Thanks for idea with stickers, I though to use ordinary sheet of paper and painter’s tape on the egdes.
Ruth, maybe you rtied to print on lazer printers? If the fabric will be used for embroidery only, not for washing, it will be ok for colours safery?

I have no idea if that would work, but if it is an old printer maybe it would work, but it might break it!
I don't believe it works with laser printers, but I am not sure I am afraid.
As long as you use good ink (not cheap ink) it should be fine for colour, but I wouldn't put the piece in the sunlight or it may still fade
