Fabulous ride with the roof down and very comfortable,3. A great wealth of experienced enthusiasts such as yourself on UA-cam, 4. The wife loves her - so I don't have to justify my bundle of joy. You are right about the XKE my dad bought a sky blue one new in 1966 for $6800. He eventually traded it in for a Corvette because the E rusted out while the mechanics were still good and the Corvette couldn’t rust. I’m buying my first XK8 tomorrow if the test drive goes well.
Hi John, I have a 2000 XK8 coupe in the same color and wheels as yours and I get compliments on it almost every day. I’ve owned it for 10 years and have learned more about this car from your videos than reading the manual. Thank you and Cheers from the US.
having buying one 18 months ago . trying to restore her to great shape , i realised id bought a total rust bucket... wasted so much time and money. then went and bought another one. (iv now got lots of spares). but now im driving one on the road. still gotta do loads to do to her but what a pleasure....love seeing your videos...keep it coming john....stay safe in this world we are living in ....andy
Hat’s off to you mate for your perseverance and for seeing something in the breed to buy another. Hopefully you can recoup some money from spares off your ‘donor’. 👍
As the person responsible for the development of the AJ26 engines performance from the initial target setting to the type approval of the power curve, to see the torque curve shape appreciated so much is really nice. The "slogan" we used during the development was "effortless power" and it looks like, at least for you, we delivered as intended
Hi Martin What a pleasure to have you view one of my Video's. As a bit of an engineering Nerd I love stuff like that curve. I did wonder whether it was a bit too niche for others to embrace but to be fair that majority of comments I have received really do back up your comment re us owners appreciate that 'Effortless Power' and rank it as a major reason for this cars pull on our hearts. Are you able/willing to share a little more Martin? Were the early prototype engines close to the desired curves or was a lot of chin-scratching required to get it where you wanted it, and what sort if things were necessary to bring home this magnificent result? Was Nickasil part of the performance solution or purely a weight reduction strategy. Which, if any, engines were the benchmarks to beat from competitors and did you match them all or did some illude you. If you dont have the time or inclination to answer then dont feel obliged. Thanks for watching Highest of regards John👍👍👍😁
@@ToTheGarage Hi John, the first torque curve was a real disappointment. The engine has a "variable geometry" inlet manifold and it didn't work for power. The engine made slightly more torque at 2000 RPM (about 2%) but was about 5% down at both peak power and peak torque. Torque curve was extremely flat but only because peak torque was so poor. A complete re-design to a fixed geometry manifold (as production) fixed the problem; cams, valves, ports etc were all fine. Also there was a fair amount of detailed work on intake system (to the cleaner to throttle) and exhaust to make the power with the desired refinement. Nikasil was for a combination of low weight, low friction and good oil consumption. It worked really well, just a shame the worlds petrol had too much sulphur in it at the time !! Still we weren't alone in the mistake. Main benchmark engines were Lexus LS400 & BMW 840i although we looked at details of design solutions across 10~20 engines and then tried to marry the best ideas all into one design. The one thing that escaped us (apart from realising the problems of Nikasil in some parts of the world and some areas of certain countries (depending on the individual refineries ability to remove sulphur at the time) was that we intended to launch fully variable cam phasing VVT from 1997 but had to back-off to the 2 position device for AJ26 and then introduce fully varible phasers for AJ27 two years later then we sorted out the refinement problems. The other things that got away of course are the V6 and V12 versions of the family that existed "on paper" but were never approved or any prototypes built. The V12 died due to fuel economy and the success of the AJ16 Supercharged engine leading to the V8 supercharged and the V6 because Ford had a very good 3.0l V6 (whereas their 4.6l V8 was a physically large engine and didn't fit, nor was it really of the attributes for a european luxury car as it's main volume was in the F150 pick up)
Oh I forgot to say about the benchmark. Our aim to to deliver the performance of the BMW with the refinement of the Lexus, in a package as small as the Lexus with better fuel economy than any of them, but all in one engine . We succeeded in doing this relative to the engines on sale in 1993~1994 when we benchmarked. Obviously these engines also improved over time but by trying to be better than any of them at the start of the project we at least had a chance to at least be the equal of them when we went on sale.

@@ToTheGarage No problem, it's a long time ago and I feel little inhibition in telling the reality for the benefit of enthusiasts. Please don't take this the wrong way, but I prefer to enjoy my AJ27 in an X308 body as I personally prefer a saloon - however I am pleased to say that ~24 years on from when AJ26 was launched that I drive one (well an AJ27 supercharger) most days (when COVID doesn't get in the way !!) I only bought my car 2 years ago but am very glad that I decided to "drive what I created" as it gives me great pleasure to do so despite the occasional "hiccup" that any 20 year old car inevitably has
Great video John and agree with all you say. The ONLY reason I went for the X150 was because of the annoyance of having to get out of the X100 to fit the hood cover. If you drive it without putting on the cover, the hood lining gets badly stained. The X150’s hood is simply fantastic and works on the remote - with the Adamesh upgrade. I still miss my X100 though...
18:40 - R129 was introduced in 1989 and was able to completely hide its soft top and they also gave a hard top with it. That electrohidraulic top was a work of art maybe wasnt as good looking as the XK8/XKR soft top BUT when it was closed the cars siluette wasnt broken like it was the case with the XK8. And once again they might had similar model years but the R129 was actually more than 6-7years older technology then the XK8. I love both of them just like loving the 928 GTS and S4 and a 850csi they all have their own style and advantages and disadvatages. My personal go to would be a 4.2L supercharged XKR a coupe because where I live (in Hungary) we have plenty of sunshine but the roads are shitty so I would make use of the added stiffness of the coupe chassis ! Anyway great video, loved the content !
16:56 "It seals well". There's a gap up there between the two windows. My gripe with British convertibles up to 2000 has always been their soft tops (Brits love the rain). I'm still looking for an honest appraisal on that side. My MB SL R129 (produced a decade earlier, similar specs, but a blocky appearance) is still perfectly protected from the elements. I want to replace it for the more elegant XK8. But gholly, I need insulation.
Hi Yves. I can only talk for the two examples of the xk8 convertible that I have owned. but genuinely they seal properly and do not leak. I occasionally visit my local hand car was team who non contact was the cr with a jet wash while im in it. And nothing comes through. I know the window alignment can be adjusted (and therefore go out of adjustment) and there is a lot of bespoke rubber seals to age and potentially fail. But this has not happened to either of mine. The time code you linked shows the gap between the front and rear windows widening as the last centimetre of window travel is completed. This is quite normal and the 'Black gap' that you may perceive you are seeing is actually the surface of a seal being exposed from behind the glass. The only rain issue I have is that at drive throughs and toll booths in the rain with the window open. the front edge of the gutter can tend to drip straight through the open window and straight onto my thigh. Hope that helps. Obviously this is only based on a sample of two cars, but im sure that other subscribers would be happy to provide their experiences as well. I stand by my belief that this is the best auto soft top our side of a Bentley one. Finest regards John👍
My tuppence worth, John. 1. Looks. 2. The sound. 3. The traditional British elegant appointment of the interior, idiosyncratic yet clubby comfortable. 4. The SOUND--soft sonorous growl. %. The Jaguar breeding and the E-Type DNA. Should be enough reason to own one no? Take care, my dear friend and thanks for another lovely video.
Thats the way it should be Scott. If I did not have so many cars around me then the XK8 would be the car of choice for almost every journey. Im just a little too protective about it😔. I need to man up and get out there even more
@@JedSprague I bought one (1998 XK8 Coupe) with a perfect body with not even a sign of any rust at 55,000 miles (garage kept for 22 years). I paid $10,000. I put another $10,000 into it. I have a friend who is a Jag mechanic and he went thru the engine for me. New chains, tensioners, water pump, aluminum coolant tower, new plastic cross over and new gaskets. Tore out the stereo and dropped a new alpine system, all new speakers (including dash) with amp and subwoofer. All controls on the wheel work perfectly. New headliner. Rebuilt and remounted the rear window brake light (this is a bitch).Rebuilt Transmission. Installed a switch to keep the antenna down unless I want it up. Did all this when I got it and just had to have the front driver side Hub replaced a week ago. I know this sounds like a lot, but it is what gives me peace of mind driving it every day. If you can do a good bit of the mechanical stuff yourself it helps. I have a mechanically sound XK8 that I have no fear of driving every single day. I have spent less that a new car and get to drive a classic jag every day. Too me it is priceless.
Really appreciate these videos John, despite being 25 I am buying one of these when lockdown ends (but the facelift coupe) and you're the reason I am not going for another S type or a old style XJ (not tata XJ)
Andrew Doyle thanks for the kind words! To be honest, if you take to one side the thorny issue of insurance. the xk8 and XKR are the young mans jag of choice. That’s why I have got one🤣 Seriously though they are a delight to drive and being perceived as an all time classic more by the day. So get in while they are still very affordable.
Hi John I have been watching your excellent videos for 3 months. Your passion and knowledge for the XK8 is A1 . My no.1 would be that driving the XK8 is even better than thinking about it . Most cars don’t live up to your dreams.
Beautifully put Ian. That might be my quote of the day and is practically saleable as a Jaguar ad Strapline. 'JAGUAR....... MOST Cars don't live up to your dreams.'
I couldn't fault your 10 to 7 top reasons for owning an XK8. Mine is the 2003 4.2 Coupe, so no soft top, but I couldn't find one at the time and the price that I could afford. My two labradors love the rear seats and dare I say I use it to collect timber up to 2.4m in length because my Citroen van is too small! I am tending to agree with Steve Bass about the exhaust sound with the correct exhaust. I have an Adamesh stage 1 and 2 exhaust waiting to be fitted when/if this virus thing stops. Love the video, sitting on the edge of my seat awaiting the next 2/3/4? top 10 videos. Thank you so much John for brightening my morning.
Thanks Alan. The system you have ready to fit is essentially the system fitted to my red car shown in the 'Torque ' clips. You will love it! Also If you had been able to get a Convertible at the right price then obviously that makes it practically a pick up truck😁
My 02 is a convertible. My biggest worry is waiting for that inevitable green shower. Consequently I have only had my top up once in the 5 years I have owned it. As I live in a sunny environment, Palm Springs CA, I am not effected by much rain. During the summer it is kept in the garage, way too hot to drive with the top down. My favorite thing is it is "eye candy". Always getting compliments on the car.
Too much heat is not an issue we have🤣 Two XK8's over last 15 years and 'touch wood' no green rain yet. But it is a real issue , particularly in hotter climates.
Lets hope we can all go out for a drive purely for the fun of it before too long Graham. For now we will just have to enjoy some great jag conversations like these👍 Stay safe
Hi there John, Peter from Sweden, i have a xk8 like yours same year and color, do you know hos to shut of the automatic close to the doors, thanks John for all tips😀
HI PETER. I believe it is a dealer only tweak or at least someone with the full jaguar diagnostic computer and it can be switched off as an option. They may be a work around where a fuse gets pulled etc but I'm not aware of it. Anyone else know?
A very sexy looking car, this is from someone who owned an E Type many years ago. Alas part ex'd the E for an Alfa Romeo as I needed more space, they were still making the E's and the prices had not started to rocket. Wish many times I'd kept it, now have an S Type diesel.
Top 3...let’s think, #1 What we in the US would call “styling” the elegant James Bond understated competence look. Perfect art. #2. The light and sound show. The exterior and interior
Ops hadn’t finished. Perfect quality of light and dimming features with the right amount of time before turning off. #3. The smooth power at say 70mph going to 90mph without effort, torque I suppose but so quiet and smooth, smooth smooth power.
Wow, glad I found this comment. I didn’t know what to do with my 6 CD changer in the back. I made a 1-track CD with the James Bond intro soundtrack, cued on my audio CD hotkey. Wanted to hop onto the road with the extra vibe but the blank CDs I burned were faulty :(
Great pt1. When is pt2 out? As I said in the live chat, my top 3 (in no particular order); looks/design, torque curve and the feel good factor/buzz it gives just driving it.
Hi Jules. I like your top 3. 'The Buzz' it gives being a particularly good phrase. The next episode will be out before the end of the week I hope. I refuse to do another voice over by talking to the hinge of my lap top🤣. I hope a top quality desk microphone will be on my doorstep around Tuesday.
Hey John. Been watching your videos since I bought my xk8 alittle over a year ago. Very informative. Found my car on Craigslist July 3 2018. It had 115000 on it. 1997 xk8. White, has been repainted has a few flaws cd doesn't work, amp doesn't work has after market one. Took it to a Jaguar dealership here in Florida to have it checked out. Found out that the last owner had work done to it there which was comforting. Wanted to find out if anything was needed. Well wasn't pleased with their safety check and that's when I found you. I had an alignment done and bought new tires for it. Could not believe the price for the tires I found. 83 dollars each. Free delivery. Had Sears do the work and then took it to Tires plus which they did an excellent job for me and they said that the back wheels camber they could not fix need something special for it. The only thing I really don't like is where do you put your drink? Cup holder in bad place. Plastic and is broke. I only paid 2500 for this car. Always wanted a sports car. Corvette was my choice but I really love this car. Bought a 1999 which runs but leaks oil really bad. Remain seal. This was going to be my parts car but found out they changed things just a little bit on that year so somethings done line up. Electronics like the CD player and radio are differentthe 99 has the phone in it where the 97 doesn't so I bought a cassette that you put in the tape player so I can make it Bluetooth. That you suggested. I'll send a pic of the car. I do like the side lights on the car made sure all lights work. It's a great looking car. Thanks for your videos 👍. They have really helped me to understand the car. Need to get the stereo done to make it sound better. Thanks again Alan in Florida
Hi Alan Hi Darla Thanks for watching. Those tyre prices sound amazing. I would have to pay nearly £200 a corner in the UK. The cup holders are almost always broke!. Very poor design. Actually that is a gap in the market🤔
The XK8 comes with tires able to handle the 155mph spec sheet. Every time I change tires I wonder if I will ever take full advantage of these tires, and whether I should opt for something cheaper. Another question is, why do the rear tires wear out so fast? (Could it be 400 hp and a nut behind the wheel?)
I don't have one but Would in a Second if I could afford one & i SURE INTEND TO HAVE ONE SOMEDAY! Must be why I enjoy watching the English Gentleman"s Videos! (I know the reasons you sold the first one, but I SURE MISS the Color of that Car!) I hope to get one in the next couple of Years? as they will start that upward $$$ !
The only good things to come out of the current health crisis is car prices and fuel prices are depressed. Go take a look at the prices as soon as we come out the other side of this my Friend👍
My silver 1999 XK8 died a few years ago, the transmission went toes up for the second time and it had enough other problems that I had it towed away. For $10k I got a lot of fun out of it. So I said "what's next?" I was after an upgrade to Maserati or something of that ilk. I drove a few cars, studied more and found that I couldn't find anything that was acceptable. So I said, OK, if I can find a 2003 or newer, red, and supercharged I'll reconsider an XKR. LIterally hours later I found one about 500 miles away and made a deal. After viewing this video I can see why I couldn't find anything nicer than my first XK8, they don't seem to exist.
Thanks for the video , thanks also for your look of xk 8 ! I think, it is my opinion also. I love the xk8 . one of the best I have had, before ! My earlier Cars: OPEL 4/20 (1928) / BMW 321 (1940) / BMW 321 (1948) / EMW 340 (1952) / FIAT 1800 (1968) / FIAT 1500 ( 1970) / MATRA Bagheera ( 1984 ?) / VOLVO 240 / Volvo 740 and today VOLVO 965(S90) and Jaguar XK8 .
Wow Udo. I had to look up the Opel 4/20. I don't think I have ever seen one! And thats not something I say very often when it comes to European cars.! Maybe there are absolutely none in the UK?
John, it's a great car, but I'd disagree about the roof. Right when I bought my car the lines failed and cost me $3k. Repairs on my car (115k miles) have killed me, excluding the new engine I'm into it probably $10k for essential maintenance, and then another $5k on restoring the car, not all of which was necessary, but very few issues existed when I bought the car. I have put about 8k miles on the car, during which $5k of issues emerged (needed about $5k of work when I bought it). Maybe I got a rougher car, but a lot of the issues I've experienced seem quite common. I'm starting to wish I bought a later XKR, maybe even an XKR-S, luckily I think the XK100s are much better looking.
Sorry you have had such run of misfortune Jacob. In fairness I think the roof lines issues is something that is not experienced so much by us brits as it tends to be hotter climates where the lines deteriorate more and the internal pressure builds up. So although im very aware of the issue I have never seen that failure up close and personal. It does sometimes happen in the UK though. So I had better go touch wood stroke a lucky rabbit etc real quick! Thanks for sharing Jacob👍
Love this list John. I'm betting looks come in 1st place! Surprised you haven't included the XK150 as an alternative though? Prices are coming into range for the coupes at least and I expect them to reduce more over the next year or two. I'm temped by them now anyway if I can hang onto my 100 too.
The X100 is much better looking than the X150 in my opinion but they are still very beautiful and I should consider one as a daily really. Particularly, as a coupe would be possible with the daily whereas my toy car needs to be drop top. Hmmmm. Food for thought!
@@ToTheGarage I should of kept that thought to myself so....XK150 prices could rise now ;-) Joking aside I do love the look and feel of the 100 but anytime I consider buying another car i'm always drawn to the 150... natural progression maybe. Have you had a chance to drive one yet? I went to schedule a test drive last year but couldn't get close to the deal i wanted on the phone at the at the time so I cancelled it. Apparently they are an absolute pleasure to drive under 130 mph to quote a certain Mr. Clarkson.
🤣. No I have never driven an X150. I think I have driven an example every single Jag since the XJ6 right up to a very brief potter around in an Ftype but never the X150 or an Fpace Maybe I need to fix that
Question, could you take the back seats out, and then make the boot even bigger? Could you cut away any metal between seats and boot safely, with out weakening the car? Just thinking aloud as I have an XF and was considering the XK as a celebration , assuming I get through all this Corona thing, in a few months time.
Like the thinking Roy but unfortunately not. The Fuel tank is behind the steel bulkhead behind the seats and in front of the boot. The boot is nearly as good as the XF with the seats up though and in the Convertible, access is much better. Otherwise you could defect to the XK X150 Coupe and then you have a hatchback?
Hi Terry Yes 👍 I have driven an XKR and of course the extra power is intoxicating. BUT. I cant use that extra powers safely very often. It doesnt sound better to my ear. Supercharger whine is again exciting but cant be silenced or turned off so you can hear the exhaust better. Nothing beats the throttle response of a normally aspirated car. The early XKR's Mercedes box is almost! but not quite as sweet as the ZF 5 speed. Plus XK8's are cheaper to buy cheaper to insure and cheaper to maintain. I prefer the XK8 grill and the spoiler on the back of the XKR is visually inconsequential. Wheels are interchangable and suspension heights are adjustable. For me I do prefer the XKR bonnet. But not enough to put one on mt XK8. And Yes I would enjoy the extra power VERY occassionally. Please don't take any offence XKR owners. Its just my preference and its a preference on a knife edge.
@@ToTheGarage I understand what u say! I had a damlier xjr years ago and only once did I floor it! Very very very fast! I've had xj 3.2 (under powered) and xj8. 4L, very usable power! Avoid early versions of the 4.0 V8. The later versions had improved timing chain tensioners and eliminated the use of shoddy nicosil cylinder liners. I have an X308 XJR, which shares components with the XKR. The later engines are bullet proof, but the computers and electronics can be bit frustrating. An example would be my power driver’s seat; on occasion it will start moving on it’s own while I’m driving.
Hi Adam. I agree the later engines are a better prospect but you can change all of the relevant bits over (Pumps, thermostat housing, timing gear etc) except for the fully variable valve timing (and im prepared to be corrected on that😁)and achieve the same with a an early 4.0litre. The Nicosil issue was a big deal back in the day. But those engines that were not been effected have not been fed sulphur for the last 15 years so. I wouldn't worry about anything that still has good compression. Indeed as shared by another of our subscribers recently who was in charge of developing the performance of the original engine. The Nicosil contributes not only reduced weight but increases delivered torque through its lower internal friction. Im fully on board with the niggles the electronics can throw up though. The negative of a 20 year old car that was pushing the envelope when launched. Stay safe Adam and thanks for contributing👍
Another great video, thank you John. Please, could anybody here give me a rough idea of yearly maintenance costs for an XK8 model, and if a 5 years old child can fit in the backseat (coupe' version)? Thank you in advance. All my best wishes to you All
So hard to answer that one Mauro. I would say that servicing via an independent jaguar specialist would be around £300 / year at most if there are no specific faults. However timing chain and tensioner changes need doing after 80,000 and can be £1,000 to do. A set of tyres lasts differently dependant o use and conditions but will be £600 - £1000 a set when they do need replacing pdf using quality brands.
@@ToTheGarage thank you so much for taking the time to answer my (very generic) question. It's Indeed very useful to get an idea before I embark on such a journey. Many thanks and keep the good work. Stay safe. All my best. 👍🙏😎
Hi John, As you say, what’s not to like and now I’m tempted to look for a convertible to join my coupe on the drive, when life returns... And okay I admit that memories of leaking, drafty ragtops, not to mention the dreaded scuttle shake in the cars of my youth (a Spitfire and then an MGB) probably coloured my judgement! So what’s next on your list? I can’t wait!
My overriding memories of the MGB convertible were a) Scuttle Shake b) the time my mates battery escaped by falling through the floor and got dragged along by its cables😁. Happy days
Great and interesting video once again John. Have you changed the exhaust yet on your newest XK8. I assume you will do a video on that when you have done it? I miss driving mine so much at the moment because of the current situation. Top 3? With the correct exhaust, the sound, The classic interior and the comfort/ drivability Regards Steve
I actually prefer the fastback style of the coupe but hey john we're all different thank god. I think the convertable looks better with the roof up. I agree these are GREAT CARS, The mercedes sl R129 series wasnt that well built especially when compared with the earlier R107. Great videos john.
I can talk myself into thinking either the coupe or the convertible is better looking dependant on the day of the week but when it comes to having only one! I cant live without being able to drop the top and the hammer.😁
Yeah the XK8 is cheap now. But having owned and used both as everyday cars, the R129 500SL merc is the better car. The XK8 always felt kinda cheap in comparison. Neither was a sporting masterpiece, they are both luxury droptop cruisers, in that role for me, the R129 is the clear winner.
@@ToTheGarage Mind with the R129 I'd agree the hood is less effective, ie quite noisy at 70-80, does fold away very tidily under the hard cover at the back though. On longer journeys I used the panoramic hardtop with the full glass roof, then the car was super quiet. But to make that easy to swap on and off I needed a winch which also stored it up in the garage roof, by hand you needed two people. The XK8 is a "nice" car for sure, I just preferred the Merc for the solid feeling and build quality. My XK8 looked nice on top but underneath the factory sealant was peeling off and rust starting, that was at 8 years old.
Dont agree on the roof it looks like a cloth cap.Hardtop has the purer sleek shape .In my humble that is .But i agree on everything else.Top show John easy watching gentle pace.A bit james may if i may.Just finnished my list of winter jobs unerpaint n waxoil polybushes brake re furb ect ect.Now im locked down and cant go out.BUGGER.

having buying one 18 months ago . trying to restore her to great shape , i realised id bought a total rust bucket... wasted so much time and money.
then went and bought another one. (iv now got lots of spares). but now im driving one on the road. still gotta do loads to do to her but what a pleasure....love seeing your videos...keep it coming john....stay safe in this world we are living in ....andy
Thanks 'Andy 2 Jags'😁👍
Thanks for watching
Highest of regards
John👍👍👍😁

Finest regards
John👍
My tuppence worth, John. 1. Looks. 2. The sound. 3. The traditional British elegant appointment of the interior, idiosyncratic yet clubby comfortable. 4. The SOUND--soft sonorous growl. %. The Jaguar breeding and the E-Type DNA. Should be enough reason to own one no? Take care, my dear friend and thanks for another lovely video.
Thanks Asif. A Very good list 😉
I drive mine every single day. It is my only car and I love it.
Thats the way it should be Scott. If I did not have so many cars around me then the XK8 would be the car of choice for almost every journey. Im just a little too protective about it😔.
I need to man up and get out there even more
Thinking about picking one up. Do you have any issues with using it as a daily?
Same here! As my daily; first and only car :>

Andrew Doyle thanks for the kind words!
To be honest, if you take to one side the thorny issue of insurance. the xk8 and XKR are the young mans jag of choice.
That’s why I have got one🤣
Seriously though they are a delight to drive and being perceived as an all time classic more by the day.
You are answering all of my questions! Great review!
Glad I could help!

Too much heat is not an issue we have🤣
Two XK8's over last 15 years and 'touch wood' no green rain yet. But it is a real issue , particularly in hotter climates.
Greetings from Torquay! Great video!

Funnily enough I always think I AM James Bond when I drive mine. I never intend to grow up😉

Hi Alan Hi Darla
Thanks for watching.
And both of my cars presented me with a green shower, the first time more shocking than the second.
What about the transmissions and timing chain issues
Love this list John. I'm betting looks come in 1st place! Surprised you haven't included the XK150 as an alternative though? Prices are coming into range for the coupes at least and I expect them to reduce more over the next year or two. I'm temped by them now anyway if I can hang onto my 100 too.
Good point ref the XK150🤔 funny how I completely overlooked it! I think I forget that they have a bit of age to them now.
I think I have driven an example every single Jag since the XJ6 right up to a very brief potter around in an Ftype but never the X150 or an Fpace
Maybe I need to fix that
Question, could you take the back seats out, and then make the boot even bigger? Could you cut away any metal between seats and boot safely, with out weakening the car? Just thinking aloud as I have an XF and was considering the XK as a celebration , assuming I get through all this Corona thing, in a few months time.
Like the thinking Roy but unfortunately not. The Fuel tank is behind the steel bulkhead behind the seats and in front of the boot.
The boot is nearly as good as the XF with the seats up though and in the Convertible, access is much better.
Otherwise you could defect to the XK X150 Coupe and then you have a hatchback?
Thanks for the info John, cheers.
On public roads I'm sure the xk8 is fast enough! But, have you driven the xkr and still prefer the xk8? And why?
Hi Terry
Yes 👍
I have driven an XKR and of course the extra power is intoxicating.

Hi John, As you say, what’s not to like and now I’m tempted to look for a convertible to join my coupe on the drive, when life returns...

We're definitely on the same page, mate. I agree with all of your assertions. Mention should be made of the Jaguar green shower issue though. Get the XK8 Bible here drive.google.com/drive/folders/1C7AsBRQSN6sdGiLKKkDvuhxLj9fADVil
Thanks Gary. Yes the Green shower is a Rea issue for many,
@@ToTheGarage I caught my situation right when it first dripped from the overhead to the shifter surround and replaced the hoses with better ones before they burst.
Pronounce your "th" as "th" not "f" say coupe properly. Please. Simple standards of basic English, let's not drop them
