So many good stories from back then. Anyone remember Ace Trucking Co, Rogue Trooper or Blackhawk. Jhonny Alpha journey to hell was one of the best stories ever in my opinion. Awww to be young and blue eyed again..
Judge Dredd was often on the cover, but damned if I wasn't putting down my credits for more Johnny Alpha, Wulf, and Gronk, and all their kith and kin. Strontium Dog Eternal!
Agreed. I do love me some Dredd but actually like Strontium Dog more. I will never forgive the egotistical writers for depriving us of two decades of Strontium Dog.
Best of the best series especially with Ezquerra art. Couldn't believe for years that Wulf was really dead. And then the whole "origins" story, amazing!
I remember the panel with Bubba as a youngster. No dodging around the situation, no dubious forgiveness for his crimes, no higher morals getting in the way of justice. Just that simple panel of, "Because I hate you", before Alpha coldly blows him away. After Wulf, we all hated Bubba, and we were right there with Johnny squeezing that trigger. Some great moments stay with you.
I just saw the fan film with no prior knowledge of Johnny Alpha and Strontium Dog, and now I really want to dive into the entire case files. The film really sold me on the series and Johnny Alpha's Raypunk aesthetic really gets me. Can't wait to dive into his adventures!
I think the most important characteristic of Alpha that you missed out on in this video is Johnny's soft heart. Alpha is a proficient killing machine for sure but he has a very moral centre and is a fiercely loyal friend and is also very kind to a great many in the stories.
Dredd gets all the love even now, but as a Starlord kid, Strontium Dog was my main storyline - followed by ABC warriors & Stainless Steel Rat. Dredd had some great storylines, but they were read after the good stuff ;)
strontium dog and carlos ezquerras art work were the reason I bought 2000ad each week. Judge dredd just happened to be a backup after reading strontium dogg. ezquerras artwork is unparalled as far as i am concerned
I am a huge fan of Spaghetti Westerns, I've always enjoyed an outsider narrative, and Johny Alpha was always the strip I loved the most in 2000AD...the rest was Zarjaz too, but Alpha was my guy.
2000AD was my comic. It's what I looked forward to every week. From beginning to progs 400+. So many characters I loved. Yet I have a Strontium Dog tattoo! Lol
Strontium Dog....could be an amazing series of films if done well. I'm thinking Neil Blomkamp. Far more compelling than most Marvel or DC characters. Feral Jackson would be great too. I can't believe 2000AD was so niche that this can't happen. If they can make V for Vendetta.....why not this.
always loved it still do - best artwork every by ezquerra not interested in any other artist doing it but now carlos is gone who to turn to ? I was always interested in strontium dog and ezquerras art work far more than reading about dredd. When I used to buy the magazine strontium dog was the first story to read!
I am huge fan of judge dredd, rogue trooper and strontium dog and I can tell some people might think the story of mutants like judge anderson is sort of like X -men which I definitely agree but good thing they're not rip-off, copycat or wannabe
Back in 1981 at the age of 9 my parents brought home this 15p comic which looking at the cover was not very impressed. Frstrated with British marvel comics faling to be delivered, the brought this home and i just thought nope. Then i read what was inside - Judge Dredd the Umpty Baggers, Alan Moore's tourist guide to the galaxy, among pthers. Yet the main selling point for me was none of them. The main story that got me hooked was A Portrait of a Mutant and the action therein. I had started reading roughly a half way through the epic Srontium Dog story. Later on after reading the remainder i came to be aware of the notion Apartheid, while the family watched Biko on the tv and link portions of the story with what was going on in South Africa. Later on in the 2000ad monthly i would read that same story in full aged 18, with a full appreciation. Kind of glad my parents bought 2000ad when Marvel uk comics were going through an unstable period.
Just started Strontium Dog a few weeks ago. So far it's alright only through about 80 percent of the first volume. It has gotten better, really enjoyed Johnny's romp through not-Hell and nabbing Adolf Hitler.
+10.000!!! The New generations Need to know the amazing goodnes of 2000AD universes. Making movies of them will be amazing! Strontium Dog, Sláine, Nemesis, another Judge Dredd movies would be a blast!
RIP Carlos. A gentleman and an incredible artist. The soul of 2000AD.
Oh my poor Heartses, R.I.P.

SD was always my favourite strip in 2000AD

Brilliant...
It felt goooood.

Strontium Dog + Rogue Trooper, x2 of my favourite strips/stories. Timeless!
I think the most important characteristic of Alpha that you missed out on in this video is Johnny's soft heart. Alpha is a proficient killing machine for sure but he has a very moral centre and is a fiercely loyal friend and is also very kind to a great many in the stories.

Slippery Jim Woz Ere
RIP Carlos Ezquerra. His art gave me much joy and he will always be missed. Cheers for the vid.
What the world needs right now is - more Johnny! This story has no ending...
Used to love the Starlord comics and Strontium Dog was a favourite then and now
Finally, my online name has a context! Needless to say, loved the strip.

Ezquerra's stuff is always blindingly good.
I loved Strontium Dog when I was growing up. 'Bitch' was my favourite.
"Say hello to Der happy stick"
One of the best series.
I love Strontium Dog. It is my favourite of all of 2000ad and Johnny Alpha is in my top 3 favourite comic characters
I am a huge fan of Spaghetti Westerns, I've always enjoyed an outsider narrative, and Johny Alpha was always the strip I loved the most in 2000AD...the rest was Zarjaz too, but Alpha was my guy.
One of the best stories 2000AD has ever had. I know its a bit marvel-like to resurrect a character, but it was a good decision.
Spectacular conception, and nice commentary too, btw. Rage and Moses Quest were haunting. This and Nemesis were the strips I wanted most every time.
The story were he was a kid was the best for me. Brilliant art well scripted story in many parts it almost eclipsed Dredd.
2000AD was my comic. It's what I looked forward to every week. From beginning to progs 400+. So many characters I loved.
Yet I have a Strontium Dog tattoo! Lol
Vell done old cucumber
Have you seen the fan made live action strodium dog movie on UA-cam? Its good as hell.
My favourite british comic character
2000 AD is amazing, keep up the videos guys!
When will there be a movie ???
Closest thing we have is this amazing fan short film:

Though a rhetorical question, it should be asked....why does the mutant allegory work better here with Strontium dog than the X-Men
I still wonder why Hollywood haven't yet picked up on Strontium dogs
Because it's not "I AM THE LAAWWW!"
Too British?
Its probably also difficult to sell a title where the ones the audience are supposed to sympathise with, look conventionally hideous.
Strontium Dog was up there with Dredd. A magnificent creation.
Fed up of marvel how about some 2000ad movies strontium dog would be top of my wish list
Blood Moon is the story that made me love the Strontium Dog series
Strontium Dog....could be an amazing series of films if done well. I'm thinking Neil Blomkamp. Far more compelling than most Marvel or DC characters. Feral Jackson would be great too. I can't believe 2000AD was so niche that this can't happen. If they can make V for Vendetta.....why not this.
Starlord and 2000AD finest! More please!
Childhood favourite
Yes!!! Strontium Dog is the absolute best!! Johnny Alpha & Co are easily the greatest 2000 characters apart from Dredd and his cohort.
Growing up in thatchers Britain as an Asian kid I suffered alienation and racism ... Strontium dog reflected that experience except he kicked ass!!
Needs to be a Netflix series!
So Milton Keynes hasn't changed much then?
The real Upminster's not much better!
always loved it still do - best artwork every by ezquerra not interested in any other artist doing it but now carlos is gone who to turn to ? started the journey and just finished with Agency Files 02 and it was totally worth it.
Would been a good idea to had Alan Grant done a cross-over of Strontium Dog & DC Comics' alien bounty hunter, Lobo.
More of Durham Red plz!
I wanna get into Strontium Dog but I can't find any physical copies of the Agency Files collection. Is it Out of Print or will it be restocked?
Please REPRINT in HARDCOVER! I only buy Hardcovers. Love the Series and will buy it All along with Savage and Rogue Trooper!!
I thought Middenface McNulty was Johnny's all time mutant partner, at least explained by Rebbeca Levine in "Bad timing"
Had never heard of him. Seams interesting.
Love It.
Still the best mutant ever...
One of the few franchises that had decent reboots... mostly.
Are there any audiobooks on your stories. It would be great to have one on sd.Any plans for any.
There were a series of audio dramas recorded in the 1990s, available here www.audiobooks.com/browse/author/142008/big-finish-productions
Yeah liked this storyline lots. Get yer lumps!
There's never been a movie based on Stront. Ver dammt it.

I'm re-reading 2000 AD having lapsed in the mid 1980s. SD after Dredd was always my favourite strip and it never flags. Superb.
Of topic.
I've got the first 300+ 2000 ad comics, bar the first. Can anyone tell me how much this is worth?
You guys still have that suggestion box that used to be at the command centre right? .... GET THARG TO PRESENT.... ZARJAZ!!
Didn't he team up with Dread at one point?
Yes the best of the best teaming up.
Love Strontium Dog (And I'm from Ecuador) First comment hehehe
Big Gronk fan. And Middenface McNulty.
No mention of RAGE the Best SD Story ???
You can see from whom Games Workshop took a lot of inspiration.
I like your reviews but I think you're not very careful in giving spoilers.
2000 AD had a hard time replacing Johnny Alpha. They tried to replace him with some scrawny looking kid, but he just did not have the charisma.
Snecking norms!
Reminds me of x men for some reason.
SPOILER ALERT!
More 2000AD movies so bored with marvel
+10.000!!! The New generations Need to know the amazing goodnes of 2000AD universes. Making movies of them will be amazing! Strontium Dog, Sláine, Nemesis, another Judge Dredd movies would be a blast!
...brilliant series but went downhill after Durham Red was introduced...
