are they telling the truth on the milage ect.. Thanks

It was mutual combat, dude started a fight and got trashed, I rag dolled dude and people called 911 but dude took the L and left.
