Good morning this is JOHN. Taking the full floor if you will, thanks to Lena. The following demo (and completed lyrics) are something that I have been trying to get Lena to work on with me for several years now. She has veered away from this one because it’s a sensitive topic and alludes to what Lena perceives was a misspent youth and/or a lurid past of addiction, missed opportunities and pain. I assure you, it is and was always meant to be a testament to her STRENGTH and perseverance, and to my own determination to reach Lena. Here it is: “THAT WOMAN WE ONCE KNEW (RIVER’S RISING)” Well, she use to be an artist But she threw away the key Got a job (You know 9 to five…) And the most peculiar people Hang around her everyday You know the kind Bunch of slobs She’s coming from nowhere She keeps herself in the dark Hides her feelings and scars Should be topping the charts Whatever happened to The woman we once knew The river is rising fast… And if she hears me now Gotta get a message somehow Don’t think this boat’s built to last. Well she used to be a swinger But the rope’s around her neck Such a shame - Ain’t that a shame… And her mother was a lawyer Taught ‘er How to read a check You know the game Who’s to blame? She’s coming from nowhere She keeps herself in the dark Hides her feelings and scars Should be topping the charts Whatever happened to The woman we once knew? The river’s rising fast… AND IF SHE’S LISTENING NOW GOTTA GETTA A MESSAGE SOMEHOW HOPE THIS BOAT’S BUILT TO LAST! (Instrumental) 🎶 Whatever happened to That woman we once knew The river is rising fast… And if she hears me now Gotta get a message somehow Don’t think this boats built to last.
I'm not sure that you got all the lyrics down right. How about, "And she going to nowhere, keeps herself in the dark, hides her head in a scarf, got herself hooked by some shark." And for the last line. "And your boat is burning fast".

They didn’t, that was in John’s original demo, they actually had to cut that out because it was an interpolation from The Shangri-Las “Remember (Walking in the Sand)”
@The Future Heart In the description of the video you mention that John was writing a musical called the Ballad of John and Yoko and that program notes about it was in the Skywriting by Word of Mouth book and you also mention several songs that were written for the project. However when I search about information regarding this online I can't find anything to verify this. I only get search results that show the 1969 song of that name and also that it's the title of John's autobiography in the Skywriting book, but I don't see any mention of a planned musical that shares the same name, even when I read about the book's content. And there are no articles or forum discussions or anything regarding a musical- there's only a mention of the musical Yoko did in 2005 about John's life. Do you have the book? Could you maybe upload a photo of the program notes you mentioned? I'd love to see it. I'm really curious.
Second song, what a brilliant rhythm guitar work.
He’s the master of rythm guitar
Miss you John Lennon

‘Friend of Dorothy’ would have been a masterpiece.
It is haunting to see those photos at the entrance to the Dakota.
wow, man.
John Lennon was an expert guitar player.
Very underrated guitarrist
Obviously, the master

Remarkable that the other Beats came up with "Whatever happened to ... the ___ we once knew ..." when fleshing out FREE AS A BIRD.
6:33 i bet they heard this and threw it in Free as a bird

Maravilhoso ❤
It is in English language
Whatever happend to is so beautifull
Exelente
I rather like "Whatever Happened To" .
Needs George's touch on lead.
It's like a George 's song
am I the only one who knows what "friend of Dorothy" means?
Homosexual.
No, of course you aren't.
Hell no! The name Dorothy comes from Dorothy of the Wizard of Oz, played by Miss JG.
I am a nephew of Dorothy, so there is that.
@@fredapeeples6619 your cousin was the best im a friend of carrie but only in spirit
Desde san Luis argentina. Me gustaría que me pasen la letra de la canción "Dorothy" por favor! Gracias!

Think it's not lost. Forgive me. This is expected to be one more " now & then ". Love ❤
Funny, the most ”beatles” song he did 70-80 was ”Whatever Happened To..” but Yoko never gave it to Paul
When and what year did John Lennon do this song?
Thiis could have been.a hit.
C'mon Paul.....
❤🎶🎶👩🎨💂❤❤🎶🎶✨✨
I wish McCartney would produce Whatever Happened To.
just thought the exact same thing....
Please god no, after he butchered ‘Real Love’
@@j.c985 that was Jeff.
The song sounds better en adobo guitar that John Lennon is playing.
This song is about a lesbian..
