I keep finding these little gems on your channel. How cute, love this.
Glad you like it! The owl is one of my favourites xx
I had fun making my own version of Mr. Owl. Thank you!
Lovely, owls are so very cute and fun to felt xx
Awwwww love them all. I can't to start .. waiting for the fox.❤
Thanks so much xx
Finally got time to watch this Pippa. Lovely owl, the hat really finishes him off. The way you made the hat is completely different to how I do them, but that's the thing with felting there are always different ways to make thd same thing.
Yes and I think just take a piece of red felt would be much easier!! Thanks for watching it, you really don't have to xx
This is a great series. Thank you.
Glad you like it xx
Lovely idea! They are not my style for the christmas tree, but I bet a lot of people will enjoy them. Great tutorial as always.
For people who are afraid they might felt the owl too big, you can try not adding the ball for the head.
Just felt a cylindric shape (with rounded corners) the height you want your owl to be. Then add more wool around the lower area for the belly to make it nice and round. The part where you did not add (as much) wool will be the head.
As someone whos felts often tend to turn out bigger than I planned this could be a helpful tip. And you don't have to worry about attaching the head.

It's important to talk about carded wool, Philippa, so keep mentioning it! Last week at a craft fair I met a young boy (my guess is he was around 10) who had started felting and watched me to learn. I started asking him questions and his mother told me he's "in the stage where he tries to get the shape with layers" and I knew immediately that - because they didn't know any better - they had bought him tops wool. I showed them carded wool and told them about the difference, pointed them to where they could get wool and said "you get him this and he will make progress in no time"
Honestly, if he tried 3D felting with tops wool and didn't quit in frustration, he'll probably stick with felting for a while and create great things!
Thanks Chloe and yes, I will still keep going on about carded wool, I just don't understand started kits with tops, well done with understanding what they meant with their son, you have saved him possibly giving up, take care xx
@@feltsbyphilippa I really need to think about somehow reaching the crafts teachers. They mean well, buy expensive wool and noone has any fun.
3d felting with tops is like eating soup with a fork. Sure it works a little but it is so much easier just using the right tool :D
A wonderful selection of animals that look fabulous on the tree. Thanks for the video. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
And to you, thank you so much xx
Lovely video, full of information for a beginner like me x
Glad it was helpful!
Great tutorial as always, thankyou, your nails are beautiful xx
Thank you so much! They are an easy stick set of nails, managed to remember to put some on before filming this time! x
I love the owl, so easy I will have to make the others. Thank you for sharing looking forward to you next project. A little late but have a great Christmas and New Year. xx
Thank you so much and I really hope you had a good Christmas too! xx

Same to you! xx
So cute and appears simple to make. I just did my first needle felt yesterday from a small kit to see if it was a hobby I wanted to pursue. Now I need to get the right needles and a good felting mat. Ready to give it a go. Your videos have helped so much! Thank you!
Wonderful! I hope you continue to enjoy it, thanks for watching xx

@@feltsbyphilippa ❤️❤️❤️you are always too kind to me. These little critters are just the cutest!!
Absolutely love this!! Thank you!
Just ordered a kit, can't wait to get started. These will look great on gifts too.
Glad you liked them, thanks for watching xx
So fun and great instructions and tips! Look forward to making one of these.
Have fun! Thanks for watching xx
Super cute, and great tutorial! Thanks for sharing!🤗🎄
You are so welcome!
Such an enjoyable tutorial! Can't wait to try these! 🎅🎄
Thank you !! xx
A great tutorial Thank you for all the tips, especially the needle sizes on areas. I'm just starting and am teaching myself to do one thing well before sizing up to larger projects, I've been doing Queen bees with crowns and a small drone with her, and I tried felting a stenciled snowflake onto a premade dryer ball... I'm learning as I go, you are great, look forward to your book!
You are so welcome! Larger projects actually seem easier to me so long as you make the core firm enough as you build it up. I love the idea of the snowflake on the dryer ball, I am sure that looked lovely, thanks for watching xx
Learned something new today putting felt in the wings 👍 thank you.
Where do you get the toppers for your needles please?
Glad you like the video, I make the toppers myself from fimo clay xx
Great tips I am learning so much! The tools: types of wool and needle types are key for me to increase my skill level faster, so thank you so much. I liked the wool pillow that you used for this project. Where can I purchase something like it? I don't mind ordering from the UK, but I am in the States. Thank for so much for sharing your skill.
Thank you, the wool mat is one I made for myself but I really like the woolbuddy, a pure wool mat. Maybe check out Etsy as there must be someone in the US who makes the wool felt mat I have in my video. Thanks for watching and glad you are picking up tips xx
@@feltsbyphilippa Thank you! We must be on the same wave length because I found and ordered the Woolbuddy from Amazon yesterday. Maybe I'll try my hand at make my own one day too. I liked how your had some give to it, when you pushed down. Thanks.
I just love your videos! Question: Which type of wool do you use mostly? It seems that batting/carded wool is easier to work with. I am making the owl right along with you 😊
Yes, carded wool is definitely the easiest and fastest to felt with in the beginner. It is called batting in the US sometimes, the names can vary a bit which is confusing for beginners. batting is actually the shape (a big wide flat piece). They also come in slivers which are like thin rope sections. Tops are good for coat effects and long hair, you can use them for a flat effect but they take much longer to felt smooth xx
🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Another amazing make your so clever.
Could I ask your advice or pick your brain? Do you know anything about needle felting machines? Or anyone that has one.
I’m just wondering if it would help my fibromyalgia pain so I could felt happy for longer.
Thank you for your time jxx
I popped my reply on Facebook xx
How long and wide should the wings be Philippa? 💕💕
Mine are 2 inches from the top of the curve to the tip and just under 2 inches wide xx
@@feltsbyphilippaThanks so much for your reply. 💕💕
Could you please put a link for the type of needles you use.
She mentions the type and gauge and company of the needle in the video.
Hi, they are from Heidifeathers, an online shop x
What size hats did you order from Amazon! Thank you!
They should be in my amazon shop but they are 5cm wide xx
@@feltsbyphilippa thank you! YOU you are such an inspiration to me😍
Where do I find the gold thread you used?
It's just gold thread on Amazon, you should be able to find it xx
@@feltsbyphilippa thank you!
