- Pet Care Veterinarian Dr. Tony Poutous along with Veterinary Assistant Elizabeth Cleary demonstrate the proper way to medicate a pet bird. Also shown is how to clip wings and nails.
That is one unusually calm toweled parrot. I'm impressed, as my little guy loses his mind at the mere sight of a towel!
She was glad she did. The vet had the equipment there and the one of her birds had not had it's beak, nails or wings trimmed in a long time. The beak or nails she said bled a little at the vets but they stopped it. I draw blood samples on my dogs at home but here lately I have given it a rest b/c I feel better when the vet does it. I even stopped giving their shots b/c I wanted it on record, even though we live in the boonies & can legally give their shots here.
For the record, most anything can be learned, but even I as a vet tech student prefer to seek the professional advise and services of wonderful veterinarians like yourself and know our animals are in good hands and receiving the best care available. Although, I learned also how to draw 2 blood samples on 2 blue catfish & that was self-taught just by reading a book w/pics in it on how to do it and properly & I didn't have any trouble either. :D

Very interesting. But I see fit bringing birds to an expert such as yourself. Wouldn't take much to injure that wing if the bird struggles. Especially the nail trim where they can bleed to death or so I heard it can happen with cats and dogs w/ a clotting disorder. But yeah, if the client knows what they're doing and has experience. Wing trims are best left to the DVM like you. My friend recently acquired her birds & I said have the vet do those procedures first.
