I remember how people chastised him for missing this free kick. I acknowledge that when you have one last kick of the ball at 1-0 down in a WC final, expectation goes awry. That expectation explodes the moment Messi hits it but quickly fades as the ball soars high above the goal. That tantalising waiting in between the foul and the free kick perfectly describes the inflated expectations people have always had on Messi to save the day, no matter what. Eight years later, he is still Argentina's most important player (by some distance), but these days, he has a solid unit backing him with individuals who play every single game as if it were their last. football is just a game. Players should try their best, but at the end of the day, the fans should recognize that it's an entertainment sport and nothing important hinges on it. People be calling the 2022 tournament rigged , but they ignore the earlier World cups hypocritically where messi suffered the most both personally and socially.
We all know when people mocked him a lot when he lost the Wc in 2014 and 2018. And when he finally won it , people be calling it rigged, HYPOCRISY at its peak.
Messi shoot 5 times more penalty in 2022 world cup than all his other world cups combined.

And why would FIFA give messi the preference? Fifa has 10x more money than messi....and if they want to get more viewership through messi winning the world cup, they should have gone for ronaldo to reach the finals cause ronaldo has clearly more fans...😂so stfu calling it rigged.
1:57 so hard to watch. BUT HE WON THEY WON 2022! IT IS DONE
This clip doesn't 💔 me anymore
I understand this pain on another level now
He deserved this trophy more than cristiano this is something he wanted since he was a little boy, ronaldo just wanted to be the best and so the the ending of their career ended up projecting that
Most desereved trophy ever he fought so hard and was broken down to pieces even retiring in 2016, but he came back he trained harder and when you are his teammate in the argentine locker room you will realize this is a man who truly loved this country and wanted to bring it home which is why the coach and players simply love him and play for him which worked at the end. Theres no a way a human being can see someone work this unrealistically hard and they just see it as oh its football, no that motivated them and made them believe. Now 40 games and they only lost vs saudi arabia
Grande Leo ❤
Back in 2022 When now The prime messi Is ended As well now he become a Fifa boy Rn
The Ronaldo hate is crazy. Ronaldo has always wanted the World Cup because Portugal NEVER WON IT IN ITS HISTORY. Argentina already had 2 before Messi, and Messi needed to win Argentina’s 3rd to solidify his argument against Maradona as Argentina’s GOAT.
this is when messi decided to become the best freekick taker in the world
it was destiny.. for us to suffer and hold on and suffer a lot..thn comes the world cup.. it was written in the stars...
it may not be now but its never never. he did it finally

Messi must
For me if messi prevented himself from that tackle they would gotten a goal because if you look closer in the beginning of the video there is alot of good chances like dribbling past the defenders or the through ball at 0:03
It was good that he didnt score because it was just the comeback 8 years later.

Yeah, group stage. Pretty big difference if u ask mr6
Group stage against de gea who in the same match make a mistake for the first goal of ronaldo💀
And yeah he scores
That was his better world cup
4 goals in matches
But only Scores in 2 matches
And now do the same against the best manuel neuer
Guys thank gotze becuz he actually saved messi,s wc career cuz if he won that game he wouldve retired and we woudlnt see argentina win the wc

if version of today messi took that free kick, argentina would be wc 2014 champion after penalties, i swear
i doubt it. As much as i am a messi fan one can dream of scoring a free kick from that distance in a world Cup final against a BEAST german side.
Even if he scored, theres no way the rest of the team would be able to beat neuer in a shootout
It doesn't matter if it's Messi or any other player. Only God himself could beat this team. The most complete team in this tournament.
Lionel Messi 🐐

feel bad for him and people were making fun of him even his own fans while he dragged Argentina to the world cup final 2014,copa america 2015,2016 final and 2019 semi finals.
Damn I wish this happened again last world cup
This game changed Messi game plan and free kick technique. Imagine already a GOAT contender but still felt the need to improve. I would say that Messi still has that contagious drive that will allow Argentina to win the next World Cup as well, and Messi will come off the bench to score a free kick in the last minute.
football is just a game. Players should try their best, but at the end of the day, the fans should recognize that it's an entertainment sport and nothing important hinges on it. The problem is, there are a lot of unhinged losers who use football as an outlet for their rage and hatred, so they either abuse the losing team or they abuse their own players if they lose. Messi is the best at football, but that doesn't make him a god, a saint, or a superior being. He's just a guy who's really good with a ball.
