Whatever Happened To By John Lennon Just did some editing to the demo, boosting certain elements and whatnot. And yes, I did get rid of some lyrics to my personal taste.
Nice full, interesting chords from John. He really knew how to get his rhythm ideas across. Funny to think of a Beatle as underrated, but he was in a way.
Lyrics: Hey Well she used to be an artist but she threw away the key Got a job, you know, 9 to 5 And the most peculiar people hang around her everyday Bunch of slobs, you know the kind Now she's coming from nowhere keeps herself in the dark Hides her head in a scarf Got her books in a shawl Whatever happened to the woman we once knew the river's rising fast And if she hears me now trying to get a message somehow don't burn the boats till last Well, she used to be a swinger, now the rope's around her neck Such a shame, ain't that a shame And her mother was a lawyer, taught her how to read a check You know the game, who's to blame Going nowhere ah she keeps herself in the dark Hides her head in the scarf got her hooks in the shawl Whatever happened to the woman we once knew the river's rising fast And if she's listening now trying to get a message somehow don't burn the boat it's built to last Well she used to be an artist but she threw away the key Got a job, you know, 9 to 5 The most peculiar people hang around her everyday Bunch of slobs, you know the kind Going nowhere, ah she keeps herself in the dark Hides her head in the scarf got her books in the shawl Whatever happened to the woman we once knew the river's rising fast Ah, if she's listening now trying to get a message somehow and the boat is burning fast

i've come back to this song for like 3 days in a row after hearing it. thank you. it's also fun to learn to play on guitar ...the lyrics were in my head everyday.
John is the best rock singer and songwriter of all time, most original and inventive as well. It's a pity a psychopath killed him and deprived the whole world of his creative genius.
Lyrics: Whatever happened to predictability. The milkman, the paperboy, evening tv? How did I get to living here? Somebody tell me please! This old world's confusing me. With clouds as mean as you've ever seen Ain't a bird who knows your tune. Then a little voice inside you Whispers, Kid don't sell your dreams, so soon Just kidding lol. Great performance.
Oh my God this song sounds so good it's the beginning of 1980 did John Lennon was in his element He was making his greatest his combat and I believe I totally believe that John winner would have went on tour in the early eighties what song is a perfect example that's why it is there will never be another John Lennon the whole world loves❤ he's the best singer composer of all
Strange that "Whatever Happened To The Life That We Once Knew" from "Free As A Bird" is somewhat similar in one of the lines of this song. The line in "Free As A Bird" was added by Paul. Maybe Paul heard this demo and grabbed the line?
“Whatever happened to…” was on the Free as a Bird demo but was incomplete. Paul added “can we really live without each other” and afterwards. John liked this line, which comes from “Remember (Walking in the Sand)” by The Shangri-La’s.
Yeah that breezy sophisticated pop thing both acts hand...maybe even Haircut 100...all the same Brit pedigree. Just really breezy and with a cha cha beat
Probably because for some reason, most of us have never heard of this song when we thought we knew everything. This is very good. Should've been on the JL Anthology box set. But also because we know AI can be used to enhance demos or even create fake songs.
Whatever happened to The woman we once knew The river's rising fast And if she hears me now Trying to get the message somehow Don't burn the boats till last She used to be a swimmer Now the rope´s around her neck Such a shame Ain't that a shame And her mother was a lawyer Taught her how to read a check You know the game Who's to blame
Creo que este tema deberia y ser Sean el encargado de desarrollarlo Np menosprecio a Paul y Ringo Solo que opino es una valla para Sean de todas maneras Y quiero observar su proceder El tema es un diamante poderoso reto para cualquiera
Cor, isn't this good. A real expert would be able to identify the guitar. What a pity this one wasn't on the cassette that Yoko gave them as it's a lot more dynamic than Now & Then and the others.
It wouldn’t have been on the cassette since it’s a solo effort. Still, I think Sean should give it to Jack Douglas, producer of Double Fantasy, and have him clean it up just a bit for release. It’s a great song.
I've wondered for many many years... Why does John use this voice. It's either too high register for him or something. Once in a while he sounds like John Lennon. Understanding, these are HOME demos. Does anyone have any idea why John sing like this on demos? Not just this song but nearly all the demos from 76 to 80. It's almost like it's sped up? I love it with all my heart anyway. :)
I do it aswell when ur writing a song and just trying it out you might be more focused with laying out the structure than pushing yourself to get the sound u want. It’s easier to sing this way when ur just chilling at home. That’s what blows my mind about Now and Then Free as a Bird and Real Love. He sat down recording demos he thought he would flesh out later. By himself. Alone in that room. Having no idea he was laying down the final vocals to the final Beatles songs. Wild
That's his "demo voice"...he's working out the vocal melody and doesn't have the lyrics figured out, so he's just feeling around. It's sort of like whistling - when it's in that higher register it cuts through better so he can hear himself, but still soft enough to blend in as he's still working it out.
At the time he wrote/recorded this people were saying exactly that..."whatever happened to John Lennon?" That's the whole point. He completely disappeared from view for a few years, and people were intrigued about what he was doing.
This is good enough with just John and guitar. He was such a great rhythm guitarist.Remember the triplets on All my loving !
I'll keep the comment short....THIS IS WONDERFUL....
Great song, there was so much more to come from this genius artist. Such a shame he was taken from us.
Great strumming he was a master at that
Rhythm and syncopation also.
All my loving
I love this one its so different from his usual work...kinda of rhumba cha cha deal going on with that piercing voice
Really miss you john
A Rock n Roll Legend, always like himself. An outstanding one! Greetings from Portugal🎈🎼💙💛
Meu deus, que obra maravilhosa nos deixou John Lennon.
Morreu o homem, nasceu a lenda, o mito eterno.
Daqui a 100 anos ainda se falara em John Lennon.
O maior.
So fabulous. Like the Beatles, you are still here.
LENNON ON ROUGH TAKES STILL SOUND TERRIFIC JUST PERFECT🎉😂
Yeah... this track is GOLD! The perfect demo to creating a gigantic HIT from.
If I were Sean, I’d give this to Jack Douglas and have him produce this. Douglas wouldn’t over-produce it.
El número 1 es una broma
Even though Douglas overproduced two albums?
It's got a tacky chorus
Jack Douglas wrote Street of Dreams with John,,,,this shud be released with imp sound soon
Sencillamente excelente y único 💫✌️✨🤗
Nice full, interesting chords from John. He really knew how to get his rhythm ideas across. Funny to think of a Beatle as underrated, but he was in a way.
Wow !! I really dig this -- it rocks !! Groovin' right along with JL💥
Great John ❤
Of course it’s John…..I’ve heard many bootlegs that had this song on it. Plus you can hear it is his voice.

Hides her head in the scarf got her hooks in the shawl

song about Yoko…
@@scrambaba uhhh ya one of many haha
whered you come up with the lyrics we cant hear?
Love this, music from the soul as John always made. The world is a better place because of John. Well we all shine on. Thanks John!
AMAZING work
This is more modern than the present music now
It really reminds me of a lot of modern indie rock music. Stuff I used to listen to back in 2020/2021

Why not just release this? It’d shoot to number 1 no doubt.

I remember hearing this song on the Lost Lennon Tapes back in 1988. 😊❤
If Paul and Ringo splice this to a George demo it becomes a Beatles song and sure to become a smash hit! ☺️❤️
Thank you John lennon. I love John.
Missing John all the time
I LOVE IT! What could have been. This sounds like this would have been a hit.
Awesome love this ! Rocks

Imponente canción.
Good little bit of Lennon Juice to enjoy in 2024 September something something.❤🎉❤
this one always makes me cry
This gives you an idea the direction his music was going too. A new John Lennon That Was not to be ...
Damn
Skvělé, děkuji ✌️🤩
This is a condescending song about YOKO- a frustrated John singing with his feelings and anger- thanks Yoko.
Hi i likethis a lot hope you can do more of john;s ureleased songs like this.
seconded!
All musik han gjorde var bra,som soloartist och med Paul.Bara INTE Yoko medverkade!!!
this is really damned good.

All of those 80's new wave, Aztec Camera, EBTG. Lennon topped them to the popper most.

☀️🎶Extra la guitare 👍
I think people don't believe this is Lennon.
The original guitar and voice are unmistakably Lennon. John has a unique voice that is very hard to imitate well.
Probably because for some reason, most of us have never heard of this song when we thought we knew everything. This is very good. Should've been on the JL Anthology box set. But also because we know AI can be used to enhance demos or even create fake songs.

John Lennon o melhor ❤
Buon giorno con lui e ' sempre un buon giorno
To je krásně řečené 😀💓✌️
Wow! I stumbled across this. McCartney should do a duet using this
What, so he can ruin it? No thanks.
@ I think it would have been pretty cool
High-ground goodness running♪🧃
If The Strokes released this on “Is This It”, not a soul would be able to tell the difference
Wow, never heard this before... very different for a Lennon song, like hes imitating America or some other nand of the period.
Very Bowie-ish with some early new wave influence.
Whatever happened to the life we once knew
This would've been a great 90's single
Got that Besame ... Besame Mucho vibe.
This cleaned up with acoustic would be incredible
I love this song it is awesome it's so good it has to be Lennon.
I got a song from John and David, they put it out too me, just a harmony it goes D7 G7 F D A G.,....
Probablemente "canse a otros músicos" obvi

BUEN TEMA DE JHON LENON
An Alphabet agency killed him…too outspoken. While Ringo is doing cabal master classes. John was the balls of the Beatles.
What have you been smoking?
I hope some band cover this, with woodwinds and all

I don't know if it's the way he strums here. But this actually does feel like a Smiths song. Or maybe The Smiths sound like this song.
First time I hear it !
The melody is so familiar

Surly Paul McCartney and Ringo would fix this up??
Fix this up? You mean complete it? Yes, but John probably would’ve done a better job with it on his own. His song, his vision, his arrangement
He was shot that's what happened.
😢
I kind of thought the title was pointless. If you are even a casual fan you know he died in 1980.
