    Looks more like a bug in the RC600. Maybe what you can do is monitor what is being sent from that other MIDI controller that you used, and then replicating it on the MC8 and see if it resolves your issue?
    MIDI is just 1s and 0s being sent and received. The MIDI messages are definitely still being sent from the MC8 (if you have another MIDI device, you can use that to verify), it just looks like the RC600 isn't responding for whatever reason. You can drop us an email and we'll be happy to troubleshoot the issue for you.

      Thank you. Yes, I love the MC8. It seems to be an issue with the RC600 and its ability to process midi. I have no idea why plugging in a different midi controller suddenly makes it work. Seems very strange. The MC8 is sending midi. The RC600 just suddenly decides it doesn't want to listen to it. But I plug in a Kenton Spin Doctor and suddenly the RC600 says "ok, we've got midi!" and then I replug in the MC8 and it continues to accept midi. Very strange bug indeed.

      @@MattBoltonMusic Thanks! I'm curious about this bug as well. If possible, can you try this and see if it works?
      1. Connect the Spin doctor MIDI OUT to the MC8 MIDI IN
      2. Turn MIDI Thru ON on the MC8
      3. Disconnect/Reconnect the cable to to the RC600 to trigger the bug and confirm that it can't receive MIDI from MC8
      4. Turn the knob on the Spin Doctor. This will send MIDI messages to the MC8, which will pass it thru to the RC600.
      Does the issue resolve with these steps?

    Jeez, well done for figuring that out in the fifteen minutes you had... talk about keeping a cool head. This vid came at a very good time, as we were just digging Mat's MC6 out of storage and thinking about all the possibilities... 🤣

      I didn't figure it out in the 15 minutes I had. I had to play the gig without my midi controller. I was forced to tap dance on the pedals to get to functions that the midi controller mc8 is designed to make easy. I'm not discouraging the use of MIDI. I hope you two dig the MC6 out and see if you have the same issue. Please assign the controller to the RC600 assign functions and then unplug the midi cables and power and plug it back in, in different combinations and see if you can get MC6 to fail. I'd love to know what happens when someone else tests this.

    Thanks for the info. Definitely sense your frustration. Warning has been received.

    • @MattBoltonMusic
      @MattBoltonMusic  2 роки тому

      Yes, it's incredibly frustrating. Because when it works it perfect. But if I can get it MIDI to go in to a state of irredeemable failure with a certain combination of unplugging cables and resetting power, then it is VERY scary. Because if that happens by accident before a gig, you're out of luck and are left with no way to MIDI control the RC600. I'm hoping there's something I'm missing, and I will put my foot in my mouth if someone can tell me what I'm doing wrong with the MC8 or RC600. I'm trying different power sources, I've tried different cables...nothing seems to restart the MIDI other than using a different controller and then switching back to the MC8. That's why it is so confusing. What is it about the Kenton controller that suddenly wakes up the function of the RC600 MIDI again? Why does it go to sleep and the MC8 can't bring it back to life until AFTER you plug in an alternative midi controller? So strange. If the answer is "well, just don't unplug the midi cable or the power supply to the MC8 while the RC600 is on". That's not good enough, because accidents happen. If I accidentally remove the power supply to the MC8 or the cable to the MIDI, I'm left with no way to control the RC600 via MIDI. I'm not trying to discourage midi use. This just needs to be addressed, what's the solution?

    Hi Matt, nice to see a fellow looper using midi controlling, got my rc600 recently and needed more buttons to use all the functionality :) I ended up with a very similar setup, 2x fs6, ev5 and mp100/midi commander. Looked at the fcb1010 but it was just too big for my pedalboard. The mp100 is very affordable and works really good with the rc600 (see my last vid), very interesting bug, we will se if I encounter smth similar, but now I am prepared, thank you!

    The first thing I would try is connecting the MIDI out straight to the MIDI in on the RC600, one cable. And then do some things like a restart, changing the MIDI channel, just stuff to wake the MIDI up and drain whatever is 'hanging' in the system. I haven't had that issue, but that's what I would try in a panic :)

    Matt… great videos! Thank you so much! I just got the RC 600 and have two questions I was wondering if you could help with:
    1. When I first turned on my unit, the fourth knob below the screen was master effects reverb, But when I turn it, it just changes from modes one, two, and three. I tried customizing all four knobs by moving the master reverb to the third knob and putting master compression to the fourth knob. When I did, I could control master compression from 0 to 100, but my master reverb on the third knob still just changed the modes. Ie…I can’t apply reverb to everything such as the rhythm sounds, like I used to on my boss RC 505.
    2. Do you know if it’s possible for me to queue up the next track instead of it being instant? Ie, I know I can build a three-part song, for example, on tracks one, two, and three (where one is the verse, two is the chorus, and three is the Outro). But I want to queue up those tracks rather than hit them right on time (when the chorus should start). In other words, I put my verse on track one and set it to single mode instead of multi, and then I made my chorus on track two and also set it to single mode instead of multi. But while track one’s loop is playing, if I hit track two’s play button, I was hoping that it wouldn’t instantly switch from track one to track to right then but rather start playing track two after track one’s loop is done. But every time I click track two, it instantly switches in the middle of track one’s loop. Does that make sense?
    Thanks so much!

      @MattBoltonMusic  2 роки тому +1

      1. Check your assigns. It sounds like you have master reverb as a source for a mode change assign maybe. I don't know. Sounds very frustrating. Sorry to hear it.
      2. Don't really understand what you're asking.
      Maybe Go to loop, play, s.trk change.
      and try changing that maybe. Not sure. I don't use serial/single mode. Sorry

      @@MattBoltonMusic thank you Matt! I got an answer from a few people online. The first issue is solved by updating the firmware. It was a known glitch. And the second issue… you’re right. Thanks!

    I think I found a local fix for this. Change the channel number (1-16) on the RC600 that it’s looking for the midi in. If you’re sending to all channels it shouldn’t matter where you go but if you’re on a specific channel then go to a different channel and back to the one you require.

    This is not the first video of a Boss looper having MIDI issues that I watched. I have an RC-500 Loop station and had an MD-200 as a slave to sync the timing of the Slicer effect with the drums / metronome of the RC-500. The MD-200 responds well to the MIDI changes but when I play the loop and turn on the Slicer effect the timimg is really Off. So this mighr be a Boss issue.

    appreciate your content. I'm struggling with this and can't find away around it unfortunately. I'm in mode 1. I want bank 1 to be receiving my drums from an external source. I want to be able to play that at a short loop say of 4 beats. I want that to be the bpm of the track so I set that first and it saves me looping drums for say 4 x 4 beats.
    I then want to go in to bank 2 and set a loop length say of 12 bars.
    now this is where it gets tricky and can't figure it out. say I've recorded guitar rhythm in bank two and now want to add other parts like harmonies or bass parts on the guitar. I want to add that to bank 3.
    for some reason they won't quantize together and the loop seems off. I know there's a global quantize but is there a way to set it so that when I set drums for 4 bars that banks two and three can be played longer but be quantized together?
    you can do this on the rc300 just by putting bank 1 in free mode and other two banks in auto mode.
    I bought this pedals for sound quality improvements, more inputs and outputs but it doesn't seem to do the one thing I want it to. I'll have to take it back otherwise.

    • @MattBoltonMusic
      @MattBoltonMusic  Рік тому +1

      I did not. If you leave everything plugged in all the time (like a pedalboard) it should be fine. Every once and a while when I'm moving stuff around on my pedalboard it stops working. Last time it happened I tried plugging it in while it was booting up and that seemed to fix it. I also changed the MIDI channel from 1 to 2 and back to 1 so that might be what restarted and reinvigorated the MIDI. I don't know. It's mostly reliable. I use it every night and you see how much I play gigs. MIDI in general isn't perfect. It's an add on. The machine talks to itself in its own language. MIDI is like a translation. That being said, the morningstar is the best translator on the planet.

      You need any usb midi controller that is programmable/editable. You also need to pair the usb midi controller with a midi host box to convert the usb to 5pin midi for the 600. Korg nanokontrol2 paired with a midi host would do what you want. Edit the fader to send a cc message at location cc#81 for example. Use the assigns to have the source be cc81 and the target track 1 volume. Read the manual front to back of all products. Every question is answered in the RC600 manual and the Nanokontrol manual.

      Not sure what you're asking, but you can create a drum beat and the RC600 figures out the tempo internally. You can then have the input delays synced to the tempo. 600 isn’t all that buggy. Watch my channel’s hundreds and hundreds of hours of live content. The 600 never does anything I don’t tell it to do. It never has a hitch. Never does anything unexpected. I’ve been gigging with it 3 hour a night 6 nights a week for over a year. No problems. Every time it does something weird that I didn’t want it to do it was because I pressed something wrong or had a setting wrong 🤷‍♂️
      The more tech or programming languages you add into a system the more problems you set yourself up for. MIDI is added language. It has issues. Things get lost in translation. Third party hardware. External languages. Etc. more entropy. The RC600 and most pedals communicate within with their own proprietary code. MIDI needs to be translated. That’s why there are issues.

      I meant unplug it while the RC-600 is on and replug it back in. It might not fail every time but it quite possibly will. The Morningstar doesn’t fail every time but it does occasionally. I leave it always plugged in for this reason. It seems to be a problem with the RC-600 not the Morningstar. Unplugging the midi while both units are running occasionally causes the midi to “short out” for lack of a better term. Midi is and always will be a bit finicky, it works with relative consistency. But if you use it enough you’ll see that it’s got it’s unreliability flaws.
