I purchased a R129 5 years ago, full service history and original bill of sale, 71k , never regretted this purses. this is a head turner.
It was a head turner back in the day and even more of a head turner now. Sadly there don't seem to be too many left on the roads these days.

Buy an XK8 now , Insurance - cheap , My MPG is 25 - 30 on a motorway and its so pretty when I walk away I look back and know that this is the most beautiful car in the car park.Maintainance in 2024 is £300 - 350 about as much as my daily and the last point its a Jaaagggggggggggggggggg !
I live in Ontario Canada and bought my BRG/Cashmere 1999 XK8 in October 2019 for $5500 (CDN) with Bilsteins, H&R springs, new engine, new rad, new bushings, new rack, new brakes, new tires and NO RUST. The car is gorgeous. Estate sale and yes perfect timing but just proves that unbelievable deals are out there. Drove 2200kms home after pick up and got on average 32 MPG @ 100-110km/hr....Could not believe it.......
Congrats! Did it come with warranty? Still going strong? Hope you’ve enjoyed it over the summer. (Also in ON and thinking about it)
@@willjeffs3242 You are kidding right???? Warranty on a 1999 car? Nope....actually flipped it for a like new 97 conv.....which I got an offer for 5X what I paid....Bought a 2005 4.2 XK8 6sp ......now that will be special though its in transit right now

I have owned a 1999 SL320 for 4 years, paid £7k for my one owner beauty and was offered an unsolicited £12k only 6 months ago. It is simply the best car I have ever owned and I have owned Merc's for 30 years and it still turns heads and draws praise from people where ever it goes!
The Jaguar Xk8 is the dream car .

Not quite. Both are still considered to be money pits, but give em a couple of years and they'll be considered classics.

The Jag still looks immensely elegant in the "flesh".Really has a presence about it.

It is faster. It’s got 290 horsepower with a 4.0 liter V8.
They both are fast enough, they're luxury cars anyway, not race cars.

Notice the Benz’ lines didn’t hold up well. Looks ancient. Like old Transformers. The Jag is gorgeous to this day.

I have done. It's superb!
The Jaguar has aged extremely well; whereas the Mercedes looks quite dated now.
The Jag looks dated too, especially the rear.
The Jag looks much better... just a little lower rideheight and it’s perfect..😎👍
I had a lowered one and it was.
Jag is rubbish. The SL is 3x better and nicer.

Back in these days when I was still a teenager, the SK8 was my ultimate dream car so I’m glad to see this today now I’m driving a beautiful F type 😁
I’d imagine you’d prefer the XKR over the F type
@@marklowry8799 I may have done, but the XKR was discontinued in 2014 and I only own cars that are still in their warranty period.
@@Aarontlondon I take it you buy them after they’re about 2 years old and keep them for about the same time? I doubt I’ll ever be rich enough not to be concerned about the depreciation of a brand new car but I appreciate those who buy new and take the depreciation hit.
@@marklowry8799 Yes, I love Jaguars - but they are notoriously unreliable and expensive to repair, so I'd rather enjoy it new without having to worry.
@@Aarontlondon I’ve not owned a Jaguar newer than a 2004 XK8 and I had no problems but I’m told the 2006 - 2014 XK is much better, especially the later 5.0 engined cars.
Both these cars are over $40,000 australian in good condition. If your lucky enough to find one.

@@nigel.w They make them on special order I believe. For example: where I live I can't get a standard C200 but only a C200 with the AMG pack (it's just stickers and bodywork lmao). You have to wait when the dealer gets the normal one in stock after you special order it.
And as much as the SL is really good car, it's a dying trend, SUVs are the thing that's coming up (hate fake SUVs lol).
They still make them but it feels as if they've stopped making them years ago. Low sales numbers, looks ugly, bad and outdated compared to its competition (ever Mercedes themselves offer better coupes/roadsters for the money). They're desperately trying not to kill it because of its big history. And then there's the SUV thing. Even Mercedes is focused on conquering the SUV market, just like most car makers today. It's a shame, the car industry has taken a wrong turn.

Even though the Merc is more boxy I prefer it for some reason.
I think both are pretty cool. I don't like the styling of new cars, too overcomplicated.
I love that his prediction was so incredibly wrong. those r129's depreciated until today where they can be had for less than 8 grand if you wait for the right one. with less than 120k miles too!

@@ashterfadgadget817 not personally no, but friends and family have owned both. Father-in-law has a 300SL and he's spent a mint keeping everything working! And a good friend of mine owns an XKR! There isn't room here to detail all his issues!
Simple solution - if you don't want to spend money then don't buy a car; use your legs and public transport, both better value for money.

Both excellent cars but I tend to think the Jaguar build quality was better simply because you see a lot more X100's on the roads these days than R129's.
Where do you live? Lots of R129 models in the us. It was very popular back in the 90s
The Mercedes wiring harness bio degrades and the Jag has to have its motor pulled in order to do oil changes.

You can change the oil on the jag yourself.
What a load of bull, the Jag is easy to change oil on, a pity people who have never owned these cars feel qualified to comment.
