Having sensitive skin, I'm always careful about trying new skincare products. However, after hearing great things about littleexttera riceberry vit C serum, I decided to give it a shot. I've been using it for about 3 months now, and I'm very happy with the results. The serum has a mild formula that hasn't caused any redness on my sensitive skin. It is quickly absorbed and leaves my skin feeling moisturized and smooth. I've noticed improvements in the overall tone and texture of my skin-it looks more even and radiant. I use the serum every morning as part of my skincare routine, and it works beautifully under my rice berry sunscreen and makeup. The packaging is basic yet functional, though I do wish it gave more product per pump. Despite that small concern, I would suggest this serum to those with sensitive skin looking to add Vitamin C to their skincare routine. It's been a gentle yet powerful addition to my skincare regimen so far.
Typically, l-ascorbic acid has a shelf life of 2 years whether or not is in powder form or crystals. L-ascorbic acid can oxidize over time and lose its activity.
wondering why, after a month of search with the same keywords, UA-cam has finally displayed this video as its top result. Now I have found the right video.
High-molecular weight hyaluronic acid (HA) does not readily dissolve in water and more than 2% will not dissolve. HA needs to be carefully sprinkled into the water under constant high-speed stirring (preferably with a hand mixer or vortex mixer). Typical concentration is at 0.1 - 2% of HA (1g of HA and 100ml of water). The mixture starts then thickening quickly and becomes a gel. At that point no additional HA can be added as there is no water left for HA to be dissolved in (additional HA would only form lumps).
Hi I know this is kinda late but is it possible to replace the water with an oil (ie sunflower, grapeseed, etc) to make a sort of vitamin c oil/oil serum and maybe increase shelf life?
nsana lush I did some research and it seems like we’ll have to replace the typical l ascorbic acid with ascorbyl palmitate which is fat soluble. And use that in anhydrous products like butters (not just oil cuz it’ll be unstable but I’m not giving up on a vit c oil recipe 😂)and emulsions for it to work like a water soluble vit c serum while hving a longer shelf life. So for now I’ll probably do both or just the vit c butter/cream with ascorbyl palmitate. I’ll leave the link: formulabotanica.com/best-form-vitamin-c-in-natural-skincare/ Hope it helps lol
I have clients that suffer of blemishes, hyperpigmentation in black woman and would love to see more videos with a combo of how to blend kojic acid, licorice, b3 in a serum or adding to an existing cream. I'd love to start sending them home with home routines. thank you!
Yes, you can make this serum also with SAP and any other vitamins as long as it is water-soluble. If you want to preserve it we recommend to use phenoxyethanol-SA (www.makingcosmetics.com/Phenoxyethanol-SA_p_243.html) or also a natural antimicrobial (www.makingcosmetics.com/Natural-Antimicrobials_c_135.html)
Criminally underrated channel! Do DIY retinol next! Question: if I add a germicide like phenoxyethanol it wouldn't do a thing to its shelf life since its the oxidation of ascorbic acid in aqueous solution that is the limiter of effectiveness for this particular DIY, right? So about 10 days seems right AA to have oxidized 50%? Cheers!! pd: this type of channel can explode nowadays, just up the video game for competitiveness and you'll be golden
Thanks for the compliments. As for your question: it takes much longer than just 10 days until AA has oxidized 50%. To the best of my knowledge about 3 months. Phenoxyethanol should still be effective even AA starts oxidizing. A limiting factor could be a decreasing pH.
Amazing video, I have always referred to this when making serum after many years. I been using a vitamin C supplement which has berries, etc.. powder form. Do you think it’s just as effective as the absorbic acid that you use?
If I wold like the jelly like texture of a serum, could i add hyaluronic acid at the end? Are thy okay together? Could you share a type of preservatives that could go into this formula too? Big thanks for the vid!!
But when you apply the mixture on your skin, vitamin C recrystallizes. Crystallized vitamin C can’t penetrate skin. And if it can’t do that, it won’t work as an antioxidant.
Please would you confirm ... If I were to use Hyaluronic Acid powder and no glycerol then how much water and how much hyaluronic acid powder do I need to put in it to keep the 10% strength of the serum?
i noticed that you weighed everything for the serum, but for mixing the vitamin c powder into the lotion you just mixed unmeasured amounts together. is there a guideline there, or does it just not matter for that method of delivery?
If we omit the glycerine and recalculate the amount we should you to achieve a specific concentration, does that affect the shelf life of the final serum? Can I use aloe vera gel and a little bit of water (no glycerine) in stead of just water? Thank you
how many mg of vitamin c product can i add to 1 liter of water? You said... about 50-100g of vitamin C per 1L of water. Is it safe to drink after the procedure?
If the entire water portion was replaced with glycerin would it last longer just using vitamin c and glycerin? Can Aloe vera juice be used to replace the water? And if so, does it destabilize as quickly? The serum in the video looks very thin, what can be used to thicken? Can this mixture be added to a base as an active ingredient? Thank you!
You can replace the water by glycerin. When added directly to the skin the glycerin will feel a bit tacky. You can also use it as a mix, and add few drops to a dose of moisturizer as an active, mix it in the palm of your hand and then apply to the skin. This way you apply it fresh and it not degrading. Aloe Vera contains water and will also degrade the vitamin c.
Do I need to test the ph on this one? That is the thing that confuses me about making it at home. I don't really understand how to. Also, can you add this to other products ok? THanks so much for this video and detailed information in the description area. YES!

Why not just use MAP? I have just purchased my second jar of it from you guys and it works great to even my skin. I add to it my finished lotion. Can I substitute that for the L ascrbic acid in this?

Hi, the vitamin c powder is acidic and will destabilize the cream, resulting in separation. Also when the vitamin c powder is mixed into a product that also contains water, it degrades and quickly looses it's anti-oxidant effect.
My guess is that you don't add it to the container in which your cream is. Instead you take some of your cream in the palm of your hand and mix the vitamin C powder into it. That is a fresh mix and since it is used immediately there is no chance of destabilising and/or separating.

L-ascorbic acid won't crystallize on the skin. It is highly water-soluble and penetrates immediately.

Yes, that should be possible.
Good information, thanks. I have a question, can the powder vitamin C you have added to the moisturizing cream change its chemical properties? I read somewhere that's not good to mix vitamin c with face creams.
Hi, the vitamin c powder is acidic and will destabilize the cream, resulting in separation. Also when the vitamin c powder is mixed into a product that also contains water, it degrades and quickly looses it's anti-oxidant effect.
+MakingCosmetics I am confused now... so why you suggested to add it in the cream?
A little contradictory. Add into cream or not....
My guess is that you don't add it to the container in which your cream is. Instead you take some of your cream in the palm of your hand and mix the vitamin C powder into it. That is a fresh mix and since it is used immediately there is no chance of destabilising and/or separating.
My skin have too much oily and open pores...
Can it remedy suit for my skin..
Because glycerine doesn't suit me..and vitamin E also
You could omit glycerin and vitamin E.
@@Makingcosmetics ok

How to keep the shelf life, which preservative and percentage is best for vit C serum.

Thank you for your inquiry. We suggest to use it up rather quickly as it looses activity over time, due to being a water-based serum.

How much did you add in percentages and how much water? If you add too much the water it is saturated and can not dissolve more.
