Appreciate the help . My headphones had a much smaller area to drill, but I managed it. I am really happy though. I hung on to these headphones for nearly two years now in the hopes that I could repair them when I had the time. So MANY times I nearly decided to throw them away, but I just hate wasting perfectly functional things.

Mine as well. They use low quality plastic, crack so easily. Aftet a year of use now its useless. Never ever i will buy any sony headphones and earphones again from sony.

i fixed mine within 1 min by using decent quality tape, did the other side too to prevent the swivel from moving again. dont even have this headphone for a year and it broke on new years thanks sony good design

Hurrayy!!! I managed to fix them with this needle thing. Spent almost an hour, never dealt with such small parts. You have to rotate the hot needle in the hole a bit, to make the hole bigger. Now I'm able to watch UA-cam videos again, while doing dishes and cooking, thank you guys for this awesome tips, you are my heroes!

You will find many Bose, Beats and others on ebay broken in the same way so it's not just a Sony cheap plastic issue. Also depends on how often you drop or sit on these which doesn't help AT ALL I would buy another broken pair( plenty on ebay around $15) and fix it in this way and you have yourself a decent working pair of 950 🖒

@@MaxZ_stuff if you want headphones with indescribable head band look at the Sol Republics. They are amazing. The head band is one piece of metal. They are really great as well. I should have gotten those but I had the 650's and love them. I broke those so I got the 950's. I just repaired both and did a comparison and man the 950's hit.

Is there a way to get the broken plastic piece of the hinge out? I want to try Gorilla glue on the broken piece. I just fixed another pair of headphones with Gorilla glue.. Thanks btw, the video is really helpful!
Yes you can reach the broken piece once you disassemble the casing .. Mind you there's not enough mass on the broken piece for it to catch glue strongly .. still you can give it a shot 🤞

If you have access to a soldering iron and know how to use it then yes go for it buy the right side. Otherwise only other way would be to drill for which of course you will need a drill. ✌🙂 good luck

Sadly it isn't about sony mdr-1a, my side hing broke off and what really makes my angry is how stupid the ball bearing is, because it was made out of plastic, why not just juse metal sony? Of course this breaks sooo easily, all what happened to it was falling from a chair

Instead of drilling take a 10 cm piece of electrical tape, tighten the cord and wrap it around the bottom where it would otherwise start to sag. Fixed and rotatable.
Its a shame for a headphone that still costs about 140 dollars to be that fragile. i was considering this headphone but after i saw so many people claiming that the hinges broke i gave up. there are many cheaper headphones that are way strong and dont break even if you force them intentionally.
That I would say wire damage 🤔 ... I would buy another broken pair off eBay plenty on there for around $20 delivered and perform this fix. Happy listening !

No it does not effect comfort in any way as the swivel function is only there to fold and store away the headset . Screw down for now so you can at least use them and in the future have part's replaced if you wish to do so. Happy listening!

Unfortunately that hinge or swivel section is poor design hence break easily, but luckily we have solutions! 👍🙂

Yes you can fix them !! Use the same screwdriver that you've used to undo lower screws ! 🤞

Put some pressure when drilling or try a new drill bit 🤔 and these holes must be inline !

Its a shame for a headphone that still costs about 140 dollars to be that fragile. i was considering this headphone but after i saw so many people claiming that the hinges broke i gave up. there are many cheaper headphones that are way strong and dont break even if you force them intentionally.
Hello I ended up doing as instructed and fixed the joint. However, the sound quality is terrible. How do I fix this?
Perhaps did I maybe loosen one of the wires to much? Is there a way to fix this? Would appreciate any support.
That I would say wire damage 🤔 ... I would buy another broken pair off eBay plenty on there for around $20 delivered and perform this fix. Happy listening !
@@jbr9719 thanks I noticed the sound quality is very bad when in bluetooth mode. However with the aux cord it's just how it used to be. Maybe I just wont use the bluetooth anymore.sucks since I loved that bass boost

Yes of course it will as long as you use appropriate screws .

Clean and solid!!! You could always undo to replace original hanger!

А остатки клея можно просто стереть ватой и спиртом)
Тем что после клея их несут уже мне на ремонт)

does this fix affect the comfort, because we sort of limit the movement of the hinge?
No it does not effect comfort in any way as the swivel function is only there to fold and store away the headset . Screw down for now so you can at least use them and in the future have part's replaced if you wish to do so. Happy listening!

@@jbr9719 is one screw enough on(idk what it's called but wherever we took the screws from) to prevent the capish thing from falling? I have a mulo thunderstruck 700 and it has only 4 screws (including the top and bottom broken part) unlike yours which has 6
